This is a channel for me to showcase some of my wood turnings and to share what I've learned so far. This is by no means a training channel, as I am still in the process of learning myself.
Well, here we go.... I hope you enjoy watching my videos. Thanks! :)
This may sound silly but you kind blew my mind hollowing out first then carving the outside to bring the thickness down. Makes so much sense and always a risk hollowing from the inside to a weakened carved outer part (forgive my crude explination, I am a newbie to this). Long story short thanks for the inspiration to try a new approach, wondering why a lot more other people don't approach it this way. Hollowing seems the place youd have catastrphic failure so doing it first before a lot of other work happens just makes so much sense from that angle as well! :)
Ha.....I'm 5 years late on this, but would love to make the top and Launcher. Launcher is clear, did you happen to make a video on the turning of the top itself? I love that design and wish I had more details.
Really like the idea here. Cuts out one of the traditional gluing steps. A real time saver with the same results. I hope mine turns out as well as yours.
Normally I would not even continue watching a video clip with such overwhelming ‘music’, to me it is just an annoying distraction, especially I suspect for us older guys. You narration is lost in the ‘music’, and so often the comments contain vital gems of information. That aside, I love your creations, very inspiring and thank you for sharing your presentations. Please take my first comments as constructive feedback to help your presentations. Kind Regards from Tasmania, the land down under. Stay safe.
The small vase or whatever it is turned out fabulous. But I don't care for you talking when you sped up the video, it makes you sound like a cartoon character.
Well, if its any consolation, I don't care for my speaking voice at all. LOL Plus, when it really comes right down to it, I sometimes feel like a cartoon character. I'll try to work on that if I ever get back to making videos. Thank you for the feedback, Robert. Cheers.
Good video of a nice little project. Thx. Suggestion: Your music is way too loud. It gets in the way. It's hard to hear what your are saying at times. Your fine turning is the feature here. 😉
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you like the ornament. This was one of my earlier videos and I didn't get the audio balanced quite right. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about it as the files were all destroyed with our house when it burned down a few years ago.
@@dbird1356 Thank you so much. I'm glad to have inspired you. Please, be careful though. My techniques aren't exactly "safe", and I would encourage you to use caution if you are relatively new or at all uncomfortable. Although I am not usually seen wearing proper safety equipment such as a face shield, I would strongly recommend it, especially when doing things like off-center turning, or altering the configuration of your chuck. Thanks for watching! Take care!
Really liked this video. Turning a simple project will put a smile on your face. PSA to all wood turners. If you can get your hands on any fruit tree wood, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve used apple, pear, plum and sour cherry. They’re all different but beautiful. Check local orchards. The one near me sells limbs they’ve pruned off for $5 for a good size box. The boxes usually contain crotches and interesting pieces. 😎👍
I tried making the launcher. It doesn't work quite like yours. There must be some nuances to the design, or the way the string wraps around the top? Could you please explain that???
Nice but I think the TREE is a little big for the opening. Good Idea. I do like it but not a good Idea to do that with LONG SLEEVE SHIRTS, I hope you still have your arm. :0 I was watching this in Dec 2019.
I just discovered your channel. I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope you have started to put your life back together. My thoughts to you and your family this holiday season.
