I am new to KDP and just launched my first book. If my budget is $5 per day for Amazon ads and the bid value is about .85 cents to $1 depending on the keyword strategy, that wouldn't allow for a lot of clicks, right? Only about 5 clicks per day? What am I missing?
You're completely right. With amazon ads the more you spend on the right keywords, the faster you can gather data. If your budget is limited, you will still get the same data but it will take much longer. If your conversion rate is around 14%-18% (which is the minimum I aim for) then you should get a sale every 5-6 clicks which can help get your money back :)
I wish I would have found you on RU-vid a couple of months ago. This video provides very helpful information. I "mistakenly" launched my paperback book about two weeks after the e-book. After getting some reviews on the e-book, I thought there might be something to this strategy. Your recommendation to launch the e-book a month before now makes total sense. I wish I would have gotten that advice a month ago. Your confirmation gives me greater confidence on how to manage my next book launch. I'm now a subscriber.

Halloween books are usually the lowest ROI books since they only sell for around 45 days of the year which is why I avoid publishing seasonal books. I prefer evergreen niches. However, I would recommend you publish your book before the month of Halloween (October) and build up reviews to help your sales during October :)
That's a great question. Personally, I would leave the keyword that is spending, pause the other keywords and create another campaign with the paused keywords :)

If you've never done keyword research then you can definitely start doing manual keyword research for free. I have a keyword research video uploaded if you haven't checked it out already :)

Hey Ronald, I'm glad you're finding the videos valuable. If you missed the honeymoon period but you have implemented effective SEO strategies then your book can still grow with the correct ad campaigns and optimizations. If you don't have any reviews then you can republish to take advantage of the honeymoon period but if you have gathered reviews, then they are more valuable than the honeymoon period :)

Hey Barry. I'm new to KDP, but exeprimented in internet marketing... Just wondering... After doing all the basics... I was thinking of listing my e-version in the SELECT program to get 'verified' reviews (5 days/90 days) + ask friend, family and my email list to make 'Verified' reviews during that time + run ads at the same time to get even more 'verified' reviews... while it's free for that 5 days.. What is your take on this method? (I know of review sites, but they are 'Unverified' reviews, time consuming and slow to get.) So IMO if I think about generating my own reviews first as explained above, then comes the sales, more indexation, etc? - Keep up the good work mate!
That's a great question. I will be answering this question more in depth in an upcoming video but the short version, you can do the free strategy to get reviews (wouldn't recommend running ads just to get reviews) and you can also price your book at 0.99 cents to get verified reviews :)

I'm unable to view keywords that are irrelevant to my campaigns- to my product, I can only see all the keywords I selected to run for. Where do I find these keywords to add them to exclude them? I'm talking about keywords ppl are using and not relevant. thank you, this view is great.
You might have not gathered any irrelevant keywords yet. If you've done the correct SEO then the keywords amazon will show you for (If you launch the exact campaign I talk about in the video) should be relevant. Over time when your campaign grows and your budget grows, and you book grows, that's when amazon will start showing you for broader keywords that you might want to negative target :)
My most recent book published yesterday is a fantasy coloring book for adults, $8.99, $2.25 royalty per book. Running this kind of campaign, how many books would I have to sell to break even? I only make $2.25 per book. If I spend $150 a month, that's worse case scenario for $5 a day budget, then I'd have to sell 67 books just to break even. I can't wrap my head around spending $1 per click when you make only $2.25 per book in profit. I can see how this campaign would work in the long run but how long would you have to run it before reaching the break even point? It might be two years down the road before you start making a profit. Am I looking at this right or am I missing something?
Its not about beeing break even at the launch (or the first 2-3 Weeks). Its about climbing up the positions in the listings. Yes you will pay much more as you earn. But after 2-3 weeks you can lower your bids and still stay at the first page of the listing. Then.. then you will start making money. its not about making money in the first 2-4 weeks. Its about getting to the first page on the listing on amazon. When you have reached this its very likely, that you will get more and more organic sales. Today its very very difficult to get into a nische without any ads and without spending money for a launch of a book to be sucessfull. You have to invest money at the start... if your cover is very good and you have some good reviews, the book will sell.

@@aikenpublishing yes.. dont publish several books if you dont have enough money to help them raise in the rankings. For my last coloring book i had a 80 cent (euro) bid on the three most visited keywords for around 20 days. The price i had to pay? Around 200 euro. After this time i reduced my bids by half and after 3-4 weeks more i reduced it again and now my bids are around 20-25 cent depending on the keyword. After around 2 more months i had earned my ad-invest (200€) back and it generates money. Not as much as i wanted but its okay.
@@aikenpublishing Hello Aiken, Yes you should focus on publishing one book if you cant support the start of several books together. I take around 150-200 Euro for the start of one new coloring book. This money is enough to use aggressiv ads the push the book to the first side on 2-3 keywords. But this all does not work if your cover is not good and its more difficult if you dont have at least 2-3 reviews on your book. Last book i published did cost me around 150 Euro in 20 days. But then it was listed on 2 keywords under the top 3 listings and it started to sell organic too. I lowered the bids by around 50%.. and watched if this is enough.. after i saw i can lower the bid again without loosing my rankings i lowered it to 20-25 cent per click. After 2 more months i earned the 150 euro ad-invest back and now i earn money with this book :)

Hi, I don't think this strategy will not work for beginners or new listed books, because when you use broad match amazon will show your ad using every single word you're putting out there, so why I will pay to amazon to show my book to people those who search using "how" only for example? The researcher may be looking for something else! What do you think ?
I find that amazon will use common keywords found in your listing to help target the ads towards the correct search terms. You can also start negative targeting low converting keywords like I talk about in the video to optimize your ads with time :)

You can always use other platforms to direct traffic onto amazon (since you have already created the book listing on amazon) or you can create your own funnel from scratch (Which means way more work)
Your video is the best here on RU-vid! You are passionate about the subject. I have followed you and done as you say. I got the best seller badge, even though I made the same mistake as you to release the Ebook and Paperback at the same time. I removed auto ads and only run manual now as it gives much lower ACOS for it to be profitable in Sweden. Taxes are high here. 30% to Amazon, 50% To Sweden the state. So a little left for me. So the ACOS must be extremely low. I also think it gets better when SEO works that people find organically. I hope you make video about Copywriter.
Hey I appreciate that. I'm always happy to see publishers getting results and I'm so glad you were able to get a best seller badge. I also find that manual ads work better because of how targeted the keywords are compared to auto. I will be making a video on copywriting very soon :)
Great question however there is no real answer. It all depends on your niche. For example I have niches where my high bid is 1.20 while I have other niches where my high bid is 2.15. It all depends on the niche :)
