I’m Marissa! A mom to 2 boys and I’m passionate about budgeting for our family!
My husband and I got married right out of college and had $87,000 of student loan debt. We had dreams for our future which included having a house and a family and we knew we couldn't do it all with so much debt. So we decided to start a budget and make some sacrifices, and within 2.5 years, we became debt-free! Since then, we've saved for an emergency fund, upgraded our cars and bought a house all thanks to budgeting.
I love budgeting because it gives you the permission to spend on things that are important to you all while still working on your financial goals. Here on my channel I share budgeting tips to help you feel confident in your ability to balance life and money.
Just curious, for your "income section", you do use the money that you and your husband made in the prior month or are you basing it on your projected income? We're self-employed and I'm trying to figure out the best way to budget. Thankfully, we're personally debt-free but do have a trailer loan for our business (we own a trucking business and having a trailer is a necessity).
If you have time to "call" people out about their life style. Besed on minimal information. You have too much time on your hands and should probably invest more energy into your own life. PS Thanks for your advice.
I knew rates would lower with the fed cutting rates. But high yield savings accounts are still going to be earning you 10x the average national rate! You’re still much better off keeping your emergency fund here than in a regular bank earning you pennies. 😊
Yes. The rate is not locked in and is impacted by the federal funds rate which has recently been lowered. Buy a HYSA will always be paying significantly more than a standard bank account.
Our electric bill is crazy high and this just made me realize that! I live in California and it’s hot in the summer but it should not be $700 a month! I need to look into this 😅
@@TheBudgetingWife Definitely upper middle class like yes you’re not living in a mansion rich but having money to save for college funds vacations etc having money left over after bills I exaggerated but to me that’s “rich” you know what I mean? Especially compared to the majority of Americans these days it’s just really fortunate.
Thanks Marissa! Love these! Im curious though how do you keep track of how much you have in each category and how much youre spending, especially when on the go?!

Great job! I’ve been following for years in my personal account and I’m so impressed with your ability to keep filming with three kids. I literally just started and I’m struggling to plan, film, edit etc during my lunch breaks and weekend naps with just one toddler. Also I saw another comment that was judgey about Christmas sinking fund, forget them. The whole point of sacrificing was so you can spend on the things you want, so go big for Christmas ❤
So exciting that you started your channel!! Unfortunately I'm not as active here as I used to be. I wish I could film more but it is hard to balance! Getting an hour a week to film and edit helps me so much! And thank you. I totally agree. :)
We haven't been saving for Christmas all year. So saving for just a few months here. Especially as Prime Day is in October if we find something that would be great for a Christmas gift.
Dear Marissa, I have watched both your new and old videos and they are all great :) . There is one video which really touched me. That is the one from late 2022 where you were crying when your husband lost his job. Out of kindness and as a kind update I want to ask you if you are happy and smiling today 😊😊😊😊? For the same reasons, I also want to ask if your husband is doing good these days 😊😊😊😊 and if the sponsor kids in Rwanda were able to continue having funds from someone 😊😊😊😊 Being happy is what makes everybody else happy and is the healthiest thing in life 😃
You're so kind!! I am so grateful that we are where we are right now with our finances. That we made it through that short storm and are doing well finanically. And we still support our sweet kids in Rwanda! Thanks so much for thinking of us!
@@TheBudgetingWife You’re more than welcome😊 I think you are also very kind 😃 I’m so happy you and everybody is doing well 😃 This will really help me to think positive when tough moments happen and with being optimistic in life :)
I love how you color code your high yield savings funds. I always have a hard time tracking stuff like that, after logging in and checking all my other accounts Im over it LOL. I might have to incorporate your color code method for that🥰
Wow $300 towards 529s sounds really good for me especially since you’re starting soon as they’re born. We’re investing less than $100 per month in 529s 😞
Congratulations! I had mine in January this year i was there 2 days, the only one there the entire 2 days. It was so eerie but apparently that was not busy baby season lol.
It'll be an issue for your child in the future when they go to collect your life insurance, retirements, get executor of your estate, etc. I just went through all of this with my two uncles and my grandmother as I inherited all three of their estates, investments, retirements, life insurance policies and unpaid compensation. They wanted the birth and death certificates of every single one of the family members and my brother's name was wrong on my uncle's death certificate and so was his relationship to my uncle. They put that he was his nephew, and in reality, he is his step nephew, so because of that, the courts kept thinking that my brother was biologically related to my dad's side of the family when he is not, and they wanted my brother's birth certificate, but it obviously didn't match my family records, so we had to get it fixed because it messed with the estate process with the court system.
I made alot of $$ in my 20s, wasted it all and was miserable. Quit and became a SAHM in my 30s. Did my masters and worked part time from home. Just turned 40 and I'm broke but happy. Trying to rebuild my life again.
