What Are the INTERIOR Signs of Foundation FAILURE?

A settling foundation can be, well, unsettling. But how do you know if your home’s foundation is on stable ground or slowly sinking into it? The obvious sign would be cracks in the foundation itself. And if you have those, it’s definitely time to call in an expert to inspect your home! But did you know that things like sticking doors and windows can also be a sign of foundation settlement? In fact, there are many things that you can find throughout a home that can be signs of a settling foundation. Watch Foundation Supportworks engineer Kyle as he explains how to identify some common interior signs of foundation settlement. Remember, foundation problems don’t get better with time - but they *do* get better when you hire a Foundation Supportworks dealer to fix them permanently!
And to find the nearest Foundation Supportworks contractor near you, visit www.foundationsupportworks.com/dealers.html or call 1-888-387-2025.

Hey Kyle. Condo HOA. I think the structure I live in has Slope Creep due to long term over-Irrigation and failing to maintain storm water drainage. Care to discuss stormwater drainage, symptoms, how to measure string anchor a threshold. Thank you:

If the cracks are visible in first floor and second floor but not on ground floor, still those be considered the foundational errors?

We are looking at buying a house that has some exterior cracks in the upper level bricks and mortar. How do you know if this is a problem?

It’s probably not. Unless it’s huge. But foundation in Texas are terrible

Rather unsettling eh? Any way, here's a question for you Kyle, should you choose to accept the challenge. In our lounge we have multiple cracks in an *internal* wall made of breeze block (here in the UK). Luckily, we have a cellar room on the other side of the cracked wall but can see no cracks in the breeze blocks. Maybe this suggests the cracks are in the plaster only? A while ago we corrected a, presumably longstanding, roof leak problem directly underneath this wall (under certain wind conditions) but the cracks are now getting bigger. Also, there used to be a dank smell in the lounge and it has now gone away. Therefore, is it possible that the moisture from the leaky roof is now drying out in the summer months and is therefore no signs of structural issues?

I think you're on to something. Many soils will show a changes in volume with changes in moisture levels. They can swell when they get wet and they can shrink when they dry out. Either change can cause foundation problems. Actually, the most common time for settlement to occur is in the late summer months especially during periods of drought.

I painted this whole house and am unhappy to see cracks at the drywall joins, started from ceiling and moved down the wall upstairs. Had the place 7 months. They're all small, hairline cracks, but there were NONE when I got it that I ever saw. Downstairs, there's a crown molding where paint is cracked at the join on both sides. It's maybe 1/64th inch. Upstairs, because they didn't know what they were doing, the drywall on ceiling matches the line on sloped ceiling wall. I think they're supposed to be staggard and cross the previous wall things. Not the beams, the bits closer to wall surface. Drywall should lie SIDEWAYS, right. Not up and down? Spaced 4 feet apart in the stagger? If I could do it again. I'd buy from someone I KNOW, and take the inspection classes MYSELF, over hire anyone. 2 houses you want that fall though is about 800 here. That's 100 less than the class. I plan to READ all those old Time Life books from the 80s, too! Oh, the drywall was CLEARLY not laid, taped or muddle right, because the hairline cracks MOVE when you push them a bit. If I did it, it DEFINITELY wouldn't MOVE. Even if I knew nothing else about it! I'm awful with tools, but my stuff is solid. What I put up will break itself, before the screw comes out.

I’ve been told my entire foundation is sinking in a slanted way!! 😭😭😭 I really think I’m gonna have to walk away from my house which I’m sure will ruin me financially! My marriage is sinking and so is my house! I guess I’ll just chuck everything in and start over…😭😭 My quotes are: $54,000 and $90,000 I just can’t figure out HOW it could cost that much??? 😭😭😭

54 to 90k? what are those quotes for ? you can lift your house and pour an entire new foundation for that price..

@@MaDGriZz78 Not in Mass or CT, it could cost 200K or more to lift the house, tear out the old foundation and put in a new one. Ct will pay up to 190K but the waiting list is years long. Mass does nothing to help homeowners w foundation issues this serious.

I have all these interior signs, but was told piers won't solve the problem. I was told my entire foundation needs to be replaced vs. Installing piers on the perimeter of the house. HELP, I do not know what to believe if to install the piers or install an entire foundation. Any advice is appreciated.
