I cannot thank you enough! I just had to leave my house for a job interview and exactly the same issue, unplugged the blue connector and the car fired right up! Thank you so much!!!!!
You are right!!! Thank you sir!!! Amend!!! Disconnect should be fine. This is what I call over engineering causing all kind of issues. And BMW charging $450cad for the part. I have done so much research. People just disconnect the IBS. And running like normal. I was stranded so many times, so many inconvenience. Spend many hours troubleshooting this issues. Replace the 1 yr old battery with the new one cost $350cad and had to register the battery and clear the code for ELV and CAS using INPA. The issue came back, finally I had enough, just disconnect the blue wire, problem solve.
Great video ~ what did you use to cut the plastic duct at the bottom of the blower area? Also , was the shift knob on the whole time? That seems like a lot of work to remove according to another youtube video.. Great Idea.
I was fighting for an hour just to get the screws out of the resistor reaching through the hole of the glove box!! 😅 Unfortunately, the internet was out on my phone. 2 hours later, my internet's back and I find your video!! Thank you, now I'm going to try it the easy way! 😅
Beautiful! Thank you sir. My wife's car was stuck in her friend's driveway, and thanks to your research and video we were able to get it moved right as her dad was pulling up to park
Hello Robert I know this is an old post. I just wanted to give you a sincere THANK YOU!! Your video is a lifesaver and absolutely the truth. I loved the piece of slicing the vent and sliding it back in talk about timesaver is not the word. Anyone else watching this..Robert is spot on point here U DO NOT have to dismantle this car to make this repair! Follow what he did and u will be fine finished mines this morning and it’s working absolutely perfect! I am very happy got quotes on this job from 850-1200+ super ridiculous hence why it was not working for a couple years LOL. I am not a mechanic just a guy that doesn’t mind picking up a tool. So if are like that u can do this job for certain and save yourself plenty of money. Again Rob 💯 💯 💯 on this one!!
My car Z4 E89, one day fine, next no start. Code says it's hall sensor key slot fault, but tried a 2nd hand replacement and both keys, still the same. Code reader gave out historical battery charge, day before fail, 99%, now 39%. Something drained battery. So now fully charged. Still no start. I will disconnect the ibs tomorrow just see what happens.
Brilliant video. I've gotten that High Battery Drain light and wondered about it. My battery is on its way out so I'm replacing it but I'm keeping that IBS trick stored in the vault in case I still have issues. Thanks for taking the time!
I assume you are talking about the mounts at 10:36 in the video? They just clip in, does the one in the video look the same? Unfortunately it’s been too long since I’ve done the stuff for me to remember if my mount was loose or not I don’t have any problems though wish I could be further assistance.
IBS basically is a negative battery terminal with a computer on the end of it. A malfunction can cause several problems, including the fuel pump engaging every 15 seconds, even when the car isn't running, thus draining the battery.
Thanks for the video. I have a problem I put a new battery in and the car was sitting for a month a the battery died.now I'm buying an oem and hope for the best
Thank you for the video mine's starting to make that cricket sound and also the blowers giving me issues now I know where to locate it thank you so much for the video very helpful
perfect job bro that so wonderful for me at time iam working electric car for my jops just high beam is no power + if the card no extract signals thats mean same problem but this car is 2001 pls same resistance???
I'm replacing the battery AND the IBS on a 2017 F15 X5 (the bad IBS caused the battery to be flattened out several times). Those IBS are also affecting newer BMW.
Having similar issue with my 03 Explorer, same engine it seems. Only thing is I feel like an idiot cause I followed videos for different types of valves (the grooves sat higher) and took off the camshaft to use the keeper removal tool. Praying to God I don't mess up the timing, but I'll need to follow your method here. Thanks!
I was told by the dealership that replacing the battery but having a battery drain (caused by faulty IBS) could flatten a battery enough times to have a battery only a few days or weeks old to be replaced. Basically a bad IBS is battery killer.
@@Scotford_Maconochie The battery charging system with an IBS is supposed to make batteries last longer and they probably do but when the IBS is disconnected I believe the charging system reverts to the old way of the voltage regulator in the alternator doing all the work. That basic system mite shorten the life of a battery compared to the IBS system but its my belief that it’s not a drastic difference. After I disconnected the IBS sensor on my car that battery lasted for over a year and I can’t remember how old it was prior to that. In the end do what you think is best. My comments are just opinions
@@Nobobs62 the mechanic found that "transport mode" having switched itself on for unknown reasons and was causing the battery to go flat repeatedly. At first I thought it was the weather to blame since it's been hovering around -15°F here for a few weeks. Still I replaced the OE battery that was less than 4 years old for another OE battery of the same spec, the IBS and had a battery maintainer installed as preventive measure. Once "transport mode" was disabled using an OE scan tool, the battery keep its charge since. Problem solved!
Is it the same part number for both sides? Also my exterior lights (headlights, sides lights, and tailights) are stuck on would you happen to know what the transistor number for that is? I know this is 10 years later, but would appreciate the help!
I don't have a schematics anymore or the service manual but I would assume that the left is the same as the right highbeam. That's pretty weird to have all those lights on at the same time but that module does control them all I have no idea about the other part numbers sorry
@@Nobobs62 No worries. Thanks anyways! I’m gonna check relays for the headlights, but the transistor for both high beams are gone. I replaced the stalk for the high beams and that didn’t work.
@@Nobobs62 yes, that’s what I was thinking too. My brain went straight to wiring instead of checking the relays as well 😂😂 sometimes complex thinking is a gift and other times it isn’t.
Bro your a straight up angel!! I’m going through this problem right now. Bmw said 486 with terminal and adapter. I jus replaced the positive battery terminal it was $420 now the negative terminal gave out this morning. Drove to drop off my uhaul because I was moving turned off the car went to start and didn’t want crank. Accessories and all came on no sound no crank to start tho
@@Nobobs62 the negative terminal for the Ibs is what sends current to the starter if it was my starter it would have tried to crank and turn over its did the no crank no start like in the description and like 2 months ago I jus replaced the positive battery cable so I’m sure the negative went out
@@Nobobs62 starter! 😂😂😂😂😂 you right it’s going to the shop Monday cuz I don’t have time to work on it I work 6-12s so it’s gunne be there for a day or two saves me my muscle strain tho
After I was watching your video it's save 2 hours for shortcut. I did it yesterday & it's take me almost 4 hours and atleast save $ 400 for me. Thanks again.
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think so. My thought would be it's one of the front wheel speed sensors. My 97 528i went into limp mode when the passenger side front sensor went out
Thank you Rob It is the rights time to see this video, my 2006 550i can't start even everything is on but no crank, no start, i spent 3hours to booster but same thing, i give up and come back next day and it start, until 4 days later it happens again. I hear so many ideas until i Watch this video, i do exactly what you did it works, i hope it solved problem, thanks. Very good experience, God bless you
Thanks for the video, great stuff. Would a similar repair be required for an issue that leavers indicator/turn lights on (indicator stalk has been replaced but problem remains)?
Hey man, thanks for the video! I had the same problem (with my BMW 2007 525i),but after plugging off the IBS, it's running pretty cool! I was wondering, will it be a problem in the future if I won't replace it (just drive like this for couple months)?
The IBS allows the charging system to make the battery last longer by efficient charging with this disconnected it goes back to an old school regulator system which is supposed to shorten the life of the battery I didn't find that on mine but it could. That's the only thing I know that changes when that IBS is disconnected
Sounds like the draw is real. You need to isolate system to figure out the cause. When the car is not being used for a while stay overnight pull fuses to isolate a system may help.
Thank you Robert for the video. Thank goodness that things posted on the web never disappear, your video has helped me a lot. Recently went through the whole process of replacing a battery, registering etc and a few weeks later still getting low voltage warning on screen. Even got water pump, thermostat (only 10k old) and blower fan error and several accessories not functioning power windows, folding mirror. Always suspected a power failure or bad reading somewhere, but never had the confidence to disconnect IBS. I did, cleared the codes then everything started working normally. BMW 335i N54 2008 - I love to hate it , and I hate that I love it.
@@gregpalumbo2503 I did replace the battery about two or more years later. I did because one cell was going bad and it was under warranty. So to be honest I really don't think not having the IBS sensor in there did it but it is possible. I sold the BMW about a year ago.
