Grading is scam, someone needs to create a authentication and encapsulating company, that's it, grading is a opinion at a given moment, I had a 7 resent it, it got a 9 waste of money,
Good breakdown and yea most of my problems is psa grades my last orders were 20% and 50% gem on same type cards so grader ruined basically a grand or more for me. Couple qs. Did u setup sales tax exempt forms and if so are they easy and do u have to renew each year. Expensive ? Worth it.? And then after a YTD roi. You have to pay gain taxes state and fed too so that also is crushing right ? I find this type business stuff one of the main benefits is the tax write offs but so hard to make 50k+ gains on grading per year 😅
This is such an informative and data-backed video. Top notch. I anecdotally have noticed the same things. I have nestled into some Victor raws in the $50-100 range .
I don't have the bankroll to buy high end cards so I only focus on grading low end cards. I've focused on CJ Stroud and Anthony Richardson and the returns have been great. Break even-ish on 9's and nice returns on 10's. Lower end rookies for desirable players are easy to sell.
I am with ya I just switched to all my saved searches being Brady manning kobe Jordan and Ichiro older cards and just be patient and not buying as much compared to getting hammered on modern😊
Love this vid! I'm trying to really scale up my business right now so this is inspiring to see. You hit the nail on the head with the Wemby market. I've had success grading the $20-$40 stuff of his and not buying it right when it's released. I've been buying base prizms for around $35 recently and can consistently get $120 out of them as PSA 10's.
I bought 50 PSA 9s on EBay, cracked them all and re-subbed them. 42% came back Gems, however only made ROI of 5%, probably because PSA 10 prices are coming down and the time lag to get your subs back. Also bought 50 raw cards off EBay and 58% Gemmed. But actually had negative ROI, why, because of the raw auction prices I had to pay which are overinflated. Just food for thought.
It' is tough out there... I've seen so many crazy auctions. Prospecting seems really down. Bowman 1sts just don't carry like they used to. Good news though, Wyatt Lankford is on a heater right now so you should start seeing some bounce back. I picked him up in fantasy as someone actually dropped him. Thanks again for your transparency, you are a real one. How are you managing your raw? Are you using a card scanner? Also, now much of the market do you think is now on Whatnot that they have auctions & buy it now listings?
25:23 I have said the same. “I make money in cards. I don’t enjoy it like I did. But I’m making money. I have a few ideas to make more. Interested in chatting?
Yeah, ROI seems to be dropping each year as market has fallen dramatically in the past 5 yrs. Add in taxes to be paid, and you can barely making anything (given the amount of money being spent on acquiring inventory). Is it still worth it?
I know this video is a year old, but dont think it aged well. Arena Club is the funnest thing ive done in my 3 years of collecting. They fixed the centering issues, no transactions on trading, marketplace also allows PSA/BGS/SGC slabs. Very good clarity to the buyer as to they got why they got and only $10 to grade and vault. Imo some of the better looking slabs (like more than PSA/BGS/CGC). Slabpacks are kinda meh but can be fun. I usually havent liked my cards but Ive had 0 issue trading them for things I do like. The website could use some QoL improvements but for what it is, incredibly fun and nothing really like it in the community.
Nothing beats the eBay Product Research tool, it's big data for free. If anything, all the other tools probably have backend code that pulls data from eBay.
Just came across your channel, I thought kurts was just to upgrade your card, I have been "cleaning my cards" for years, I just did it for the overall look! I get both sides, and your TLAW RC reference is so true, the old school way of finding raw and grading for a flip is still the best way! However, I do enjoy wiping and cleaning but to get the fingerprints off not to alter! good content!
Gem rates and supply has nothing to do with Michaelis Menten kinetics. The classic Michaelis Menten kinetics plot is rate vs [S] on y and x axes respectively. You have supply (most akin to substrate conc. I guess) on the y and time on the x (at least rate is related to time?). None of the conclusions from this curve make sense. Vmax is where the supply hits an asymptote? Even though its the maximum rate? Are you sure you didnt mean to just draw a curve that reaches an asymptote to argue whatever youre saying about gem rates? Why bring enzyme kinetics into this at all? Unless theres some explanation for all the variables, like PSA is an enzyme that binds substrate (??), using this model makes no sense for predicting gem rate, card value over time, etc.
On your Wemby purple Monopoly 8 on the back when you turned it a certain way the upper left corner looks like it's bent, may have just been the light hitting it a certain way.
Search ISA vs psa on here… people cracked ISA 9 & 8 and sent to psa and got 10s… I have a bunch of ISA slabs… they are no cheap… you went into this with no research bc they’ve been around since 2010… you had a negative outlook going in
Tyler - new to the market. Loved your ISA review. What is your take on the TAG group? Their process of grading is more tech influenced. I'm interested of your thoughts?
You havent been in this hobby a long time, your what in your 30's, I have been in this hobby for over 40 years, now i will admit soaking a card i may not be in favor of, but if you can remove dirt, gum stain fix a corner. I dont see a problem, I predict PSA or Fanatics will either through a 3rd party or themselves, create a cleaning procedure that they will say is safe just so they can control it and say everyone else isnt safe
