So my truck 2014 limited (push button start) original 68rfe, I disconnected the trans completely, grounded the yellow w/ dark blue tracer wire from the trans connector and the truck started up just fine. I shouldn’t have to change the RF hub correct??
Sounds like you are good! I believe the RF hub model I have is from 2015 - not sure of the differences in years to be honest. I would have thought they would be the same across…guess not!
@@thekanemadness1hey brother! After putting the manual recovery file in the truck it now won’t start. Looks like I’ll be having to run the wire like yours in the RFH. Thank you for putting the diagram on here!
Hey Man, got all the parts for a g56 swap, it’s just the RF hub wiring that I don’t get. So, Pin 88 in the ecm goes to pin 4 in the 68rfe connector ( yellow/ dark blue tracer ).. but then there is another wire that is yellow and dark blue in pin 2 of the old RF Hub.. do I just move that wire that is in pin 2 to pin 15? Or do I remove it from pin 2 and splice in a new wire from Pin 4 at the 68rfe to pin 15 in the new RF hub?
So pin 2 which is also yellow with blue strip is actually a wire that is routed through the cab and by the dash. It is one of the connector for the auto shift stalk. Because it was already routed through cab re-pinned at the RFH into pin 15. I then wired into it at the column and connected to that pin 4 at trans solenoid / pin 88 for ECM. Again ease of not routing more wiring all through cab. Seemed like an easy win! Good luck and hope that helps
@@thekanemadness1 Finish, wow what a difference. So on my 2012, my air temp sensor is located in the same spot as original, didnt need to extend. I also did the bung technique with the aluminum weld. Added a heater just like yours and works great. Thanks
Mine was out of a 2010 2wd dually. 07+ has taller gears, which is achieved with the input shaft having an extra gear tooth. Any year fits as long as it is diesel and not for hemi. Hemi has different ratio and bell housing. The new G56 has .74 final drive, the older is .79. Swapping input shaft is pretty non intrusive.
@Hunteratloppshop it’s 4x4. G56 is the same for 2wd and 4wd. The only thing different is the output seal. Remove 2wd flange. Remove seal. Install 4wd seal and slide in transfer case and she’ll be set up for 4wd.
I wish they did something too. I do like having it where I put it on the back side, more inconspicuous there. Personally I like the clean and declutter of it!
Any recommendations for someone looking to do this? I have an 18 big horn 2500 and I know the 68 is the weak point for me towing as much as I do with the truck lifted 6” on 35x15.5s. I did regear so I’m sure that’s helped me so far. Appreciate any input or maybe a general parts list to start collecting thanks
I was always worried with my 68 as I knew it was the soft spot. With the G56 I no longer worry about that. I also prefer manual so made the decision easy. Check wreckers and you can find these at a decent price. They can pull a premium but sometimes you can find the hidden gems. I did a lot of reading and research prior to swapping. Lots of parts shopping for the interior bits and odds and ends. But I haven’t regretted it !
Hey man where yah from I heard yah say yah delt with cory so yah gotta be close to me I got some questions how yah made it work cause I’m gonna swap mine
I have already finished doing everything it says in the video, I have a problem and the truck is running without power, it starts but it is slow... Something is wrong with it but I can't identify what it is... I am looking at the option of changing the ECU from automatic to manual, suddenly this is how I solve the error maybe.. I need help
I'd be interested to know how much this little coil actually helps. A cold start comparison on two different cold days of a similar temp would be interesting, one with and one without the coil. Thanks for the vid.
For sure it helps. The factory heater does do a better job of pre- heat. But this works ok. Where I am from in winter, cold climates I don’t just rely on the pre heat. I run a webasto coolant heater to help eliminate those cold starts. But for peace of mind with factory grid heater, the coil gives that. Cheers!
I’d have to hook up and recheck. I changed pretty much anything regarding automatic to manual for parameters. I made a back up first so I had all the original parameter settings saved.
@@thekanemadness1 I only asked cause you drilled in your intake for the coil heater. I have an 18 also and my banks was already tapped. My friend has a 14 and banks don’t make it with the coil heater tap. So I sent him your video to show what you did. Thanks again.
That air temperature sensor extender you mentioned, even though you just lengthened your factory wiring you happen to know a part number for the extender or no?
How did it fair over our Alberta winter? Any issues with the cold. I have the banks gird heater delete, but havent installed it yet. I have the 3.5 inch intake horn, your video has given me an idea where to mount that coil heater. I wasn't too confident on drilling out the top hole on the banks intake horn.
It doesn’t produce like the stock grid heater by any means. It does ok though. My truck is usually always pre-heated too with a Webasto. But I have had a few real Canadian cold starts and it did ok. I liked keeping the coil out of sight, I like it better in the back side then on top.
Hey Man, great vid. Considering a g56 swap for my 2021 5th gen. Has push button and sensors/backup camera with the digital cluster and 12 inch screen. Do you think I would need the RFH out of the 2015 G56 push button truck? Would appreciate your help
The intake for emissions intact is already set up to take a coil heater M22x1.5, it is also machined around the flanged for it. The non-emission monster ram like mine is not and is smaller. Diameter of heater same size
Is there anyway i can get the info for the guy you talked to in the states? Im having issues with my abs and i have no idea what to do about it and cant figure it out. i figure since you didnt have that issue you wont know to much as to why. I have a 2015 ram 2500 limited. And im also having an issue with the push to start i bought the part that you showed the part number for but my auto had a green plug as well and im not sure what thats for and just want to make sure im not losing anything important thank you in advance
I did a grid heater delete 2 yrs ago but I need a heater plug now but can’t remember what wire went to heater please make a video to help a clueless shade tree mechanic
