I am Richard, 58 years old, 43 years of gaming, programming and partly music making in the pocket. My wish is to share my music production learning adventures through this channel in hopes of teaching and inspiring you as well.
See that is the problem, a proper trance banger requires more tracks and solid sound design. I don't think the hybrid setup with just OXI One will take me there, but the little machine definitely helps me create small ideas so who knows where it takes me. Always happy to hear from you.
I was just fooling around with little sequences and fun patches on the soft synths, with no genre or goal in mind. I am not making bangers right now, but every bit of music helps.
@@rayderrichhahahahahahahahaha. I like that thought 😂😂😂 But honestly, I’m considering the Digitakt 2 as a replacement, but I’m not sure yet and have no budget, so it will take some time. This YT thing is not paying enough to be spending so much
@@tricks-and-tips I have been keeping an eye on Elektron boxes for about 2 years as well, but honestly none of them will help me get into good mental shape again, so first things first. But the Digitakt II seems like a good fit for what you do!
1. Enjoyed the jam. 2. Was able to follow along with what was being done. 3. You taught and provided me with inspiration without saying any words. 4. Double thumbs up indeed.
this is so lovely, Rich 🙂 missing you... so sorry to hear you struggling with pain and depression 😞 you did very well to knock this out, Rich I can't do anything at all when I'm at a low ebb best wishes, andy
Well I only sequenced a few notes and made a few simple patches to get some action going, this is a far cry from what I have done before. Thanks Andy, I know you mean the words you say.
@@rayderrich it is always hard to know what to say to be honest, and sometimes I opt to say nothing at all, but I felt I had to say something here, Rich
Thank a lot. Music can make me happy but also deeply sad. The outcome can not be predicted. I just hope to jam more and enjoy the lush notes in my head.
I struggle with depression as well and while music does help me, of late the depression has kept me from even wanting to do music. All I can say is keep at it Rich, as I try to do and you will come through it.
It took my many weeks to finally power on the hardware and launch the software and program a simple sequence. That is how much I drifted off. I almost sold everything (again), I hope the joy will return just in time. Hold on strong Eric!
for me it really did. Whatever is going on, I hope youll get through... Also, at this point youve got so much more hardware than I do xD And also more advanced ones! does the sound come from this little box alone? or is that only the sequencer? Take care rich. Life is good, but not always easy. Create your art!
I am losing faith in my life, and even music making is very tough to start these days. I will try to make more little tunes to feel it again. The box was used to create 4 simple sequences which are being sent into Ableton Live running 4 simple wavetable synth patches on 4 MIDI tracks. A few effects were added on the master track.
Welcome back -- you have been missed, Rich. And welcome back to your OXI One as well. I find making music to be the escape I so often need these days. It helps my psyche and my body. I hope coming back to making music helps you to find some relief as well.
Thanks a bunch, Geren. Music has been so important throughout my life, yet on the saddest days I can not bring myself to even start a new sequence. Perhaps forcing myself into these small jams will make me feel it again.
@@rayderrich I have that happen as well. Usually, when it does, I'll muck about with some sound design. Or go listen to some kind of music I don't usually listen to.
The younger me would be consumed with what did you use for the sounds. I’ve learned today to be quiet and enjoy the beautiful sounds you chose to enlighten me with. For that, thank you. ❤️
A happier me would have made a follow up video to explain what is going on after the notes leave the OXI One. For now you will have to trust me when I say that Ableton Live with simple patches made in seconds did the job.
And it was as easy as cycling a few kilometers, holding the phone for a few minutes, dropping some modules in VCV Rack and putting it together in video editing. Nothing was planned, I just felt like it. Thank you, Anna.
The melody sound is a simple oscillator in VCV Rack but I added some effects which transformed the sound into Jarre-style. Happy accidents were had. Thanks Adam.
Fascinating sounds that you've created here, dear Richard! It's nice to know about these other options in music production. Thanks for the information and relaxing track! I just signed up for you (403)! I play and write music for the keyboard, so I hope you'll swing by. Kind regards, Michelle :-)
Sounds rich! (Yeah, sorry that’s the first word that popped into my mind 😊). Really digging this smooth flow and the warm sounding of these patches. Nice one man.
The story behind those 8 quick patches? I spent too much energy going through thousands of presets, and remembered I know how to make a few myself. Easier sounds = faster chaos = energy saved.
