I love how you and your guests stories really portray the underworld in an authentic way. Its something thats so often mimicked in media but its different when you lived it and came out the other side. This podcast is still so slepped on. Keep at it with this beautiful format and the audience will be sure to grow.
Constructive criticism: ask and listen .... don't ask, talk about yourself, talk more about yourself, half-listen, interrupt, ask, half-listen, interrupt, talk about your past, talk more about yourself ,etc, let us learn about the guest, don't psychoanalyze the guest, let the viewer do that. Look at your interview with Mark Gagnon. That's my favorite podcast you did. He asked questions and listened, he gave you free rein to tell your story.
I was hoping you were wrong. So I watched all the way through. JC is actually an interesting dude. I've seen his pod and other interviews before. I was hoping to hear more about how one can turn our life situations around. And that only came at the very last minute.
The "Impending Doom" is the best way I've found and many others who've experienced those horrific feelings describe it. It's like a panic attack and steroids, especially the first one. Ed is absolutely correct. WebMD will have you DOA while you're reading. Prior to therapy and understanding the sh1t show going on, i had convinced myself I had cancer, a brain tumor or was having a AAA, plus usually assuming stroke or heart attack. Thank you for both being so open about this stuff. Anyone whose lived it and feels alone needs to hear it. Many people will "check out" feeling alone and helpless. Knowing you're not alone and there is help is huge. I know it was for me.
Been following you for a while ed, and I have to admit initially the visuals of some of your earlier podcasts turned me off just a bit. The production quality here now is incredible!
Again amazing interview. The end really hit home on Ed saying about training others can bring up the past. I feel that. I experienced it at a low light medical course a few weeks ago and had my first wave of the past hit me hard while showing others those skills. Radio chatter, red lights, etc.. and boom it all flooded over me. It was not a good feeling and needed to process while still being a good teacher for the students. The ride home I was still shaking it off the first hour. Thankfully I was surrounded by good peope on our team who understood that experience and helped me process afterwards. Prior to Ed saying this, i didn't think I'd ever discuss this outside of those people. Thank you.
Amazing podcast. Hearing the discussion on actually making the blade, the time that goes into it is something that is so overlooked by many. The discussion on sheaths are something rarely thought about by anyone who isn't deep in the way of the knife. Great interview and discussion on the blade, Sonny Umpad and just about Dan's history from tracker school in the Pines to how he became SEAL, then a maker. This is saved to listen to again in the shop. 🔥
The points on security in survival is oberlooked by a vast majority of these schools teaching bushcraft type skills. Security is extremely important be it in wilderness survival to active threat/high threat medical care. If youre unable or unwilling to stop a threat, everything else is out the window. You now become one more casualty in a MassCas event. Refusing to protect yourself boggles my mind, lack of skill but willingness is one thing but the blindspot pacifists types have is mind blowing. I can't imagine standing by while someone hurts people i love or myself. I can say 4-5 months in the Pines is got to wear on you. I've sheath camped and hiked the Pine Barrens multiple times for a week or more. That was way more intense with the canopy even compared to Appalachian mountains in PA. Natural supplies are way more limited and without knowledge of the area's, it's very easy for someome to walk in circles
The Tracker book pre-internet was an amazing resource. I remember my first failures of the bow drill. That first smoke was truly an unreal experience. I'm shocked this is podcast doesn't have 10x the followers. The guests and indepth knowledge is something any of us in this space can learn something from. Great meeting in NY and thank you for your feedback on the knives.
