Learn more about how addiction works and how to get into long-term recovery and stay there. The Coleman Institute’s innovative outpatient detox programs have helped thousands of people free themselves from addiction to Alcohol, Opioids, Suboxone, Methadone and Benzodiazepines. We have an extraordinarily high 98% success rate for getting opioid patients onto the non-addictive opiate blocker, Naltrexone, which helps prevent relapse by sharply reducing cravings and blocking highs. In Richmond, VA, Wellesley, MA (Boston area), and Willoughby, OH (Cleveland area), our unique program is covered by many commercial insurance plans and includes ongoing Naltrexone therapy and supportive case management after the withdrawal management phase. Unlike other forms of rapid detox, the Coleman Method speeds patients through withdrawal in relative comfort without the use of general anesthesia. To learn more, please call us at 888-788-5474.

I went through it last night. It was horrible! I took a 8mg Sub 24 hrs after my last dose of methadone and holy hell. Within 5 min I began to sweat and get cold/hot flashes. I got horrible diarrhea and the anxiety was brutal. It was horrible as I didn’t know how long it would last. The anxiety and hopelessness I think is the worst. Luckily, I took some clonidien, gabbalentin and some dyoxasomething and fell asleep 2.5 hrs into the PWD and woke up 10 hrs later feeling better. I feel like I got lucky as I only had a few hrs of it, but it was NOT cool. I couldn’t imagine having PWD for 6-12-24+ hrs. That would be pure torture. Luckily, it didn’t last super long. Maybe those meds helped too. 😦

Can suboxone improve exercise performance . Like I’ve never heard of people talking about it that way. But can it actually help you have better workouts in the gym ? And how does it do that ?

Good video, the adoption and twin studies confirmed the genetic basis for addiction. Trauma is not the cause but can affect the development. Many traumatized people don't like alcohol or drugs, many people without trauma become addicts or alcoholics.

My lady friend has been on methadone for nearly 20yrs. For the first yr or 2 she was still using but she has been completely clean (including alcohol and pot etc) for +15yrs. Shes been at a point now for quite some time where she wants to get off the methadone but she's worried the withdrawal/recovery process will interfere with her ability to function daily (particularly work). Its been suggested to her that she wean herself off it, 1mg of her drink every week or 2, but she seems to have it set in her head that quitting fully and abruptly is the only way to go for her. She might be able to take some time off work, maybe 1 month at most, but that doesn't sound like it would be enough time. I've been looking into options for her to try and help. I don't think cold turkey is wise especially since she has been on it so long, and from what I understand her dose is borderline high (125mg), but ultimately I'll support her which ever way she goes. We watched a Documentary here on youtube about a private program in BC which uses Ibogaine to help opiate addicts quit cold turkey. It seems to do away with physical withdrawals after 1 session (maybe 2 sometimes). I imagine it's not for everyone. Does anybody have any knowledge or experience with such. There's no doubt in my mind that she's recovered, minus the methadone, and that she'll never use again. She's tired of, and concerned about, being 'handcuffed' to methadone as a means to being able to function on a daily basis. She also wants her old self back. And she feels being on methadone for such a long time is sure to have severe health consequences at some point. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

I was put on this as a pain killer. I have no history of opioid abuse. 4 years in I had to stop as the doctor thought it was causing a health issue. It ruined me. Sounds extreme but I went completely insane . 7 months in a brain fog so thick I barely remember 2023. I began engaging in high risk behaviors that I was into during my active alcoholism. I have been sober 5 years but it was like I was drinking again. Despite an ambundance of prescribed sleeping meds, I was wired for days on end , eventually crashing for 18-24 hours and missing important appointments and dates. No therapist seemed to understand my issue. Not one ever met anybody who came off of it. Who knew not taking substances would make you appear very much as a person who took substances all the time. Thanks for sharing your experiences, by the looks of some, some people did not struggle as much. Maybe my wiring was screwed at the time. I did a lot of damage but eventually came around again.

The real reason why naloxone was added was to extend the patent for suboxone. Buprenorphine has so much higher binding affinity for mu compared to naloxone that it realistically naloxone was never going to come close to preventing any sort of abuse of buprenorphine.

This is one of the stupidest things I have heard in my life! It's not that bad??? It's probably one of the worst things human beings are capable of feeling. I've never experienced being tortured, but I really don't think PWD is far off. Don't talk out of your ass if you have no idea what you're talking about.

Tell us you've never withdrawn without telling us. You cannot sleep let alone even sit comfortably for 2 seconds. If you are withdrawing from opiates, there's zero sleep for a long time. It's a nightmare. I'm pretty sure I have one of the longest records of staying awake not by choice. Over 30 days of zero sleep. Try again "doc"

I was only on 60mg and it took me almost 10 months to get off it. I'm on 2mg per day and will be off it completely in about 3 weeks. Go slow. Gabapentin and Xanax help but don't just trade one addiction for another. Good luck. I should be dead but I'm alive. Thank God.

Rapid detox is a fucking nightmare. The comfort meds are Gabapentin, Clonidine, Ativan (before induction but it should be given for the first 4 days as much as you need up to 12mg). I hallucinated, I couldn't sit still, I didn't eat for 4 days, My body hurt from lying down for so long, and the precipitated withdrawal was truly awful. I think within the next few years they will discontinue this practice becuase it is such a violent condition to put your body through. It's been 20 days since I was on fent. In case you didn't know, you will give yourself precip w/d with subutex or suboxone for the first 5-7 days if you've been on fent for a while. this is because fent is highly lipophillic meanting it collects in your adipose tissue and is slowly re-released into the bloodstream where it will clearly head towards your brain where it will reattach to your opiate receptors. So the idea is to Narcan you to get the fent off your receptors and then just use nuclear bomb doses of subutex to try and cover your receptors. Unfortuantely that puts you into full blown precip w/d and honestly i'd rather do it at home myself. That way I could get the comofrt meds , which for me always included ketamine, kratom, marijuana, benzos, some liquor, etc. I know what i'm doing and it would've taken roughly the same amount of time except I control the doses of the meds, I take them when I need them not on the detox center's fucking retarded schedule, if I feel like I need a huge line of ketamine so i can sleep for a while/k hole myself, I will. The kratom takes 70% of the symptoms away. Also research chems like Pyrazolam are indespensible as well. I will never understand why they say they're trying to get you off opiates and yet they'll let you suffer becuause of their stupid med schedule because meds are supposed to last X hours but what's weird is everyone is different so why treat everyone no matter their age, metabolism, whether they have a history of needing drugs faster than other people like I always have or what. I am going ot call them they'l and tell them what I'm telling you guys here. If you can get the meds and can take the same amount of time it's much better to do it at home. You can take subutex on the 5th day because tha'ts then there's no precip,

I take 16mg bup a day now and looking into the injection as that’s why I came off of 80ml of methadone. I was addicted to pain meds because of sciatic in my right leg. I got put on strong codeine in 2011, In 2013 I started swimming and it helped my leg so I stopped taking the pills. 😢 If you’ve ever seen the film Ray, The scene where he goes cold Turkey, That was me!. My mother walked in and seen me this way, I had to beg her to go to the pharmacy, She did and then I got put back on my meds, I also had my father and boyfriend faking pain so they would give me their prescriptions!. In Nov 2015 I went to rehab for 28 days, Day 1 they put me on 70mls methadone which made me overdose! I woke with 5 doctors around me on a breathing machine!. Anyway they reduced it every other day and day 21 I went to zero! I couldn’t cope and said I was going to walk out to nearby pharmacy, So I got put back on and apart from a 3 month blip in 2018 I stayed on methadone until jan 24, I’ve actually told my family I’m clean off everything. So they don’t know I’m on Bup, As I was so fed up of being judged. I also wanted my 82yr old granny and teenage son to be happy. I’m hoping the injection will work and I’ll be able to stop it one day xx

And now one entire pill last a week... and here i am withdrawaling bad on day 2.5... yawning cant sleep tired as hell , crawling skin , ect ect.. thing is i was on sub since 2015 , and before that 6 oxycodone 15s a day since 2004... im 37 now.. so im trying to figure out what to do.. a tiny piece every 24 hours? And go from there or just go back to oxycodone for a few weeks then stop n just do the 3 day withdrawal from those... because its only 2 to 3 day tops. Vs the months with this evil ass medicine that traps ppl. I swear it seems like a money trap

I’m 68 years old and was on opioids for pain from misdiagnosed Lyme disease. I quit opiates 4 years ago and was on suboxone. Never felt great on it. Tapered very slowly. I was down to 1/2 film of lowest dose and stopped 9 months later. This is day 48 off suboxone and still diarrhea, extreme fatigue and weakness walking. Maybe it’s my age, length of time originally on opiates. Not sure. Weird symptoms. Eyes burning, loud tinnitus, numbness bottom both feet, abnormal movement of my toes involuntary. I’m hoping when I reach the 2 month mark I’ll notice some improvement. Very hard to be active when so weak. I’m hydrating. Hopefully a light at end of this tunnel!!!

I lost almost all the peripheral veins in my arms due to years of heroin, crack and amphetamine use. I started going in my feet but stopped when I hit an artery and my foot swelled so much I couldn't remove my shoe. That really scared me. Thankfully I've been off the needle for the best part of 5 years now and my veins have shown a little improvement. They'll never go back to how they were before I started injecting though. DON'T START!

Yes you can reduce safely at home, however you need to contact your local drug and alcohol organisation and speak to a professional who will tailor to meet with your specific case. They can also refer you to a detox as an in-patient.

11 days off. Every time I feel bad I force myself to workout through the pain and it gets me back to not feeling great but good enough to want to keep going. First 3 days was exhausting and it's been a slow uphill ever since and even though I don't feel as bad it's tiring not feeling at 100% all the time but just remembering how bad it was feeling compared to now is pretty improved. Been dealing with fluctuating moods and physical symptoms and weird dreams waking up feeling like crap but it's getting better. You just have to want it more than you don't want it!
