14:50 That is Crystal Peak, 13,842 ft and a Colorado Centennial (top 100 peaks). 14:20. Now THIS is Peak 10, 13,641 ft and a Colorado Bi-Centennial (top 200 peaks).
Wow, Thanks for the video. I have spent a lot of time on that mountain as a skier and ski instructor from the late 60's to the mid 80's. I actually did that hike to the summit in the summer of 1970. What an experience and, you are right, the view from the summit is absolutely awesome. Brings back a lot of very fond memories.
May I ask what parking lot you were at to take the trail? I read that there is a short steep trail and a 1-mile easy trail. Which trail were you on? Thanks for any help.
I'm thinking of trying to knock out Grays and Torreys as my 2nd and 3rd 14ers in two weeks. We'll be in Winter Park for a family vacation. I want to take Kelso Ridge. Just curious how long it took you to summit?
Ethan, Love this video!! We got to hike Three Lakes Trail August 19, 2023 and watched your video about 6 months afterwards….. brings back great memories and you did such a Great Job in your commentary!! Thanks for sharing your video on TouTube!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
When did I drop trash on the ground and not pick it up? Please show me anything I did that was disrespectful. Cause as far as I can tell all I did was hike to the summit, enjoy myself, and left no trace as I always do.
Thank you for letting me relive some old memories of the time I spent in El Paso TX. This was a different trail.but i enjoyed it a lot. I used to walk all over the tops of the mountains at McCulloughgan canyon I loved climbing around on the rocks and I always had to see what was at the top of the mountain beautiful views standing in one spot I could see two states and two countries all in one view. For this Florida boy it was breathtaking it was a awesome place.
Waco tanks are across the valley of El Paso and yes the Guadalupe Mt's are on the other side of the tanks. That's the way you have to go to visit Carlsbad caverns that's a mind bender
I was there in 1976 and I would hike up to the highest point in McCulligans canyon that was a hike Worth doing but I went up the gulleys and the ridges One ridge was about 4 " wide for about 30 feet and it dropped off on both sides But that was the trail I took when I went up there Man I Loved it.
@@ethanshikingchannel7382 checkout the peaks at over 10 thousand in the Gila if you get a chance. Whitewater Baldy and Mogollon Baldy are pretty close distance to each other and the Gila is stunning! Willow Moutain, sacaton mtn, black mtn all are over 10 thousand
So informative with the views and info about areas of class 3 moves, scrambling and exposure on both routes. I do have a question about the path to the upper trailhead....is that trail exposed or is it relatively safe to navigate in the proper vehicle?
The North Fork trail to Chimney Top is my favorite hike in that area, you should check it out! It's 2.8 miles each way and gains 2000 ft of elevation on the way up leading to an insane overlook over the valley you started from. The North Fork trail actually goes another 20 miles south along the ridge from there and apparently has a lot of similar views along the way although I've only ever hiked it to Chimney Top.
It's about respect. Ask next time before you go. It's a sacred place, a holy place for us. You don't see anyone there because it's only to gather medicine.
Just because it’s sacred to you doesn’t mean we can’t have our own spiritual experiences on the mountain. You may use the land to gather medicine, but we use it to gather spiritual experiences. Neither of our reasons are any less valid, so gatekeeping a whole mountain because of that is quite ridiculous.
@@Phantom_Prospect @Phantom_Prospect It is disrespectful to disregard the basic rule of a tribe of people who have lived there long before Europeans got to the continent. It's not even the whole mountain - as you can see in the video lookout ridge is right there and is the second tallest point in the mountain range. It's not hard to reach out a week beforehand and ask on their website.
I hiked this about two weeks ago with my wife. We watched your video before heading out, and it was a great help. Your enthusiasm really convinced her that we needed to do this hike. We were originally going to do Guadalupe Peak, but 50 mile an hour wind gusts convinced us that that it wouldn’t be safe. McKittrick Canyon was much more sheltered and enjoyable, even though a very strong blast almost knocked us over as we crossed a wash.
Man talking about bringing back some old memories in 1976 a friend took me to this place it was definitely an awesome experience for this Florida boy. Had a blast....
You are so blessed to visit Europe. I was there in 2014. Zermatt Switzerland is amazing. I love your adventurous spirit. So happy for you to have these experiences. Thanks for sharing them on YT.
I lived in Portland in the 90"s and hiked all over from Forest Park ridge and over to Rocky & Powell Butte...there is so much beauty to experience there.
