Hi, I'm Stripey Hat Guy and I want to share with you my experiences exploring bonnie Scotland. I am originally from Germany and have a passion for the mountains, wild camping and photography.
I have the same rab windshirt and it s one of my fav pieces. Use it even in the rain, unless it s pouring down. May i ask why you went for duomid and not for solomid xl?
This is nice to see and inspirstional. Ive been unwell for 4 years and cant go out but i really miss this sort of stuff and cannot wait to get back out!
Hi Allan, there is a small lay-by roughly on the opposite of the ‘gated’ curved ridge car parking. Alternatively you can just park at Altnafeath (?), the main car park at the Bokkil and walk the WHW a few hundred meters back direction King House. Hope it helps ATB Stripey
Stripey what are your ultimate tips for someone taking on their first solo trip away for a few days. I am in good shape and not phased but much understand things can be unpredictable. Any hidden tips you can share? Much obliged. 🎉
Hi Ross, Not many hidden secrets tbh. I think that the most important is that you listen to your guts. Furthermore I always let my partner know my initial plan and when she can expect me roughly back. I am sure you will love it 👍 ATB Stripey
@StripeyHatGuy my trip is not til fall of 2025. I am planning two weeks to visit/hike northern Scotland Highlands so still deciding what I can hike for a day hike or overnighters. I will then return again another time to do the west highland way and hike in the outer Hebrides and Skye. So your videos are so helpful to see what types of hikes, views, terrain, conditions etc. I will expect.
@@nataliedepto-vesey9504 oh wow sounds absolutely amazing. Haven’t been to the northern highlands a lot yet, but done quite a bit on the Outer Hebrides (before RU-vid) and loved it! I mean my views might be a bit biased but it is just everywhere in Scotland outstanding 😎
Hi Stripey 👋. Well you and Robert, who always is behind you 😂, certainly looked high and low for a good pitch, it just wasn’t to be hey. Still, was a good hike with lovely views, and there is always next time. ATB Serk
The ship that docked there stopped coming in and the railway passed them by, I think the last people left in 1960 from the next bay over where the school was, further over from that next to storage cave, that where the last people lived.
How to go camping without going camping 😂 . Have you ever thought of bringing a hammock instead of a tent ? Now start planting some trees 😁 . I notice both of you had gloves , was it that cold ? At least no midges to cope with , thats the positive side ! Thanks for the video
Difficult to answer as it depends how much space you want to the ground! The poles I use for the duo mid are the BD trail which extend up to 1.40m. after using the duomid for a good year I would recommend poles which can extend to 1.45m or longer A-Frame connectors (easy and cheap to make by yourself!)
Thanks a lot James! Oh good to hear, Robert and me were close to head down to the Meanach Bothy as well…glad that we didn’t when it was so busy 😉 - said this it is for sure one of the best bothies imho so completely understandable. Hope you had a good stay at the Bothy nonetheless 👍 ATB Stripey
Yeah I love Meanach - it was the first one I had ever stayed at last year (but that time we didn't see anyone for 2 days after leaving Kinlochleven). I actually found this channel when researching the bothy and have been using it as a tool to see which ones look good to go to next (me and the boys are going to do a round trip from Glenfinnan to Glenpean, Oban, A'Chuil & Corryhully bothies later this year, largely because of the videos you've made). Thanks for the great content!
