I have done that before. You can, the only problem is it can make it splotchy. It might not get it as dark in certain spots if you don't have enough vinegar
@patung1990 you can also use mustard to give it a similar look. It won't be as dark just make sure the blade is high carbon. If it is stainless it won't get dark
@@ForgedEdge Oh ok, it looks like I have two options, soak it with cotton rag or rub it with a rag of hot vinegar. Thank you so much. Your video is so helpful, should've found it earlier.
@@ForgedEdge I did the soaking with a rag of vinegar. At first try, it turns polish silver colour to steel bluish grey. I like the colour that way on my machete, so i stopped, Luckily, not much splotch visible. Am going to repeat the process on my other knives until they turn dark blue grey.
That handle looks like it needs more contouring and rounding those edges. Those edges on there would not feel good in hard use. Plenty of tips on that on the Blade Forums, and also is not that hard to find on more experienced knifemaker turorials. Sincerely, JS
@@ForgedEdge sounds good, didn't even look at how far back the video was, just saw that and thought I should comment to help improve the design so it would work better in use for you and your customers. Sincerely, JS
I got that same orange ring you're showing, and I love it. If I can suggest something, it would be to round off the edges of the rings. I'm not sure how hard that would be.
