'Must be facing the enemy to parry' Yet mid-air parries are multi-directional so you can be facing any direction in mid-air and your parry will still work.
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 21 день назад
True, I should have mentioned that as well. I really like that mechanic as sometimes in the air attacks come from unclear angles and making it so you can always parry them removes that ambiguity.
@rednova2212
@rednova2212 21 день назад
@@TheDerpakaJohnny Additionally, dunno how many people know this, but the Air Parry/Tai Chi Kick is more forgiving in terms of frames that it allows the parry to be a perfect parry vs an imperfect parry vs just not parrying altogether.

It’s so so good. I’m not a regular souls player but the premise was just so enticing I finally jumped in nose first. I’m almost at the end, just Simon and NP left.

It’s such an amazing game. Struggling at first after completing several runs of Sekiro and Elden Ring, I needed time to adjust to the mechanics, but now that I’ve figured it out I just love it. The graphics, the art design, the music,the story, the bosses, P-organ, Legion arm weapon crafting. Just perfect.

really good review, i VERY much agree that the grab attacks should be more identifiable, the boss glowing yellow was a great idea, also would add that the game not having a sekiro style way to refight the bosses is a major flaw, the bosses are way to good for you to have to play the hole game again if want a rematch (or save scam), but i would disagree with the weight you put on the lack of quality of life features, most of your ideas are good, but the game already takes an extra step with the little new convienences that it does implement, like having your armor not clash with your fashion (that none Fromsoft game done yet, maybe Sekiro but the game simply doesnt have armor so I wouldnt count), that it just feels unreasonable to ask them to risk more, when theyve already done a lot of new things to make the expirience more smooth, maybe you just came out more negative than you meant about it idk, but again great review +subscribber
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 9 месяцев назад
Thanks! Yeah it would have been nice if they included a rematch system for sure. I didn't mean to say that those missing quality of life features made me dislike the game or anything like that, but I do think they would have added quite a bit to the experience and have been relatively easy to implement. But I did probably come across more negative than I feel about the game, I love the game.

ain't no way you think the boss design is better lmao the telegraphing on the attacks is absolutely atrocious especially coupled with the fact that the parry only has 4 I-frames
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 10 месяцев назад
I think there are only a handful of poorly telegraphed attacks from bosses in the entire game. What attacks do you think are poorly telegraphed? I don't mind the number of frames a perfect parry is. I've seen a lot of complaints about that and if it was a frame or two longer that would be fine, but I don't think it needs to be. I am able to parry incredibly consistently despite the short window, and I think it being so tight makes it feel more satisfying and rewarding to parry a string of hits.

@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 10 месяцев назад
Damn, you must have explored and/or grinded more than me. But I also feel like part of the issue is that even if you eventually get enough moonstones to upgrade multiple weapons, there will be times before certain fights that you can't upgrade multiple weapons to as high as your best weapon. Which can discourage you from trying out new weapons. At least that was my experience.

The handle and blade system is such a genius system - maybe the best in all soulslikes. But I 100% agree with the limited crafting mats, such a shame. I will say this tho. I upgraded a blade I like to 10 on my first play through. Then I just switched handles or might even re-spec to use a specific handle for a boss. Lots of flexibility.
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 10 месяцев назад
Yeah, at least you can change out the handles. And it is also super nice that you can change the scaling of handles to your preferred stat.

You can easily max 5 normal weapons in 1 playthrough given you also get all of polendinas supply boxes i found doing more than 1 or 2 boss weapons was a little more scarce in max stones but you can easily get several +9 weapons in your first playthrough while still having those 5 +10s with doing full exploration
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 10 месяцев назад
You can definitely do that, but there will be plenty of times where you can't upgrade a second weapon to the same level as your best weapon before a boss. I did explore thoroughly, but I didn't farm enemies or search every single pathway so I obviously missed some upgrade stones. I just think even being limited to 5 weapons is a mistake with the weapon creation mechanic that encourages experimentation so much.

I don't agree with the point about upgrade materials, a lot of enemies drop them , I always had 3 weapons upgraded when I did an Advance run one for each element, I did farm a bit but nothing outrageous at least two weapons I upgraded naturally and the third had to farm for it but not that much, enemies that drop upgrade materials drop them often. Maybe you meny special upgrade materials for boss weapons? Those are rare yes but even then I still managed to fully upgrade two weapons.
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 10 месяцев назад
Personally I hate having to farm for things like that, especially if I want to try out every weapon I get with a few different handles. Even if it doesn't take a terribly long time, wouldn't it better to have a solution that didn't require grinding to try various weapons?

Good review even though i completely disagree with most of your gripes about features that should be in the game but have not been in any other Souls games. The complaints could be levied at any game in the Souls genre and Lies of P has so many positive ones, i am definitely not going to carp about what could have been. Especially since Lies of P is the hardest game i have ever played but at the same time, there are so many good features and fair game design that i almost never lose my ergo even when i am stuck in an area for hours, unlike the Souls games. The boss fights have incredibly tight hit boxes that feel legit and each time i fight them, i can feel the progress. I love that most of the difficulty in this game is from bosses rather being irritated by crappy level design and enemies in between bosses. The weapon altering system is one of the most unique and fun systems ever and i love that the game gives you enough stones you can try out mutliple weapons as you level. Great video, appreciate all the work it must have taken.

Don't get me wrong I love the game, but that doesn't mean there aren't ways to improve it (and to improve the other souls games). Yeah the boss fights have the clearest animations and hitboxes in any souls game imo, yet they still manage to be very difficult without any bullshit, which is a massive achievement. Thanks!

@@TheDerpakaJohnny True, i probably should have been more clear that although i personally disagree, they weren't bad ideas you were putting forward at all and clearly had a lot of careful thought put into them. Most of them i would even be fine with but i do love the game as is and i am glad many reviewers like you do too. I was not prepared to even like Lies of P, let alone fall in love with it as i have. I think Sekiro is the hardest game i ever played and i felt in many ways that it was because of poor encounter design, especially anything that wasn't the main bosses and the game never clicked with me. Lies is even harder than that but it's in much fairer ways. My biggest ask for the game would be a longer Perfect Guard window. It definitely works as is but i think that one "small" change would help the overall difficulty curve of the game and allow more people to enjoy it.
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 10 месяцев назад
Yeah Sekiro has a lot of mini bosses that have a ton of weak enemies around them which can feel cheap sometimes. I personally found Sekiro harder, but I think if I had played Lies of P before Sekiro than I would have felt the reverse, so it is difficult for me to judge without playing through Sekiro again. I don't think it would have hurt to extend the perfect guard a frame or two, but I don't mind it as is. I felt like I was able to get it down consistently and it felt more rewarding by being so tight. And if you are struggling to get the timing down for a move you can dodge out of it instead.
@juanlescano3646
@juanlescano3646 10 месяцев назад
Yes, I thought the same thing about grab attacks. They should flash blue or something, so you know you have to dodge. Then if you get grabbed in a boss fight you get a tutorial screen when you revive that tells you that blue attacks have to be dodged and cannot be blocked. Easy QoL feature.

I'd suggest Sekiro has good level balance with multiple open levels at the same time. You can choose between Senpou, Ashina Depths and Sunken Valley after defeating Genichiro. Additionally Hirata is always open for the player. Since stats/skill trees don't really matter too much in Sekiro, the player can choose between different areas/bosses to fight first. Nice review, keep up the good work :D

I disagree , the upgrade materials aren't a issue they can be farmed killing enemy/ some butterflies & u can buy em from the old lady's butler at the des with the exception of full rainbows moon Me personally I don't really care if I can't see the stagger i know it's coming regardless it just a rush when it pops up
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 10 месяцев назад
Fair enough, I would just prefer to not have to spend time farming enemies to upgrade however many weapons I want. Yeah you can get a feel for when a stagger is coming. But I do think it would make parrying feel more satisfying if you could see the stagger bar go up as you parry a string of attacks.

the problem with the kick attack is how close the telegraph is to another move. my strategy was just to always attempt to parry when I saw the tell of him droping his right arm. Either way I do agree that this move is a bit too obtuse, it took until my lv10 run to even start using this strategy, before that it was just kind of a move he would do and I would get hit by. Edit: Im talking about the fuoco boss

Loved your review, and on the point of blade upgrades I do agree to some extent that it limits you to one or two weapons, but I think you missed that trough the upgrades to polendina’s shop you can buy an infinite amount of moonstones. At first it’s only hidden moonstones, then crescent moonstones and lastly half moonstones (idk if ng+ unlocks infinite full moonstones in the shop, I haven’t done it yet) it works like the thing you talk about, there’s points in the game where you can easily get all weapons to +3, then +6, then +8 (I could be wrong on where exactly the upgrades go but you get the idea) one problem with this tough is that it’s really hard to judge a new blade’s damage output, you have to upgrade your weapons just to see how the damage compares to the blade you’re currently using and it’s annoying (I did that with the etiquette, I upgraded it up to level 3 which for boss weapons is pretty much level 6 to realize it really did pitiful damage)
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 10 месяцев назад
Glad to hear it! Yeah that solution is better than nothing, but those often unlock after you have access to a higher tier of moonstone so you still can't upgrade another weapon as much as your main one. And yeah, having to upgrade a weapon to compare damage is pretty annoying.

I genuinely think that lies of p has the best boss roster since dark souls 3. My personal favorite in lies of p was king of puppets mainly because of the dichotomy between his two phases. He only narrowly beats out laxasia for me, with nameless puppet number 3. I actually really enjoyed both black rabbit brotherhood fights, they are ganky but I still really enjoyed having to tactically decide who to target and when. That and they are all significantly different from one another with good passive states that prevents them kinda mobbing up and chasing you like godskin duo.

@@Anubiszz512zz Mine too. TotK is good and certainly a huge, gorgeous world to enjoy. Problem is, it is still basically the same gameplay loop and world as BotW, meaning it is way overlarge for the amount of content, the runes are not as fun(it just takes way too damn long to stick things together over and over), and they kept the same exact shitty weapon durability system even though it was near universally despised. I do need to try Armored Core 6 as well, but i don't think it is going to move the needle since Lies of P is somehow very familiar but also very unique and has a great world and story to boot.

@@sonofobi5052 Damn, I strongly disagree. The bosses are super fast but with very few exceptions (like the fire kick in King Flame Fuoco and the Laxasia dash attack) felt very fair. The amount of 2 phase fights can get tiring, but most of those second phases are excellent fights.

1:41 bro forgot boomerangs 💀 anyways, a point i haven't heard anyone really talk about is how certain biomes are underused mainly granite & marble effectively being nonexistent, and then snow & desert not really contributing much despite immense potential snow did get deerclops, but noone ever fights him cause his loot sucks and he's a pain in the ass to even spawn overall i'm incredibly mixed on the game, i love it, but at the same time there's so much time spent playing it where i just feel miserable but i can recognise that just like with losing money while gambling, the lows are the reason the highs are so high, spending hours getting gear, accesories, weapons, building the right arena etc, all for a couple of minutes of high intensity dodging and blasting against the leafiest milf ever put into a video game, is pure, fucking, *dopamine* i do wish you had the option of starting with a weak magic, ranged, or summoner weapon instead of the copper shortsword tho cause needing to spend so goddamn long searching for a fucking finch staff or something like that so you can start playing the video game is just not it man
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 11 месяцев назад
lol I guess I did It's true that the granite/marble biomes are underused, but I have played mods that add bosses to those areas and honestly I prefer them being barren. Adding a single boss to a specific area often forces you to create an arena specifically for it which can feel like a waste of time. I don't think it is as fair to lump the snow and desert biomes into that same category. They both have unique enemies and loot to find in the underground as well as sandstorms/blizzards. Personally despite some slow points in the game where you are preparing for fights, I love the game. But that is also one area modded can help with significantly. There are so many quality of life mods that reduce time spent grinding and Calamity to add bosses to basically every biome and extend the end game a ton. That wouldn't be a bad idea, but at the same time, it is easy enough to craft a bow or gem staff. Summoner is definitely the odd man out, and it can take quite a bit longer to get your first summoner weapon if you get unlucky and it would be nice if that was improved.
@fortnitesexman
@fortnitesexman 11 месяцев назад
@@TheDerpakaJohnny well i don't think granite/marble should have full on bosses, but it would be nice for them to be a little bigger, less frequent, and for them to have unique loot or..mini bosses? i don't remember if something like the wyvern is called that, but simply adding a dude like that with a funny drop to the area could make you go "now that i'm in hardmode i should go to a granite/marble biome" and honestly, while i still think the snow biome is kinda ass when you go below the surface, the underground desert is amazing, traps are fucking everywhere, and forget about boulders, have fun dealing with *green boulders* i really just wish i had more of a reason to go down there than bast statues, and they already have something that could work, the pyramid thingy, as it stands it's just a staircase with a chest, but i just woke up so i can't really think of anything to make it better without literally just making it the lihzahrd temple pre-hardmode summoner as a whole kinda just has a stick up his ass, despite using 2 seperate weapons at the same time which no other class really does since dual wielding isn't a thing, it's still a massive pain in the ass to get either, become a billionaire and buy one from zoo, farm for eternity in the jungle, or *beat skeletron with a copper shortsword* before farming for bones and then summons, die a bunch, then spend eternity waiting for a flower to grow, get lucky with a big tree, farm flinx's for even longer than an eternity, kill approximately 10 thousand slimes, fish, somehow in gods name beat queen bee, or go to hell maybe some of these could be craftable? mainly thinking about the finch staff, like if you catch a bird with a bug net, then get some wood and maaaybe some vines, cause not every world has a finch staff, and it's kinda scuffed that your first weapon is usually gonna be a flinx staff i haven't gotten to hardmode summoner yet so i'm yet to see what that experience is like, although i know one of the better summons is gotten from.. *shudder* fishing.. but i do think it says a lot about a game when my critiques boil down to wanting even more content in the game, as if there isn't already a ludicrous amount 💀 OH, have you tried multiplayer btw? cause that's an area i really think they could improve on, not only are connection lost's common but the entire experience is a bit laggy too, like with enemies being able to attack you even after you've killed them 2 or 3 times, water flowing too slowly, meaning if you're submerged and mining obsidian you have to be careful not to fall into the lava, and bosses teleporting around (this only really happened with queen bee) although it *is* funny to fall through my hellavator, and before it has time to properly load i can just fall through to the bottom of the underworld
@TheDerpakaJohnny
@TheDerpakaJohnny 11 месяцев назад
@@fortnitesexman Yeah it wouldn't hurt to have some mini bosses or unique useful drops in those biomes. I do like the snow biome if nothing else for it's atmosphere, the underground music really fits that area. And I like that there are unique items to get like ice skates and some weapons in the early game. The desert does also have the conch, and in hardmode the dark shards which can be used to create cool ranged and magic weapons. And I really like the concept of different classes needing to explore different biomes more thoroughly to get their weapons at various points of the game. But yeah the pyramid could obviously be improved. Yeah I do think their should be a craftable starter weapon for every class. And catching a bird does seem like a fitting way to do that. Yeah it isn't exactly fair to ask for more content when the game has been updated so many times over the course of over a decade and so much has been added. But that is where modded (especially Calamity) shine. Yeah I've played a good bit of multiplayer, maybe I just got lucky but I didn't ever have any connection lost's, there was the occasional boss teleporting on my screen, but it wasn't super frequent. Though the obsidian thing was always an issue lol.
