The alcohol trick is an absolute game changer, I have done covered ride wrap on on of my bikes before and it was unbelievably painful to get the edges to stick and stop the piece, especially small ones, from moving. Just did the ride wrap tailored on my new bike and it was unbelievably easy compared to how I did it before. Also good to have a heat gun for some pieces, and an insulin syringe to extract any bits you may have missed once it sets

I've noticed you're not making video's any longer. Selfishly I wish you'd start again. These are my go-to video's because of how clear and to the point they are.

Not sure where your from ..But when riding the trails in the US the biker MUST slow to Walking speed when passing others even if the hiker is letting you go buy ...it just makes all mtn bikers look bad when you blaze past them...Please do better!

I love in Santa Cruz and the YETI IS THE DRUG OF CHOICE. SO MUCH MORE NIMBLE AND IT CLIMBS INSANELY AWESOME!!!! NOT TO MENTION ALL I EVER SEE IS SANTA CRUZ AND MAXXIS. THAT MAY SAY SOMETHING BUT I LIKE THE FACT THAT YOU REALLY DONT SEE TOO MANY YETI'S AND THAT MAKES ALL THE MORE SPECIAL. VITTORIA TIRES ROCK TOO!!!! AGARRO AND BARZO. SO.... MY YETI IS RATHER SPECIAL!!!!! NOT MAINSTREAM. I LOVE THAT!!!!

Question - the first shift from the 10t cog to the 12t cog, is it extremely light feeling? On my setup it feels as if half the shift is just taking up cable slack.

225 dollars for those 52T ratchet ? I guess it would be better to buy spank hex drive hubs just spending some more dollars which have 102T and 6 pawls giving 612 POE. win win !

Great bike , rides smooth ru-vid.comUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing .

The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. ru-vid.comUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.

Fantastic vid. Loved it but also underlined why I'll never buy a Yeti. Ease of maintianence is obviously not a primary design principal with the number of unecessaey proprietary tools, all mismatched bearing sizes and duplicated methods of extraction required. RAAW bikes on the other hand are the opposite.

Hi Nick- great review as it shows that modern trail bikes can indeed keep up with the big boys! I'm currently having the chance of buying a showroom 2020 Pivot T429 V2 (the bike you're testing here) at a very good sales price. Do you think this is still a capable bike according to 2023 standards and how does it compare to the New Pivot Trail 429, which seems to be quite different and fully redesigned. I'm primarily riding mountain trails in my region (Pfälzerwald in Germany, comparable more to the US East Coast with lots of roots and rocks, technical bumpy descents, rock gardens) but also the Swiss Alps, also like longer rides of about 40 miles and with fast and bumpy descents. Is the 2029 T429 still very capable of doing this? Thanks a lot and Happy Riding to Vancouver Island!!

No, excess free play anywhere is both sapping & causes damage. Perfection is in the small details, & the synergic effect of "blueprinting", or eliminating imperfections on the whole machine cannot bought. Shim it out, cut your own & get a perfect interference fit by lapping it thinner if required using fine wet & dry paper taped over a sheet of glass. As you don't have to take heat expansion issues into consideration, just the lightest kiss of the mating faces is proper. Retired Caterpillar trained mech.

isopropyl alcohol can be used as an adhesive remover so I don't know if it's the best thing to be using to "quick dry" the edges. Maybe its not as bad diluted 50% but it's just something to consider when you're installing

I appreciate the comments about the stiffness. As a tall rider I am really sensitive to lateral flex. This would steer me away from the IBIS which I had kind of honed in on.

Suspension settings and tires both make a significant difference in efficiency. These suspensions have a range from more Xc to more trail oriented. At a minimum you really should have explained how you had them vs the range so we could see that they were at comparable settings. Also you should have had the same size and model tires on both bikes with the same psi. Also considering how close these two were perceived effort is not very scientific. A power meter pedaled at a static power number on a gravel or paved road would be a much more legitimate way to compare climbing efficiency. I do really appreciate the way you do side-by-side video but as this was done it’s a fairly inaccurate comparison.

Did anyone actually "downgraded" from 36T to 18T and misses the engagement? I'm using the 36T on my road bike. For my folding bike I would love to have something quiter. I love the DT Swiss hubs for being maintenance friendly but they are not exactly quiet.

Thanks for the video! I was super intimidated to ride wrap my bike. I watched your video a couple of times before I tried and your tips were incredibly helpful - especially the iso solution for those final edges. I also did the top tube before the head set which made everything line up perfectly. Many thanks!
