It’s produced by the modial interaction of magneto-reluctance and capacitive diractance. The original machine had a base plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing.

FAN-TASTIC! I've got an re-20 and re-16 and LOVE them. Thank you for the explanations; I always wondered what the "D" stood for - DISTANCE! Of course...

Yes, and this an important feature. However, we don't want to confuse proximity with tone. There is a proximity effect that changes the amplitude of the signal but the TONE of the speaker etc., remains almost the same. I still believe there is a rise in the bass end and perhaps even midrange close up. I would like to see an actual curve where I could see the various effects visually say from pink/white noise etc., to see the boost/cut and the various effects tonally if there are any.

Great explanation. Just technical enough for us geeky types, but not so much that we fall asleep. Didn't EV feature some mikes with "Single-D" construction for folks who really did like that low-end boost?

I think that single D was used on PA microphones like the 664 and the 676 !!!

Hello Rick, I am thinking to buy RE 20 , but I saw that on some of the microphones it says variable-D and some of them do not have it. I would like to know if there is any difference between those microphones? The one that I am interested is made in Burnsville, Minnesota and it doesn't say variable-D on it.

Does the RE320, like the RE20 and the PL20 use foam within the body of the Microphone?

Yes, I'd like to know that as well.

You say that the vents on the mics should not be covered, I'm using a WSPL-2 pop filter and it covers the top five vents and only the bottom three are shown, is this an issue?
@Tazmanian_Ninja
@Tazmanian_Ninja Год назад
No, not a problem. The foam will let the sound-waves pass.

Thank you!! Excellent. I doubt that you are still following this but I am wondering how to get a warm deep voice but with the mic outside of the scene while doing video as your do. Thanks.

Acoustic treatment of the room, and a good shotgun mic or lavalier (shirt) mic.

No you're not tripping. It's definitely there.

Very slight. You could argue that's its volume rather than tone.

I just bought an RE-20 and it has a buzzing. Is that normal??
@JunkBondTrader
@JunkBondTrader 3 года назад
no that's not normal. What interface or preamp are you using? If it's a cheaper one, you _might_ need more gain. You don't need a new interface though. You can achieve this by using an inline gain booster. It attaches to the mic XLR port, and then you run a XLR cable from that, to the interface. The cloudlifter and fet head are popular, but way overpriced. I recommend the more recent SE DM1. It's half the price, and works JUST as well. Not close to as good, it's just as good. I like it better than the cloudlifter actually, it's more transparent. That will give you enough gain to sound great with any interface because you can then turn the interface way down, as the preamps won't have to work as hard, and will be less quiet. The buzzing is likely from your interface needing to be cranked too high to get enough volume, and cheaper interface preamps are noisier than others. Of course there can be other causes, like loose chords, mic defect, interference from other devices, but the RE20 with proper power should introduce zero audible background noise. Oh, the DM1 costs around $100-150, fyi. The RE20 is excellent though, hope you figure it out! Cheers.

@@JunkBondTrader Hey thanks for your reply. I actually ended up returning the mic. I had it hooked to a MixPre 3 II and a Mogami XLR cable so I think we can rule those out as causes. so it comes down to either mic defect or interference,but I suspect it was the former, I read elsewhere that this is a common issue with some of the recently manufactured RE-20s. So yeah, I decided to return it. Ended up going for a boom for my desk setup which has the advantage of not being in the frame for Zoom calls & youtube vids.

Rick, good evening. I 've got an RE 20 and i want to put it on a table top mic stand. Everything I've tried the RE20 just starts to fall because of it's weight. Any solutions to this? Thanks, Lawton Chiles
@SteveCarroll2011

Add some weight to the base
@JunkBondTrader
@JunkBondTrader 3 года назад
Get stronger mounts. I got a Samson boom arm on Amazon for aroundf $100.. A bit pricey, but it works really well, you can move the mic around easy, and it easily supports the weight.

"Defies the laws of physics" and "magic technology" generally aren't the terms one uses when giving a tech talk about a mic.
