Mikael Frödin created the Frödinflies brand in Sweden back in 1985. Together with his son Jakob, he launched the new Frödinflies company in 2016 - an independent platform for fly fishing innovation, drawing on a lifetime of experience gained on the river.
Hej Mikael!
Wish you would handle and respect the fish better. Especially as they are all going back. Where is the Landing net? Shouldn’t allow them to thrash against the rocks where they can damage themselves and why are you holding them by the tail only? Please try to be a better sportsman
Nice ties ! 👍 It seems your Salar hooks are no longer available… What brand/size (single, double, triple?) would you recommend for your 3cm Micro Series Tube flies ? Thanks
Recently been trying this on my local river with a hitch tube and watching how it moves. With varying currents it becomes more difficult. The fly swings too quickly in the initial stages, where I am trying to target an outside stream. Perhaps a combination of both techniques in a single drift would be better?
Wow, that Nutria fibre looks very interesting. Beautiful tie, as always. Will you be putting together a Nutria pack for tying? Congratulations on your 50th fly tying video, Mikael !! I have been watching every month since the mighty Kraken night fly, and haven't looked back. Thank you very much for all the great inspiration and techniques and I look forward to the next 50 patterns! Gratulerer!! Tack så mycket.
Another great video from Frödinflies! Have you considered adding a short clip that shows how the flies swim in the current? Would be a perfect addition to your videos! (Flymen's The Fly Tester is a good one that has been used in other videos i've seen)
The actual name of the hitch is the “Portland Hitch” it was created by the local guides of Portland Creek Newfoundland Canada! Visiting Fisherman from all over the world would come to Portland Creek River to fish the abundance of XLarge Atlantic salmon. They would be using salmon flies with leather loops. If the loop broke, they would toss the flies away and the local guides, who did not have a lot of money or access to flies/materials as that area was extremely isolated, would pick them up and reuse them by half hitching them to their line! I have been fishing Portland creek for over 30 years and met some of the old timers who were the guides back then and they are always happy to tell the stories of how the hitch was born!
@@frodinflies I agree. Just wondering why fish ladders were not put in when the dam was built though. Unlike here in BC Canada the dam shown seems pretty low and a ladder would be sensible. With such a precious resource it would seem obvious to at least construct a ladder.
Awsome video danne and frödin. Ljungan is truly an awsome river and i really hope that it will be one of the best rivers for salmon one day again. Keep up the good work with fighting the hatchery danne/ Zion
I really enjoy the interpretation of the classic fly into the modern tube fly and the new materials. Very interesting & informative. Thank you for sharing!
well I striped my first Durham Ranger hair wing back in the early eighties and wrote an article on it... Davie is an excellent tier and great guy I have not seen how and When he did it ... but the Pattern is for sure way older than both of us!
It is so sad to se how the salmon declines in number, i hope it can turn around very soon. Seatrout on the other hand seems to do better, atleast where i live. 2023 i had only 3 sessions with no fish, (short sessions), and alot of small wild fish on the costline. Most of the seatrout i got was wild, So i hope 2024 is gonna be even better. Keep fighting for the wild salmon, you make a difference, i always try to get people to watch ' once salmon always salmon'. Those who have seen it dont buy farmed salmon anymore. You sir are the Lorax of the wild salmon! 💪
Again a pleasure to watch plus an inspiration of the own flytying! Thank you so much for that. On the otherside, it‘s a bit nerve wracking to get inspired by Michael‘s tying ideas, but the mentioned products Flashwing Flash and the stiff Antron underlayer is not ready available to buy, except in the packs and in colors II do not looking for. Why do you show tying receipts short before Salmon Season start without having the materials ready available, so we can buy and use it? Tight-lines, Steve
Hi Steve, well maybe i shouldn't but in a way its like letting you guys be part of the development of new tying stuff. Sure it would be more commercial to let out things when the film appears but I think more fun to share the process how things actually come up. I can tell you that the SSS Flash Wing Flash is in boxes on the way to us and be out in a news letter shortly!
Hi Mick, What a fantastic looking place. But there is no main ingredient, reading the comments you have more hope than me. You have fished the best places in the world. Now Russia has gone there is very little left. If the Norway Government can sit and watch this happen they all need to be sacked with somebody that can help this fantastic fish. If Norway can't support there rivers and help the salmon its over. God help us. Kind regards Alan Robinson
