Wat een mooi schetsboek! Ben benieuwd met wat voor moois je hem allemaal gaat vullen. Zou voor mij leuk zijn als vakantie journal. Dan met een mooie voorkant, maar zonder tekst (bijv blauwe zee).
I have already subscribed, but I hope I can still enter. I really love this idea. If I win, I would like a painted book with Barbara's attempts. Thank you
Hi Barbara! Of course you can participate! I’ll be drawing a winner next Saturday the 'old-fashioned' way-by putting all the names in a pot and picking one ☺. That seems like the fairest method to me. Thanks for your response!
The pink tape I use isTesa Sensitive tape, that really works wel. Even if you don't use Gesso, this Tesa tape does not damage your paper. The yellow tape you see me using in other video's is much stronger and I use it only on paper that I first prepare with Gesso. Gesso is indispensable for me. Gesso ensures that the paper doesn't absorb the paint too much, allowing the paint to glide smoothly over the surface. This means you use less paint, and even if the tape you use has a strong adhesive, it is less likely to damage. Another important tip: remove the tape as quickly as possible before the paint is completely dry; otherwise, it can still pull off pieces of paper or paint during removal. Washi tape usually works well too, as it doesn't stick as strongly. So, I find gesso is the answer to the problem if you paint with acrylics and want to use tape. If you don't have gesso, you can reduce the stickiness of the tape by pressing it against your table or clothes first. If paints sticks to the paper you can use a hairdryer of heatgun (be careful) and when the tape gets a bit warm, it is also easier to remove. I wrote an article about gesso on my blog, which you can find at www.tinekederaat.nl. The article is in Dutch, but I guess Google Chrome will translate it for you. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching the video! (maybe I should make a video about this topic;)
I forgot to mention this: always pull the tape AWAY from your painting at a 45-degree angle. I sometimes forget this step, but since I use gesso, it’s usually not a problem.
Hi, thank you! If you paint with acrylics on paper or any other surface, it's not necessary to hang it behind glass. However, I recommend varnishing it with a varnish for protection. I prefer spray varnish because it’s easy and quick to use. You can choose from matte, semi-gloss, or gloss finishes, depending on your preference. Varnish helps protect your painting from dust and discoloration caused by sunlight. Thanks for watching the video!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it! Acrylic paint is an easy medium to work with, allowing you to add as many layers as you want. Using a harmonious color palette like this one, with colors that blend well together, always produces a beautiful result. In this painting, I used blue, blue-green, and yellow ochre, which form an analogous color scheme. These colors are next to each other on the color wheel and always work well together, just like yellow, orange, and red, or any other three neighboring colors. To calm the colors and create depth, I often add a layer of one color mixed with glazing medium, making it transparent so the underlying colors are still slightly visible. Thanks for watching, and good luck with your painting!
I have to add something to this. With any color scheme, it's nice to add contrast with very dark and very light colors, like black and white, or in this case, brown and white. However, this is not necessarily required; it depends on your personal preference. Hope this is helpful:)
Thank you, I'm glad to hear that! I aim to keep the videos short while providing enough information for everyone to follow along. Adding many layers makes the painting more interesting and dynamic, and I'm still exploring the best way to showcase this process. Thanks for watching!
Just subscribed to your channel. I really like this painting, simple but beautiful, and also the music you have put it to. This will be a really nice tutorial to do when I get round to it : )

Hi Sheila, I just want to let you know I am working on the video with a two color study, hopefully I can upload it next weekend. I've tried some color combinations and ordered a blue I've never used before, it was on backorder so it took a while ;)
@@tinekederaat Hi Tineke, thank you very much for letting me know. I can’t wait to see it. Mixing colours to make new ones is difficult if you’re a beginner. Best wishes, Sheila
Thank you Lisa! Hope you enjoy painting these simple sescapes. They are so relaxing to paint and you can't go wrong with them, as long as the colors match each other nicely, you will always get a nice result! Thank you for your comment❤
Thank you for your comment, yes the initial layer is gesso and it is dry before painting. I always use gesso, wheter it is on paper, canvas or wood panel.
Hi, no it is not difficult. It is actually the same process. On a big canvas I use large paintbrushes and a large palette knife. It takes only a bit more time and a lot more paint:)
