My favorite in LA so far has been India's Restaurant on Fountain ave for more authentic style. I'll have to check this out for the fusion the stuff. Also, chai and chai tea are 2 different things. As a Desi, the phrase "chai tea" still bother me, but chai tea is a westernized attempt of masala chai. Just "chai" is usually black tea with milk and sugar, not all the other spices and stuff in it.
