That happens to me all the time. Draw this right away. I reuse countless croqui's. And I admittedly trace the face same and go from there. I need to try these art programs I am tired of limitations of ipad photoshop.
Authoritarian personalities likely gravitate towards strict religious belief systems. Many many scientists are self-proclaimed agnostics or atheists, which is probably very useful for doing science. If you believe only humans can discover knowledge of our natural world, you are probably much more driven to go out into the world testing hypotheses, etcetera. You might feel that only you, as a human, are going to come up with answers about how humans evolved, and so this could make for a very determined and curious scientist. I think some scientists do express a belief in God, but it's not, like, a dogmatic belief. Freethinker, here. Do believe in God and have tried to embrace the positive parts of organized religion (the charitable side of churches), but so many are just too dogmatic and judgmental. And some organized religions are just so darned patriarchal (women can't be ordained, etc.). Belief ought to be organic, if one does have a notion of something in the universe more intelligent than themselves, not imposed upon others. Finally, I think people often project their own personalities onto their concepts of a higher power (authoritarians believe in a punishing God and focus on strict adherence to rules, for example). I absolutely agree with the weirdness aspect of organized religion as a child. It can be healthy if not cult-like, if it encourages groups to go out and be charitable, but really, you don't need to choose one belief system as superior to others if you have a healthy, organic sense of some higher power. Cults are manipulative. They start out with love-bombing, but then attempt to isolate followers from other sources of information, and if people start to be more independent-minded, cults can then turn on them and drive them out. That is just soooo not a healthy thing.
WELL SAID. I couldn’t agree MORE. If you want more backstory on that video, check out Brendan McGowan’s Clergy Talk Episode. He played Papa Emeritus 3 in the video.
For Zev The origin story was of a young Papa Nihil and young Sister Imperator. And not to knock Ghost (raving Ghost fan, here, you can probably tell by my chosen name), but the Dance Macabre origin story set in an LA mansion didn't quite connect with the Mary on a Cross story, which is set in the 60's. That might be the only critique I can come up with for anything that genius Tobias Forge has done with Ghost, that little idiosyncratic time period mismatch with young Nihil/Imperator origin stories. ❤️ this podcast guest and Dance Macabre is my absolute favorite Ghost video. So much so that my friendship bracelet worn to see Rite Here Right Now said "What party?" on it Ghost forever! 🤘
I had the pleasure of knowing zev I high school and playing a little music with him and it's awesome he is the same guy but just way more interesting hahah. He's a great mind in art and he deserves his flowers for being rad.
Holy Moly! Excellent interview and I am the fellow that sent in the photos that he mentioned. It was a huge thrill to get those and the letter back! Thank you Alan and I hope to meet you in person at some juncture in life. You are a hilarious comic actor!
Loved this interview! Especially having watched it after seeing RHRN 5 times at the theater. Loved how Sister Imperator was glammed up with the classic Hollywood red lips and cat-eye black eyeliner. The red heels made me wonder "Is Sister wearing Louboutins?" I was actually looking to see if the undersides were red or not! 😂 Maralyn has such a lovely voice, by the way. All of her lines in the movie and from the Chapters were crystal clear, because of that classy and articulate voice.
I had realized Terzo in He Is wasnt Tobias because of the obvious build difference (and eventually saw it was Brendan) but i had not realized he played him on Square Hammer too. 🤯
I watched the movie and was eagerly waiting for the Credits because I was hoping to see if they credited him. I was aware he wanted to stay anonymous, so I wasnt really expecting it... I was super excited to see that Mister Ursillo had been credited and we finally knew who he was (cause i also thought it might have been a different actor) and i have to admit I immediately googled him already on the way out of the cinema and found his youtube channel where he has like only two things up and the little short film where he also played a "Papa" giving advice to their son... and i have to admit, i did share that with tumblr. I'm sorry if the sudden attention is causing problems with his other business ventures or making him worried about his privacy... but i hope he gets more opportunities as an actor and whatever else he wants to do through this.
I loved the interveiw and love sister ash as much as I love ghost and papa nihil. Canada's biggest fan just got bigger great job sister and thank you for us being able to get to know Alan.
He has a great view on art. I've been a ghost fan since I think 2016-2017 Cirice I heard I went yep I'm in. Being a Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, KISS, Alice Cooper that 60s, 70s and 80s music I was craving. I was never into Nu Metal, Grudge. I liked Type O negative, lacuna coil, nightwish, blind guardian but as a retired haunted house actor from 98-2019, glam shock rock old school fan, Ghost was like drinking water in a desert beach. And even trying my own bands that failed.. Ghost was kinda what I wanted to do. I liked the humor, good clean singing, abba-style catchy-ness, spooky-ness.
Bless her. I have a friend who has an autistic son. He was told his son might not walk, much less talk. He dug in and that kid just got accepted to a technical 4 year college. They treat it like NBD, and they should, but I admire the long road they had to hoe together. The love of a father. . . Her work is quietly wonderful.
What a treat. Me and my wife have been Ghost Fans for some time. Our first Ritual in January 2022 sent us down the Ghost rabbit hole. 😂😂 Now we live there. The RU-vid algorithm suggested your podcast, and im so glad it did. Very amazing! Can't wait to see more. Thank you so much, Sister 😊
This was my first time discovering Clergy Talk and I loved it and subscribed. Sister Ash you are an awesome host and interviewer. If Mr. Ursillo is reading the comments. Thank you for giving Papa Nihil life and an after life. Your sax solo is how I introduce people to the band that are unfamiliar with Ghost.
I always wondered why he wanted to stay anonymous. I always thought he was maybe embarrassed and didn't wanna be associated with Ghost, but this really makes me appreciate him even more
