Hi. Your drone video was awesome. Did you need to register your drone or get permits to film? I am planning to go Jeju and looking to also do a drone video. Thanks!
Hi Gibbon, Thank you for the guide on setting up Alipay. It is very helpful and detailed. I have tried to use Alipay in Singapore after the set up but it isn't working. Can we test Alipay in Singapore before our trip to China, or is it only available for use by foreigners within China? Please kindly assist. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Yes, I’ve ever tried scanning the Alipay+ QR code in Singapore and it works, although the payment will be in RMB. Do you know what is the error message when u scanned the QR code in Singapore?
@@gibbontravelogue I scanned the Alipay QR code without the '+' at the end, and received an error message stating, "Payment failed. This service is only available for individuals with a China identification card." or Is it we can only use Alipay+ QR code in Singapore?
@@StephanieGan-yb1xp thanks. My understanding is that our international Alipay account would be able to scan both Alipay+ and Alipay QR code. But since you have this message, then I could be wrong. Nevertheless, you can try using it in China, it might work. At the same time, you could also have WeChat Pay as a backup.
@@gibbontravelogue Yes, I have the same understanding as you. I will try to test at other vendors in Singapore and see if they work. Hopefully it will work in China. Yes, I have also downloaded the WeChat as a backup. Thanks for your help.
Hi, thanks for the video. A great help for planning my trip to China. Also I wanted to know what the student discount applies to… The train ticket? When would I show this information? And what do I need to provide to prove I’m a student? Thank you again for the great video!
Hey, thanks and glad the video has been helpful to you. Yes, the discount applies to the train tickets. I cannot be very sure, but for foreigners, all checks and verification are done at the entry points into the train station (at the side). The locals will go through the automated gantries.
Hello Gilbert and Lilian, A very good video for those visiting Chongqing. How many days did you spend in Chongqing? I am thinking of taking a cruise from Chongqing to Shanghai so your itinerary will come in useful.
@gibbontravelogue your videos are quite informative, I cannot understand why so little people view them. But, on the bright side, you got 1 additional subscriber now!🥰
It's cumbersome but you can take a screen shot and then run it through a translation APP, eg: Google if you have a VPN, otherwise 'Dear Translate' (which I am pretty sure is the English version of Baidu translate). It actually works much better if you have two phones, one running the Chinese-only APP and the other pointing at the screen and doing the translation in real time. Translation APPs can translate If you are on Android then you definitely want to down load and practice using before heading to China. Especially the VPN. Dear Translate is in Chinese but you can pretty soon get the hand of which buttons do what. Google Playstore will be blocked in China. Apple App store doesn't seem to be however.
@@kshred3043 Thanks for your detail reply. Just wondering which vpn seems to work the best or do I really need more than one vpn? I’ve tried espresso VPN it’s so so…works about 40% of time.
Yes, definitely. The average temperature in Zhangjiajie in December is around 7 degrees Celsius. Pretty cold and it could snow in the high altitude, so the view is going to be amazing. It also has a low probability of rain and hence not likely to be foggy.
Now let me ask the most important point: @Gibbon, do we need a local China SIM to get online in China or the WeChat app has automatically enabled this crucial step? My logic tells me "No data No internet No connection."
No data, no connection, you would not be able to use the WeChat app. So you will need to get roaming data from your home telco, an e-sim operator or a local sim. For local sim, there will be a lot of apps that you will not be able to use such as google map, facebook, RU-vid etc
Informative video. About 2 months ago, WeChat announced purchases made by bundled foreign credit cards under 200 yuan will NOT incur any transaction fee (absorbed by the seller as a tourist promotion?). Yes, there are a few WeChat versions overseas. If you can't find My Services in Me or thru + at the top right in the chat pane, quit out and go back to the Wechat icon. Long press the icon will open up a small menu. From there, Scan, money, My QR code will enable you to scan the seller's QR code, open up your credit card and/or let new friends scan your QR code to start chatting.
Hi, I have a few questions if you don't mind. 1. These guides, are they available before you enter the park? 2. Would the price be the same with a larger group? (9 people) 3.Did you also pay for the guide's tickets?
Hey, thanks for checking out the channel. Yes, there are a lot of them offering guide services at the entrance of the national park. Unfortunately, it is quite unregulated and you cannot be sure if a guide is qualified or not. So you will need to take a chance. If you decide to engage a guide, the guide would have access to the park, so you dun have to buy a ticket for the guide. For question 2, so far, I have not come across any group discounts for just 9 people.
Hello Gibbon travelogue. I have one question I want ask you I have a wei xin pay linked bank card foreigners account, can I scan payment in China? I no have china bank card Because foreigners can’t be register I have 1 more question, can wei xin pay scan transfer to Alipay account? I thank you in advance🙏🏽❤️
If you have a WeChat account that’s already linked to a bank card (debit card) issued by your own country bank, the answer is yes. You should be able to make QR code payment in China. For your second question, whether a WeChat account can make a payment to an Alipay account, yes this was enabled in 2022.
@@gibbontravelogue I am very happy for your interpretation thank you so much 🙏🏽❤️ Today I also have another problem to ask you I can not top up my Alipay account because I’m no have bank account in Mainland China visacard mastercard in my country can’t top up money to my Alipay account Is there any way I can set up a mainland Chinese bank account remotely in my country? I have tried many ways, but I can’t do it because I do not have Chinese nationality. I do not have any ill intentions that are against the law I just want to study the market and buy products from China to sell in my country Because App alibaba 1688 does not accept payment from visacard mastercard in my country Let me apologize if I bother you 🙏🏽❤️ Thanks
@@jorndea5808 Hey that’s precisely what the video tries to do. You will not be able to use the digital wallet and open a Chinese bank account. So what u can do is to use your own local bank card (debit or credit card) and link it to your Alipay account for purchases in China.
@@gibbontravelogue Oh no, I have already connected visacard & mastercard with my alipay account and the problem is I still can not top up my alipay account, However, in the alipay account, there is an operation called Tour card, but this transaction can only top up the alipay account for 10,000 yuan, valid for only 60 days. My alipay account will be closed and I can't longer top up my transaction, In particular, my wei xin pay can make payments with Pin doudou, I am usually very skeptical wei xin pay is really easy, not as hard as that alipay account I hope one day Alipay will update I thank you very much for your explanation🙏🏽❤️🥰
@@gibbontravelogue Hello Gibbontravelogues I want you to help me make a video clip ,How to transfer money from wei xin pay to alipay account Because I do not know how to do it, & How to scan money transfer wei xin pay to alipay account and alipay to wei xin pay account I really want to know how to do it, I hope you missed this video clip because I think it is important all over the world. I thank you very much🙏🏽❤️🥰
Regarding buying train tickets before travel, if I’m not mistaken the C-Trip app allows purchase up to 2 months ahead of travel date and not just 2 weeks.
We were there in December, peak period in Hokkaido so getting a reservation wasn’t easy. We did a call a few days before the meal and were told they were full for the whole month. We persisted and somehow managed to get a lunch spot.
Question: If I added a binding of credit card to Alipay, then, purchases with Alipay in China is just like using my credit card back in the US, am I right? Will the purchases with my Alipay in China show up on the same credit statement we see in the US, in US$ and not in RMB? According to your experience, do banks/credit cards deliberately used exchange rates favorable to themselves?
Once you bind your US credit card to Alipay, all purchases in China will be reflected on your Alipay account. They will be in RMB. In your credit card statement in the US, you will see individual transactions reflected in US$ with the exchange rate charged by your card issuer with Alipay as the merchant. Different card issuers will have differing fx rates but normally banks will have a pretty high markup of the fx.
Hello. I configured my credit card in AliPay. I was able to perform a couple of small payment, but then it started to ask me for a verification code sent by SMS to my foreign phone number. Since I didn't have access to my foreign phone number, I wasn't able to keep using AliPay. Do you know what could be the reason and how to fix it?
