I have a 2019 3.5 Eco Boost with 85K miles. I have the oil changed every 5K without fail. I use a full synthetic oil from Ford. The motor runs as quiet as a church mouse and doesn't use any oil between changes. I'm almost 70 and its been my experience that keeping oil and all other fluids changed on a regular basis.....just about any drive train will last for as long as you want it to.
My Walmart didn't have Super Tech oil when needed an oil change. Only thing in weight I needed was 6 qt. box Havoline. Never know whats going to be on shelf when need something these days.
On the elbow you attach to the camp ground dump hole, remove the orange contoured piece and it will thread into the hole, then attach the elbow back on. No need for rocks or risk it popping off and getting nastiness everywhere!
Ha... I have professional auto body workers in my family. The standard is very high. And yes, it needs a respray. 100%. Touch up paint is just that. Touch up paint.
I have seen enough videos on modern trucks to know when my 2003 needs a new motor soon that is the route I am going. I was quoted 6 grand for a new engine including all the outer parts like ignition coils, alternator, starter, and water pump all new. Body and interior still in good condition and that is a lot cheaper than a new one. Even with a new tranny its way cheaper than a new one and they last easy 20 years.
Incorrect sir, Incorrect. It's well within its design tolerances and has zero problem moving it all over the country. I've put thousands of miles towing with it since this video. No problems.
Hey there, I wish I had your email so I could ask my question for your opinions. Coming home from last camping trip I got a message my gross weight could be over my limit on the truck screen? Going had every thing same loaded in camper minus black tank that had 3/4 (we had company stay in it during daughter’s wedding) I hav 6900 dry weight and golf cart not sure it’s weight but am told most golf carts are 800lb so I guess what are you thought you pull 9,000? Soon be headed north to Alabama
@@walterkurutz307 hi, are you hauling a golf cart in the truck bed and hauling a the travel trailer? If so... You are likely over your rear axle rating by a significant amount. A golf cart, rigged our with four seats can weigh 1,000 lbs easy. A 6,900 lb travel trailer will be 8,000 ish loaded for camping. Your tongue weight should be around 1,000-1,200 lbs. My camper is close to 1250 lbs on the tongue weight and I use a 1400 lb weight distribution hitch. Most people have 300-500 lbs of people and stuff in the cab of the truck. Basically the payload math doesn't work for your truck with a golf cart. Golf Cart- 1,000 lbs Tongue Weight- 1,000 lbs People and gear in cab- 500 lbs That's 2,500 lbs or about 600 lbs over the gross payload of the truck. Here is where it gets scary... The rear axle rating is there to tell you how much weight the rear axle can carry... With a golf cart that weight is directly over the rear axle. Basically, your computer is telling you that you either need to do something else with the golf cart (put it on a trailer and have the darling wife tow it behind her SUV) OR you need to downsize the cart to a Cricket style, or you need to step up to a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. I don't have any problem going to the limits of a trucks rating. They can do it and do it well, but to grossly exceed them is not something I recommend. I would take your rig to a Cat scale and get the facts of your weight as your set up is now. Those numbers will tell you all you need to know to move forward. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll do my best to answer them.
@@jeremsgarage I actually have toy hauler (part reason is I needed for golf cart) odd thing was did not get that warning on way to camping only got warning coming home. When I traded my 2500 for 2.7 , my camper was not a toy hauler , same wait and we would load golf cart in bed of truck, but now I have the toy hauler. I was told golf cart was 800 lb but won’t argue 1,000lb 🤔 hmm weird it went camping no warning, home with warning and as I said we had half to 3/4 full black tank on the way camping, back home empty? One more thought, question, would putting golf cart over wheels of camper be a better idea or more better at rear of hauler? I really don’t want to consider purchasing a 2500 this truck we have is almost paid off. I told my wife I live a life of regret trading off 2500 so we could get the 2.7. My wife could not drive 2500 cause no seat adjustment and we wanted to down size vehicle #. She absolutely loves her new truck as I do.
@@walterkurutz307 okay! Whew. That makes me feel better. Here is what I would do. Before you spend a ton of money, invest in a Tongue Weight scale. I use a Sherline scale personally but you can make one with an analog bathroom scale and some wood. I used the bathroom scale version for years and years just fine. I may make another one for the channels sake. What I would do is experiment. Load the trailer as you do now and weigh it. If you are over 1300 lbs or so, adjust your trailer load to bring the tongue weight down. Here is a GREAT write up on how to do this. hildstrom.com/projects/2011/07/tonguescale/index.html
@@jeremsgarage thanks man, what a pleasure meeting you on you tube, no pressure but you was the one that sold me on the 2.7, watch your videos and others and thought to myself, “you can do this” I bought the micro boost a lot higher than my other camper which was bigger and it was first camp I pulled with my 2.7 storage to home pulled like a champ. Notice you are a brother in Christ PTL. Any way check on all you got here, I’m running out of time August 1st headed north first to Crystal river for two weeks in camper then mid august to Lincoln Alabama till November 1 then headed to South Carolina with friends and we are not sure how long we will stay. House and apartment rented august 1 (wife idea). Take care let you know what I do and accomplish, thanks Again.
@@brandonwebb2820 it's not as good as a V8, but it does have engine braking. Thing is, you have to let it rev pretty high to be useful. I did a lot of engine braking in this video down Cagle Mountain , TN. Nothing in this video was made up and I was towing my 9,000 lb trailer. I know you have issues with yours. I have no idea what's wrong because my experience is that this 2.7l pulls harder than my old F350 with a V10, and my trailer is heavier now than what I had with that truck. Do you have a lift and oversized tires?
FWIW every filter I've seen with plastic over the end has been Chinese. I trust the American made ACDelco or even a Champ/Luberfiner over anything made in China, plus it puts us out of a job.
Real deal kilker is the auto start air cond issue.. i live in Fairbanks and need to remote start in the winter with the intention of warming up the truck both inside and the engine....just lost a sale GM
Just came across this video. What are you doing with regards to a trailer brake controller? I’m amazed that they don’t offer one from the factory, and on the newer style interior there isn’t even really any good place to put an aftermarket one.
The microgard select is a great filter. I think your observations are correct especially when wix has had numerous ownership challenges lately. The microgard is built like a tank. Great filter
5 years 100,000 miles warranty on engine an transmission now think it was 60,000 miles before .anyway I just picked up the 2024 Chevy Silverado custom with 2.7 pulls 8000 pound travel trailer real nice
I heard that drilled and slotted rotors help dissipate the heat as well as get the film that builds up between the rotor and the pad out quicker and the brakes usually run cooler
New tire technology means that you have the equivalent of a 10 ply tire even if there aren’t 10 ply’s. Good looking tires. I’m going to replace my 20 inch wheels with 18 inch to save on weight and install E rated all terrains. I like you tow a travel trailer.
It would be interesting to know if you have any carbon buildup on the intake valves due to the lack of port injection. I just picked up a Sierra with the high output 2.7 Turbo. I’m hoping that this engine has a long trouble free life.
The newer E core filters actually flow better than the previous metal core design. I never go past 5K on my turbo engine so I would use any of these filters and still sleep good at night. I think you run in to problems with turbocharged engines with extended drain intervals more than anything else.
Nothing wrong with RP oil. I'm just glad and surprised that GM doesn't use 0W20 in the 2.7 like they do the 5.3/6.2. 0W20 is really too thin IMHO. Both my 3.5 Ecoboost and 5.0 Coyote F150's take 5W30 which seems to be the best all around weight for fuel economy and engine durability. Personally my favorite is Pennzoil Ultra Platinum which you can catch on sale on Amazon from time to time. I just bought six 5 qt. jugs of it for $20 a jug on sale a couple weeks ago.
I had really good luck with a WIX oil filter on my old 4.8l Silverado for many years. My buddy is a mechanic and he cut open several brands at the time and we discovered the WIX had the most filtering capacity. Don't know if that is still the case but they used to be very solid. I have been looking at the 2.7 l trucks recently thinking that might be my next purchase. I like that the AFM on these appears to be a better design than the 8 cylinders with it. Makes me miss the old vortec motors, simplicity and reliability. Thanks for the video.
Hey Jeremy , good video bud , hey first and foremost I would like to see you install that transmission oil dip stick , I didn’t think that was possible since I have the same truck as u do except mine is 4x4 but it’s the same 8 speed transmission and when I bought it I was told there was no dipstick for the transmission which I thought was not cool on gm’s part , to me checking fluid levels is very important specially expensive components like engines and transmissions, any way yea bro I would like to see if this is possible to install, I would definitely do that to mine too , thanks brother!!
If the engine does blow at a 100,000 miles, heck it's a 4cyl! It's much cheaper to replace than a V8! I own a Ford Expedition 5.4 (2valve) and a 4 Runner w/4.7 V8, both are gas guzzlers but super durable pigs! No I don't want the new stuff! Ford Expedition now has a 3.5 V6 turbo and Toyota 4Runner has a turbo 4cyl! Won't buy them!
I hated the alenza Bridgestone tires that these trucks are equipped with from the dealership, very few I’ve seen that are equipped with Goodyears, so when it came to buy new tires I bought the pirrelli at+ tires and kept the oem 20’ wheels The big reason why I went with such tires even tho I’m not doing hard work with my 2.7 gmc I hated the fact that the reg tires kept getting nails and bolts i literally patch all 4 tires in the 1st year I had the truck So spending the extra $1400 for the pirrelli tires was best as I have not had issues with nails anymore it’s a more beefier tread and ride quality is great
@@Roberto-gp3yx thank you for the feedback! I had to patch one of my Bridgestones. I am really liking these new tires! I've got about 1,000 miles on them and, similar to your Pirrelli experience, they are just a lot tougher tire and the ride is very nice for an AT. I appreciate you watching and taking time to comment!
I can't believe all of the closed minded people on this vid. I was extremely sceptical on the 2.7 when I first looked at the truck, but when I drove it it all went away. This will tow way better than my last GMC with a 6.2, it was always screaming and the 2.7 just purs down low. Haters gonna hate, and that's OK. I am very happy with my choice.
My father purchased a 2024 Colorado 4x4 with the 2.7L and it didn’t make it to 5k miles before the engine blew up. Seriously these engines and trucks are a piece of garbage.
@@justinleehawkins6143 sorry about that. Nobody bats 1,000. The engines are in their 6th model year and do not show any signs of systemic failures. There have been a few failures for sure but GM has taken care of them. I'm willing to bet that at 5k miles they took care of your Dad's truck too. I do need to point out that the Colorado and the Silverado are not the same truck and do serve a different purpose. If your Dad is willing to talk about what happened I would love to connect and report on it. He can reach me at jeremsgarage@gmail.com. of course you are welcome to come talk as well. We will set up a video call and record it or go live and talk about it. A lot of people are looking for 2.7l information and would be very curious about his engine failure. I've talked to many service departments who in 5 years have never replaced a single 2.7l... that speaks volumes.
