Thanks for this video. I’d have loved to hear if the high filter and low filter on the RE27 combine to make something more like the RE20’s stock sound. All in all, I can’t get away from loving the RE20 (especially on Saxaphone in a live context)

I saw an assembly video that had the person remove that tiny Pin on the mounting post of the 320 as he said it prevent to attach it flush in the mount. Is that correct????

9:30 This is perhaps the most important part! The 27 with 3rd switch sounds best, returning to the 20, it sounds less clear

Suena feo como un mp3 de la mas baja calidad. No vale la pena usar tan buenos microfonos si después falla la transferencia del audio al video

The RE320 sounds very similar to the RE20 with the kick drum curve engaged. Makes it sound flatter and fuller sound. Gets rid of the overly bright condenser sound of the RE320 without the switch. Could be kind of a cheat code to buy the cheaper RE320, but still have very similar sound to the RE20. Does anyone agree?

Hi Rick 😎 What happens when BOTH bass roll-off switches are angaged at the same time? I'd expect even more bass roll-off, but that's not the case. So I'm curious! 🤓

Thank you so much for making this video and keeping it on youtube. I just ordered a RE20 in black with the 309A shock mount and wanted to get some tips on putting it all together for my new desk set up.

Hmmmm. Sounds like the RE20 is still the best mic for Livestreaming when it comes to speaking and singing into a mic as well as recording guitar and bass cabinets.

You say that the vents on the mics should not be covered, I'm using a WSPL-2 pop filter and it covers the top five vents and only the bottom three are shown, is this an issue?

No, not a problem. The foam will let the sound-waves pass.

I recently bought RE 20, which was made in Burnsville, Minnesota. Than I watched some reviews and found out that on the most of the microphone it is written Variable-D and dynamic cardioid and on my microphone there is nothing. I would like to know if there is any difference between the microphones with the writing and without. Is my microphone old or new made? I am not sure if there are going to be any difference with the sound quality of the microphone. Thank you very much for your time.

Hello Rick, I am thinking to buy RE 20 , but I saw that on some of the microphones it says variable-D and some of them do not have it. I would like to know if there is any difference between those microphones? The one that I am interested is made in Burnsville, Minnesota and it doesn't say variable-D on it.

I ordered a replacement grip directly from Bosch parts to replace a cracked/broken grip on my EV N/D757B. The old grip felt like it is a more rigid plastic-type material, while the replacement part is a softer more rubber-like material, but I'm guessing that may be the result of the age of the mic (purchased Dec 1997). The new part number I was sent is Part F.01U.110.242. My issue is with installing the new grip: In your video, the replacement easily slid onto the end of the mic, while the part I have seems a touch too small because it gets totally stuck after sliding about 1/2 of the way on the mic. I was barely able to pull it back off. After doing so, I compared the size of the two ends of the new part to the old one and they appear to be the same. Its the lengthwise internal strips that must be a bit tighter. I was wondering if immersing the new grip in warm water might soften it a bit so that it would stretch to fit down onto the bottom of the mic, or perhaps you can recommend a more appropriate technique. I called the tech support number you posted below. The support tech told me that since the mic is no longer manufactured, there are no replacement grips and that I must have been sent a grip for a new model mic. He woud not connect me with you or offer any other suggestion.

Great video comparison and perfect timing. I just purchased what I thought was the RE20 but I actually ordered the RE320 by accident and was going to return it immediately. However after watching this video I've decided that the RE320 may just be the better choice for me. I intend to use it for voice with my RU-vid review videos as well as possibly podcasting.

It’s produced by the modial interaction of magneto-reluctance and capacitive diractance. The original machine had a base plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing.

Interesting. At 'flat' settings, the RE20 delivers a slightly brighter tone color as distance increases, whereas the RE27ND delivers a slightly darker tone color as distance increases. Don't get me wrong. the 'Variable D' design is very good. But, there are those noticeable differences. VERY interesting effects with distance using the switches on the RE27ND. I own an EV RE 20. I am very pleased with the mic. It yields beautiful recordings of varying voices and instruments. Finally, I must say that Rick gets it spot-on: "The RE27ND will be brighter and more powerful. The RE20 will be smoother and warmer."

I prefer the RE-20, since I'm looking for that "radio" sound from spoken word. What is more difficult to decide between is the Electro-Voice RE-20 verses the Sure SM7B.

I just bought the 20. Have been using 320s for a multi-person podcast. Bought a SM7 just cuz I had to hear it. I like it for singing, but not for broadcast. Two dislikes - too "middy" & not robust on the low end and you really have to stay in one position once the gain is set. The variable D is for real and more forgiving when you're paying attention to conversation and not working the mic. Take the EV... Better broadcast sound and easier to just talk.
