Jinbao is slightly more reputable than many other chinese brands, they have a large factory and produce a lot of different instruments, often for others to stamp their name on.
It sounds like a pain. Shipping it when it doesn't play those bottom notes, and in a soft case that let it get dented. That company needs to get their act in gear. These things just sound like a Bb fart anyway. The so-called "contra alto" is as low as I would go. But they cost as much as a new car.
No clue if you'll respond to this, but around how much did the repair cost? Im a college student so, Im not making tons of money but Ive been after a contrabass for awhile, wanting to play it in my college's band. Thanks for any info you can give!
Who knows if you will still reply to this, but where did you get that custom mouthpiece from that you are using on the straight up Leblanc BBflat Contra Clarinet at the end of the video?
it's a SYOS mouthpiece (Shape Your Own Sound) which is a company that 3D prints mouthpieces based on famous players and your own custom design. I personally prefer a 3D printed mouthpiece by Jared De Leon, check him out on youtube and jdwoodwind.com/shop 👍
How's the instrument holding out after 2 years? Not a clarinet player at all (Oboe & assorted low brass are my normal instruments of choice), but I'm hoping to learn some day, and this has definitely piqued my interest
yeah it's holding up great, hasn't been used too much. only thing is the nickel plating is going a bit cloudy in spots, even with a specially treated nickel polishing cloth
@@musokid89 Cheers, that's good to know. Do you think that getting the silver-plated instrument instead of the nickel-plated one would help prevent that?
Your videos about this Contra have helped me to decide to actually get one. It's in the process right now. I'm thinking about getting a Clark W. Forbes San Francisco model mpc.
I don’t live in Germany. I’ve been in Switzerland since 2006 with a short hiatus in Germany. The Vandoren mouthpiece fits on a vintage Leblanc just fine. The bore size is also not problem. The shortening of the mouthpiece and the widening of the bore (barrel and opening of upper joint) were optimisation measures that may or may not be necessary from instrument to instrument. The new barrels by S&S have made a world of difference to the instrument. A Leblanc also has a resonance key for chalumeau G and clarion D that improves intonation. Vandoren reeds appear to be the way to go, although sawn off Eb reeds work well too. I play a Selmer sopranino saxophone ligature on Ab.
This is nice. I also heard a performance on an Ab clarinet and an octo-contra-alto clarinet. EDIT: Whoops. I only read the description after commenting. Sorry about that.
Is this actually real??!!! I know it is but still it is so amazing considering the price and the LOW C! Thanks for sharing, and is this instrument available still?
I’m definitely still happy with it! I got the nickel plated version, though it’s going a little cloudy now. I got a Leblanc nickel polishing cloth and give it a good wipe down everytime I pack it away.
Thanks for sharing. This is one of my favourite arias and I always try and pick out and follow the clarinet. Good to hear it alone - the magic though when it plays around the aria ❤
Lolololol! Saxophones Practicing Overtones: Slow, Methodical, Tone Matching, Extend Range. Clarinets Practicing Overtones: Hangry Seagul! But in all seriousness i had no idea you could even get one of these in clarinet form! that's so awesome! Thanks for sharing!
I can feel those vibrations from 12,000 miles away. I love watching videos about these unusual low-pitched instruments such as contrabassoons, bass and contrabass saxes, cimbassos etc. Great that there are musicians out there who want to play these unusual instruments.
It's an arrangement of Saint Saens The Elephant from Carnival of the Animals. The role of the Elephant is usually played by a double bass, here arranged for contrabass clarinet 👍
