I run a 6 position tuner on my ‘99. 50hp, better transmission control. Without that, these trucks are so slow. I was going down a straightaway with my tuner off the other day and spotted a patrolman hidden and clocking people. I quickly checked my speed and I was going 42 in a 50. It is a dually, auto transmission. I used to daily it, but the main purpose is pulling my camper. I would not trade it for anything.
The value of a 7.3 is insane. I have two with a combined 900,000 miles. They run great and produce revenue daily. Paid for and insurance/taxes are cheap.
I need my 4r100 rebuilt and I wish I would have got a zf6 truck but my wife occasionally will drive it with the camper attached so that was not an option for her. I need a new steering box and front leafs, but she otherwise runs great with 220k on it.
I do like the old 7.3 engine, I’ve got 433,000 on mine and it still keeps going. I have noticed even our local municipality still has a few 7.3 superdutys in their fleet. RiffRaff Diesel has some good parts and some upgrades for these 7.3’s.
@@matts_.4494 Mid to upper teens. The best I've gotten with it is 21mpg. The key is to keep the rpms under 2k. The supercab has 3:73 ratio with the zf6. Running a 285/75/16 tire I'm right around 2k rpm at 70. If I run 65mph or less I see the best mileage
I've been driving my old 7.tree f2shity for 20 years now..all original no rust Michigan truck works construction and plowed every winter of its life...500 thousand miles still stroking and purrs like a kitten 😸...INTERNATIONAL 13 letter shitspreader best diesel ever made
Found a 91 250 7.3 idi for 500$ in june this year, Truck definitely is a rust belt survivor as the underside of the cab is rotting out and some bits under the radiator are gone, but the engine seems like it should run once again with not a whole lot of work, and I'll probably have someone help me patch the rot and try to daily it as it's still able to be saved.
I got a 97 f250 a few months back. Finally got it registered and working on fixing all of the worn out stuff and re doing the poor quality work done by previous owners. Runs great at 380k miles. Everywhere I look it has had stuff replaced. Most recently looks like a new fuel pump in the valley. Maybe the bowl. Leaks a bit of oil from basically e erywhere but not nearly as bad as the steady drip from my r50 pathfinder it's going to replace soon. Gotta get my steering Freeplay figured out before I really start driving it more.
Not sure if I would want a 6.7 for hauling offgrid, it'd be more expensive and harder to work on. Seems impossible to find a 4x4 manual dually, especially supercab. Think I'd do oem navistar stage 1 injectors, 6 position tuners.
While you were talking I looked searched 7.3 for sale. There is a 1999 169K mile school bus for sale...$5,500. Meanwhile every truck with the 7.3 is two or three times as much. Interesting. tHanks for the video
@@abandonedxship I missed out on a 2000 model year bus...for two grand yesterday. Had the diesel. 138k Maybe not for groceries....but I work a lot. Have a great weekend
@@abandonedxship I reaaaally wanted a crew cab OBS, but theyre a fuckin unicorn for a reasonable price. Bought a 96 f350 dually extended cab with 370k miles for a pretty good zero rust deal. Loving it for the last year
I’ve had 4 7.3 power stroke trucks. Started with a 97 f350 crew cab dually Auto 2wd, 2000 f250 2wd 6spd, 1999 crew cab f250 2wd auto with flatbed and dually conversion the flatbed got wrecked and I took the motor out and put it in a e99 f350 extended cab auto 4x4 dually. The only truck I truly miss is the 97 dually as it had the lowest miles, 87k. It drove great ran great had a few small issues from sitting but everything except the rear passenger window worked. I now own a 94 7.3 IDI that was factory turbo but I put a non turbo engine in since the turbo motor was bad, left the turbo off because I really like the easy access and I live in Louisiana so it’s all flat. End goal is to probably power stroke swap it and convert to 5 speed 4x4. Right now it’s an auto 2wd dually.
I can see how a business could be more profitable in 2024 with a fleet of older reliable trucks than what is currently on the market. Between the higher purchase price to higher maintenance and repairs. You can buy a decent 7.3 truck for the cost of an emissions or fuel system repair.
And you didn’t even factor in the downtime. I know guys who have made 12 payments on rigs that have been in the shop over 7 months total. Most stealerships don’t hand you keys to a 4WD diesel dually when your brand new one is in the shop. They give you a Hyundai Dingleberry or something similar if they even give you anything at all.
My business netted significantly less when I bought a brand new 6.7. Picked up a good condition 7.3 for the price of one truck payment. I’ll delete the 6.7 at exactly 100,000.0 miles
@@yaseenshuja9980 you bought a $1000 truck? Im sure it was a real beauty for $1000.....give your head a shake if you think a $1000 truck is cheaper to run then a brand new 6.7. I've had 2 6.7s and a 99 7.3....the 6.7's are super reliable if you maintain them. The 7.3 went through glow plugs but was pretty reliable....super rough ride and loud as fuck....
I also only run 7.3L diesels 2-00’ f250s one auto ,one zf6 , one 02 7.3 E450 ambulance, and about to get on other F450 00’ flatbed . Absolutely love these 7.3s and powerstrokes!
Would love to find a manual think. I'm gonna try and find a 6.7 but I'm too broke to be that picky. Where you finding these trucks? Maybe I'll seek out a 7.3 instead.
@@JustAverageJeff i bought the dually off auto trader believe it or not. Quite a few low mileage 7.3s out there yet. The other ones are off facebook market place and word of mouth
We have 3 7.3’s for our work trucks. They’re the best work trucks made. They’re all stock, they are all reliable. Although 1 2003 6.0 in the fleet has had less problems than the 7.3’s by some miracle but that’s another story lmao
@@akraix182 It's just odd how there were a few random 6.0s that were pretty good. I've known guys that had nothing but problems with them, I've also known guys that have had really good luck with them. Like anything tho, having a good maintenance schedule is key!
7.3 Ford and 12v Cummins engine wise are both hard to beat imo (own one 07 F350 that I have Cummins swapped). And for people saying they are slow ... since when is a diesel that you haul with a race car ??? Good video I LOVE 7.3s and awesome collection
Best wheel to upgrade is the kc balanced assembly,it spool very fast and sound awesome with way fast spooling. Upgrade to a billet wastgate and tighten the rod in to hold boost longer. You won’t regret it.
They are a staple of the construction open house@@BuckingHorse-Bull . I'll be sure to load a plate full for you next time. Grab some sodas out of the coolers and fine a spot in the shade. It is almost time for the door prize raffles. (Don't forget to fold your entry form like a paper airplane...that makes it easier to pick up )
Thanks for the informative video. Good looking truck. I'm going to be installing the same kit on my 2000 F350. What size tires are you running? Thanks, John
