I re-read The Stone Diaries this year and really loved it. Did not remember much about it so it was like a new book. I need to get to Brotherless Night soon ( it won the Wome’s Prize and the Carol Shields prize) .
Oh man. Bad literary theory junk we had to read and pretend was interesting in grad school. It takes me back! I reread The Stone Diaries for Remember December and it was wonderful. I love your pretty edition of Sense and Sensibility.
Thanks for the notice of my edition! The intro needs a revision but the novel holds up, in my completely unbiased opinion!! Plot ensues, yes, but more significant will be the characters you encounter.

My copy of The Stone Diaries is on the shelf. I’ve never finished it. I’ve only read about 20%. I highly recommend The Coast Road by Alan Murrin The only Carol Shields I’ve read and like is Unless
Ti Amo by Hanne Ørstavik was in my top 10 reads of 2023. It was my first experience reading her. Absolutely loved it. And now I will definitely follow up with Love.

I totally got the Littlest Hobo reference! I loved that show as a kid. I did watch it on Canadian tv as that was all we could get most of the time in Eastern Maine! Great conversation.
The woman blamed her 9 year old child for being sexually abused by her second husband, who also sexually abused other children. There is a piece in the Toronto Star about it.

An excellent novel about Ukrainian immigrants on the Prairies is Barbara Joan Scott’s “The Taste of Honey.” Three generations of women hack at life. And yes, please bring Sharon Butala back. She is a gem.
Love the blouse in the Irish colours 🇮🇪 💕 I started on a very strong corticosteroidsl inhaler and it has really helped. I still get coughing fits but no where as bad as previously. I’ve started carrying chewing gum and boiled sweets to suck to stop the cough in public. I had fun last night compiling my list of ten best Canadian novels for 100 best Can Lit.
Antepenultimate - I learned a new word! I have loved the word penultimate for many decades, I think because it seems strange and now I am so happy to know antepenultimate. I will be o the lookout for opportunities to use it tomorrow.

Lee’s Laundryman’s Boy sounds so good that I immediately placed a library hold. I was already on the waiting list for Liz Moore’s new novel. Like Lee, I really enjoyed her earlier book, Unseen World, so now I am curious whether I will agree with him that Unseen World is better than God of the Woods.
