Also Paulino should be ranked higher. To race as often as she did not dodging anyone all year, going undefeated and running that time she did at the Olympics was insane. She deserves more credit.
I think Grant Hallway and Rai Benjamin has the best 2024 Season in my opinion. Here’s why: *Redemption* Both Grant and Rai choked last Olympics (Tokyo 2021) (they were the big Favourites to win an Olympic Gold in their events, but they lost). 3 years later (Paris 2024), Both Grant and Rai were still the big Favourites to win an Olympic Gold Medal in their events and they finally won. Upgrading their Olympic Silver Medals to Olympic Gold Medals. That’s a Perfect Redemption Stories for them imo. 🥇🥇🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🔥😎
there is more to track and field than the sprints i am challenging you to make another overall top 5 list again just another tip if you want your channel to grow you need to stop ignoring distance athletes.a lot of africans feel like this is a sprints based youtube channel and i'm sure thats not the case
For me personally it would be Alfred number 1. She put in the work and didn't shy away from anyone. At the beginning of the season there's is noone that thought that Alfred would accomplished what she did. Sydney is phenomenal but she operates to her own beat.
You having Tebogo over Lyles is kinda crazy to me. The fact that Noah won the Olympics 100m and can claim "Fastest Man in the World" is the ultimate resumé booster & tiebreaker (especially since Tebogo was a non factor in the race). And a 4x4 relay split is nice and all, but Tebogo still didn't get the job done in that race. As for Mondo, not only is he the top male track & field athlete this year, he's deserving of Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year.
I think its definitely a bit of splitting hairs, but because Noah didnt have the world lead in any event and Tebogo had a top 15 ranking in all 3 sprints (100 no.8, 200 world lead, 400 no 15) I gave him the edge. But I'ts not crazy to say Lyles had a better year than Tebogo so I respect opinion for sure! And agree, Mondo's dominance was crazy!
@@TheFinalLeg BTW, many thanks to you for ALL the content you provided this year. I enjoyed your hits here on The Final Leg and appreciated your contributions over on Citius. Despite my disagreement with you re: the rankings of Lyles & Tebogo, I really respect your your thoughts, views & opinions about the sport. "I (too) love track & field!"
Hmm, flavor of the month cant be true. Broke the 300m World Record back in March, ran a 400m back in April that still ranks him no.15 in the year, and was consistently running 19 seconds since April. But I respect the opinion, thanks for watching!
I’m not mad at this list at all. Pretty fair. I would give Tebogo over Grant because of how many different events he did this season but everything else I can see
Thats fair. I think its very close and always tricky when comparing athletes who do multiple events to an athlete who does one event. Both were super dominant!
I'm torn because Letsile should be no.1 but I selected Mondo 1 and Letsile 2 though very narrow. Why? I predicted Letsile would win the Olympic 200m from May and he did, he broke the 300m WR, he ran 44.3m in 400m and 43 low split, he ran through the circuit in the 200m, BUT he made a mistake at the end that I hope he learns from and that's he didn't finish the season strong by not winning the diamond league. He ran at a low levwl meet 2 or 3 days before the diamond league finals that he should not have ran and consequently lost the diamond league afterwards. That mistake was costly. Because that mistake and the result of not winning his diamond league finals puts him at no. 2 behind Mondo. It's a toss up for me between Noah, Galloway and Rai, and honorable mention to Kenny.
All good points for sure and potentially Tebogo could have sealed the deal with a Diamond League win. but I think I would have still had him below Mondo. Mondo was just too dominant over the rest of his competition and with 3 world records, its had to bet against that. But yea definitely hear all that!
@TheFinalLeg I could go either way and am definitely a big fan of Letsile. I do hope he does a better job of selecting his meets though. He can certainly learn from Bolt in that regard. I know he wants to make money as he says and he should but there is an efficient way to do it where you maximize your earnings while competing and I believe he would have made more money in the long run with that one less race. Track and field is about winning and then building a brand and marketing that brand because as we know the prize money is not where the big bucks are. Ending the season on a loss is a lesson to be learnt.
Rai Benjamin at #5 is insane to me; he's a comfy #2 with Holloway *just* behind fwiw. He's the only athlete this year that ran 4 1300+ marks on the track (Mondo did the same but in the PV), and the fact that he combined those performances with 2 golds in Paris is insane. He basically won the Olympics twice given he beat Dos Santos and Warholm in Monaco too. Compared to Tebogo who won gold in the 2 and did run a great PB to do so, but he lost 6 separate finals outside of that and fumbled pretty hard in the 100 in Paris.
Interesting! I can respect that thought process. I should have noted that Rai's 4 marks were significantly up the all time list. I didn't take into consideration the points tables (which to be fair I seldom reference unless its to look at combination sprinters). I think this speaks to how its tough to objectively weight all these factors for different athletes who compete in different events. Tebogo had losses, but competed very frequently and had the world lead, world record, fast split etc. Rai competed infrequently, but had fast times etc. But thats why I note its just my opinion and everyone will have different takes. Appreciate you watching!💯
Is anyone gonna talk about the Women's 4X400M RELAY and the last two legs, the third leg stumble and the fourth leg early celebration, costing the USA a world record?
Probably no because no one agrees with you. They didn't cost a WR because of a stumble and Alexis ran the 2nd fastest split on the US team as well as the 2nd fastest split on the 4th leg overall. They simply didn't break the WR but no one cost them anything.
