Hi, I have two story houses and there is a gap between bricks expansion joint. Like 1/4 inches from roof to middle and then 1/6 and then just line. It’s only on one side of the house. No Z shape or any other cracks, any recommendations. TIA

40 year old cinder block exterior is experiencing flaking. Small to large portions falling off on west, north and east side of home. Southern exposed block is fine. Basement is dry with internal walls looking normal. What should we do?

Although older homes may be more likely to have foundation walls showing signs of distress, newer foundations are certainly not immune. Certain soils are very expansive when they get wet. If the wrong soil material is placed against a new foundation wall, problems can show themselves quickly. If you have concerns about your home’s foundation, you can find a local FSI dealer at www.foundationsupportworks.com/dealers.html for a free, no-obligation assessment. Thanks for watching!

I have a Florida cinder block house with slab foundation. I have some minor cracks but only between some of the blocks so your tape will work well on both sides. The only thing a little serious is one corner has slipped a quarter of an inch. But no worries, both walls are very straight and not bowed. It's probably all through settling. I have to figure out what to do about it. I really don't think any thing extensive needs to be done.

Hello! I'm looking at a 110 year old house with different generations of additions. The original house has a basement and a area with a crawl space. the floors slope in one direction. I didn't take any measurements of the slope but it was significant. It seems there is some water issue in the basement area. the foundation in cinder block and appears to be in good condition (no noticeable cracks) Just wondering what the next steps would be to diagnose and repair. thanks

I have a spot at the bottom of my poured foundation that looks like it’s bulging out. Is this from the forms giving way when the foundation was poured? It is in the middle of the 24 inch mark of where the form was.

Redwood trees or big trees around a house will create active cracks eventually. The roots don't care about your house. Always good to plant a tree near a house away from house that can provide shade for summer cooling

Watching this video because I've been living in the same house 25 years I'm 35 now. The house has been in my family since it was built in the 50s. As far as i know it hasn't had any major repairs since around the late 80s/early 90s, my aunt and her husband used to do most of the repairs and hire very cheap labor. Now the sidewalk around my grease trap is cracked and unleveled(there's a hole forming pretty deep, where a tree grew for 40years) and even big chunks are breaking off. The entire house from front to back has cracks all over it. The porch is beginning to separate and the interior is riddled with cracks and stress marks. I live in Chicago so weather definitely plays the biggest part in this. I've noticed a couple more houses on my block have similar issues. One directly across from me has the same issues on the outside, their stairs are even worse and this house was renovated about 15 years ago with an expansion to the attic,almost new everything as far as cosmetic improvements. I really don't want to let the house go under but i can't afford a 100k+ repairs. I've been freaking out almost every time it rains, snows, or is super windy. Oh and my house was hit by a car 20 years ago, the impact spot was a column on the front porch supporting the roof recently started shifting

Was in process of buying a brand new house with LGI a day ago and when I saw the brand new house already had the cracks I was so scared because based on the reviews the house will end up having foundation issues. I think it's crazy for a brand new house to have such issues. Any advice? Thanks.

Well, they don't build homes like they used to (maybe that's good?). I think I'd look for a home built within the last 10 years and bring an inspector along with me and have him/her examine the foundation and interior for any structural issues.

Seems like common sense. However, the cable company that removed soil from underneath my driveway, didn’t properly backfill, then destroyed the grade of the drainage area beside the driveway couldn’t understand why I said it was their fault for my driveway sinking.
@fatfatr

if you dig underneath a driveway its compromised and its impossible to backfill and compact

I painted this whole house and am unhappy to see cracks at the drywall joins, started from ceiling and moved down the wall upstairs. Had the place 7 months. They're all small, hairline cracks, but there were NONE when I got it that I ever saw. Downstairs, there's a crown molding where paint is cracked at the join on both sides. It's maybe 1/64th inch. Upstairs, because they didn't know what they were doing, the drywall on ceiling matches the line on sloped ceiling wall. I think they're supposed to be staggard and cross the previous wall things. Not the beams, the bits closer to wall surface. Drywall should lie SIDEWAYS, right. Not up and down? Spaced 4 feet apart in the stagger? If I could do it again. I'd buy from someone I KNOW, and take the inspection classes MYSELF, over hire anyone. 2 houses you want that fall though is about 800 here. That's 100 less than the class. I plan to READ all those old Time Life books from the 80s, too! Oh, the drywall was CLEARLY not laid, taped or muddle right, because the hairline cracks MOVE when you push them a bit. If I did it, it DEFINITELY wouldn't MOVE. Even if I knew nothing else about it! I'm awful with tools, but my stuff is solid. What I put up will break itself, before the screw comes out.
