You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. You have my sincere appreciation. This fixed for my 2004 645Ci the high battery drain fault, and the transmission fault ( giving me only gears 1 to 3 ) . Before i would have to make damn sure my battery was fully charged and do a transmission reset to clear the transmission fault, sometimes it would often take multiple resets. The code was active on the car, i unplugged the IBS and the car drives as it should , Full gears, no codes. These faults have left me stranded afew times also. So thank you for this video. Five stars my friend , five stars.
THANKS SOOOO MUCH for this video, u save my life, I have the same issue with my bmw 328. Like 5 days before the issue start I have to set time and hours like 3 time it was weird to my and thet the day 6 the car don't stat at all, I did the same thing u done and pum it started, thank man for the vid andGOD BLESS.
I had the exact same problem on my 2007 550i. went to mc Donalds came back out and no start. I un plugged the battery and re connected and boom she fired up! then went to sons school and no start again.did the battery un plugged and no go. had the car towed home next morning bought a new battery and no go......and same as you 24 hours later decided to un plug ibs plug.and car fires up!!! drove for 5 months like that and sold it. It's funny how people think alike lol great video.!!
Hey thanks for the comment. I think this is not an uncommon problem that is very frustrating and very expensive for a lot of people. It was very easy to troubleshoot once you know what to do. The part that gets me the most is that this system was designed to save battery power but designing the system to shut down the starting circuit makes no sense what so ever!
Hello my car is not doing that but the it losing battery power fast and it gives me the same message. It just doing that last night, so I'm going to disconnect that blue wire too.. thank you
IBS basically is a negative battery terminal with a computer on the end of it. A malfunction can cause several problems, including the fuel pump engaging every 15 seconds, even when the car isn't running, thus draining the battery.
Thank you Rob It is the rights time to see this video, my 2006 550i can't start even everything is on but no crank, no start, i spent 3hours to booster but same thing, i give up and come back next day and it start, until 4 days later it happens again. I hear so many ideas until i Watch this video, i do exactly what you did it works, i hope it solved problem, thanks. Very good experience, God bless you
Wow great video, very detailed! Had this issue this morning, wish I had seen your video earlier. After much time and effort with a voltage meter discovered that the ibs was the problem. Disconnected it, and she fired right up. It's been raining for 2 weeks here, and of course water leaked in the trunk. Smh
(07 530xi) Thank you so much! I was having the high battery drain, increased battery drain, dead battery, etc... unplugged the ibs sensor and everything is good to go... even my check engine light went out and my car runs better. Thank you so very much for this video, god bless!
Glad the video helped and thank you for providing what issues you were having. The IBS can cause so many problems. Just be sure a check the battery periodically to make sure there is no real drain on the battery.

"even my check engine light went out and my car runs better" Very interesting. I've read somewhere the IBS may send wrong infos to all the module controls in the car, thus causing to run bad. Should be called "MBS" for "moronic battery sensor"...
Brilliant video. I've gotten that High Battery Drain light and wondered about it. My battery is on its way out so I'm replacing it but I'm keeping that IBS trick stored in the vault in case I still have issues. Thanks for taking the time!
Wow. Absolutely amazing thank you for your post. I have a 06 BMW 325i and my car would not start. I disconnected the blue wire and boom, it started. Thanks again😁😁😁
Beautiful! Thank you sir. My wife's car was stuck in her friend's driveway, and thanks to your research and video we were able to get it moved right as her dad was pulling up to park
You are right!!! Thank you sir!!! Amend!!! Disconnect should be fine. This is what I call over engineering causing all kind of issues. And BMW charging $450cad for the part. I have done so much research. People just disconnect the IBS. And running like normal. I was stranded so many times, so many inconvenience. Spend many hours troubleshooting this issues. Replace the 1 yr old battery with the new one cost $350cad and had to register the battery and clear the code for ELV and CAS using INPA. The issue came back, finally I had enough, just disconnect the blue wire, problem solve.
Thanks very nice video I'm having issues with my (2008) bmw 750li no start battery discharged The battery is (1) year old AGM very expensive too I paid at the dealer $557 I don't know what is the problem is it a automatic car wash that did. when i open the door and insert the key in to the ignition the flywheel start turning by itself without starting kind of a grinding noise some they say it's power control module and some say VVT. / BST BMW electronics no good. too many sensors for nothing. Sound system that logic 7 no sound in the speakers recharge battery . I did install a new battery from my wife (Mercedes Benz S500) 2005 but that did not work again recharge battery. My (2004) BMW 750li Is running fine i don't want touch that one. I like the way you show the BST cable again nice video thanks
i know Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb lost my login password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
@Jaxxon Leighton I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Thank you so much for the tip. after getting a technician working on the car for two hours and couldn't find the pro which was The IBS . fixed it in 5 sec...keep it up.
Hi my 2007 525i """ At times when I crank it " it shows a gold key somemetimes a circle when driving with a triangle symbol inside also while driving my car begin rumbling sound from seemingly the vents areas and under car " radio and air pause "start pause start back repeats it again with gold circle with triangle symbol shows again car slows a lll bit when I get to destination put in park push start button to cut off car goes dead without cutting the car off """ my God my doors would not unlock my key would not release from ignition all power shut off """ could not get out "" sit there about 5 or more min power came back on as I press the auto start button that's scary and dangerous especially if there is a fire """ help please
Another symptom of the IBS lead failure is various systems start to shut down. I've had it where the radio / idrive would not work on position 1 on the ignition. i.e the ignition is not on fully but just at the first (what we used to call) accessory setting. Put ignition on so the dash lights up (not starting the car, and the radio would b fine. The AC / heater blower would only work to it's 2nd speed and no faster. And it dips to its lowest speed if the car sees another power drain. if I hit the brakes, as soon as the brake lights illuminate, the blower dips to speed 1. And it was slightly slow to crank. Never failed to start, just slightly slower. Disconnected the IBS lead and hey presto. Radio and blower all back to normal and spins over perfectly when starting. Why oh why do they build pointless systems into cars that serve little purpose than to break down over time and give issues???? Great video by the way.
Thanks for the comment Trev! I get the purpose of the IBS, save battery, but I'm totally baffled as to why these great German engineers would let the IBS effect the car start system! Thankfully the did design it to were the system can be disabled.
very helpful. just try to keep the camera from moving so much, it gives me a headache. Try a steady tripod, and use tools or fingers to point at the area you're referencing. other than that, really good content.
Bro your a straight up angel!! I’m going through this problem right now. Bmw said 486 with terminal and adapter. I jus replaced the positive battery terminal it was $420 now the negative terminal gave out this morning. Drove to drop off my uhaul because I was moving turned off the car went to start and didn’t want crank. Accessories and all came on no sound no crank to start tho
@@Nobobs62 the negative terminal for the Ibs is what sends current to the starter if it was my starter it would have tried to crank and turn over its did the no crank no start like in the description and like 2 months ago I jus replaced the positive battery cable so I’m sure the negative went out
@@Nobobs62 starter! 😂😂😂😂😂 you right it’s going to the shop Monday cuz I don’t have time to work on it I work 6-12s so it’s gunne be there for a day or two saves me my muscle strain tho
Thanks a lot was great Imagine how much it would have cost you at BMW dealership . another way they design car to make money after sale ,they could made it they way car would start but check engine on but this way no one would take it to dealership
Hey man, thanks for the video! I had the same problem (with my BMW 2007 525i),but after plugging off the IBS, it's running pretty cool! I was wondering, will it be a problem in the future if I won't replace it (just drive like this for couple months)?
The IBS allows the charging system to make the battery last longer by efficient charging with this disconnected it goes back to an old school regulator system which is supposed to shorten the life of the battery I didn't find that on mine but it could. That's the only thing I know that changes when that IBS is disconnected
I have a 535d m sport with alternater regulater problems unplugged these 2 wires and presto no problems no warning s car flying but I will put a new alternater on it to be sure
Thank you Robert for the video. Thank goodness that things posted on the web never disappear, your video has helped me a lot. Recently went through the whole process of replacing a battery, registering etc and a few weeks later still getting low voltage warning on screen. Even got water pump, thermostat (only 10k old) and blower fan error and several accessories not functioning power windows, folding mirror. Always suspected a power failure or bad reading somewhere, but never had the confidence to disconnect IBS. I did, cleared the codes then everything started working normally. BMW 335i N54 2008 - I love to hate it , and I hate that I love it.
Hey sorry for late reply. I did replace it about a year ago I think. The voltage was fine but seemed a little weak. Testing said one cell was going bad. It was still under warranty so they exchanged it. Did the lack of IBS cause this? Could be. Could also have been just a flaw in the battery. My thought on it is just a flaw in the battery. I sold the car a few months ago. So I won't have any more data.
I have 08 528xi, and I don't see that blue wire. I have the same symptom, I took battery to check and it's good. When I pressed the start button it just clicks and that's it
I have 2007 BMW 525i too, and started getting clock resetting to 00:00 problem. I did google search, someone posted that this might be related to the battery issue. Since my battery was already about 5 years old, today I just purchased a new battery from Walmart, and replaced the battery. Immediately after replacing the battery, I set clock to the right time and turned off the car. Then, I was cleaning up garage. After about 2 hours, I restarted car, tried to park car inside the garage, I noticed that the clock was set to 00:00 again. My batter has a label 9/2018, so, it is quite fresh and should have enough juice. After watching your video, I guess this might be related to the IBS fault. Tomorrow, I will try to disconnect the IBS to see to if clock reseting issue can be fixed. Thanks a lot for your video to share the issue and workaround.
I have a bmw e90 3 series 325i and have replaced the alternator and the starter and battery went this morning to crank car and nothing put my obd scanner and got the code 2E8B for the battery sensor I’m going to unplug it and hope it works this E90 coupe has been a nightmare just tired of the dam thing hope it works great video thanks
I got up this morning unhooked the sensor and gave it Lil jump didn’t do nothing at first but tighten up the positive some more and negative and car turned on seen that my cable on other car was disconnected wow crazy lol 😂 but car is on hope it turns back on letting her warm up keep you posted
I cannot thank you enough! I just had to leave my house for a job interview and exactly the same issue, unplugged the blue connector and the car fired right up! Thank you so much!!!!!
Hi Robert, Just watched your video re: IBS ... Gotta say Big thanks for that, I've had the RAC look at my e60 with the same problem as yours...He couldn't fix it ? An auto electrician wanted £70 just to look at it ? Telling me it could cost a small fortune to fix.. Just as I was about to give up I came on here, watched your video and BOOM💥 It worked 😄 You saved me a pot of dosh and a shit storm between my ears man, Thankyou ! Andy, Liverpool UK. 🖒🖒
My car Z4 E89, one day fine, next no start. Code says it's hall sensor key slot fault, but tried a 2nd hand replacement and both keys, still the same. Code reader gave out historical battery charge, day before fail, 99%, now 39%. Something drained battery. So now fully charged. Still no start. I will disconnect the ibs tomorrow just see what happens.
I got an 08 328i, I have the issue where every thing turns on, except the engine doesn't start.I removed the ibs and still didn't start, even though everything else was fine as if the engine was on.Perhaps it's the starter since battery is also good???
This is an absolutely brilliant video. My car starts every time just be getting the warning battery dechanging and a picture of a car on a lift Icon. Well I have had my battery checked and everything is fine. I was thinking it may be the alternator as it had a slightly low charge. Until I discovered IBS and what it does from your video. I'm going to try to disconnect this and I hopefully all will be well. Just a bit worried about the iDrive. would any new icons warning information come up. I have a bmw 2009 e60 520.
Hey Peter, Glad the video helped! The icons associated with the IBS will not be there because it's not connected. The most important thing for you to do is to check your battery often, daily would be best, until you know for sure the problem is the IBS and NOT the battery.
It's an ATG IBS used to monitor electrical & computer circuits. Don't get scammed by dealerships. I have removed the ATG and hit $32,500.00 to get the Lamborghini Huracan. Plus the battery prices. ATG say you can clear everything by using BlueDriver and save you money for not getting OEM battery.
I'm replacing the battery AND the IBS on a 2017 F15 X5 (the bad IBS caused the battery to be flattened out several times). Those IBS are also affecting newer BMW.
Thanks for the video. I have a problem I put a new battery in and the car was sitting for a month a the battery died.now I'm buying an oem and hope for the best
I'm going to check out my car first thing in the morning I am going through the same thing I will let you know by morning I really need it to start my car is a 2006 530i fingers crossed
Wish I knew this on my first 2006 530xi.. brought it to the stealership and they charged me 5k for a new mechtronic unit. I went to the beach went in car after no start.. disconnected barrery and it started but drove around d for a sec to test it turned it off and it went out again. This time I decided to get it towed to BMW. Wish I just unplugged the fing ibs. Smh
I'm had the exact same warning control messages you did on my 2008 328xi. Literally the first time my clock reset when I started it after work one day almost as if the battery was disconnected and reconnected again then it gave the control message you had for battery discharge with a pic of a car on a lift. Im almost sure its my IBS sensor now I'll try this fix after work.
I hit a dear and my car started showing codes for this and now my car will not start and wouldn’t come out of gear this little thing cause so many problems
@@gregpalumbo2503 I did replace the battery about two or more years later. I did because one cell was going bad and it was under warranty. So to be honest I really don't think not having the IBS sensor in there did it but it is possible. I sold the BMW about a year ago.
Sounds like the draw is real. You need to isolate system to figure out the cause. When the car is not being used for a while stay overnight pull fuses to isolate a system may help.
Hi let's see if this reaches out to someone I just replace the battery in my 2007 BMW 550i everything lights up it cranks but doesn't start. Before I replace the battery I was getting random none starts just clicks when it would crank it starts. Now again after replacing the battery it cranks but doesn't start!! Any ideas
I have a bmw 528i 2008 , changed the battery because it wasn’t good anymore and now my car doesn’t want to start, the lights turn on an off and I have codes popping up like transmission , abs etc . it turned on properly yesterday but didn’t want to go into drive or reverse , now it doesn’t want to turn on , not sure what’s wrong
I have a 328i 2007 and took it in as it had a recall for air bag and oil change since then it has had starting problems took it local and they thought it was starter they had me confused so I had it towed to BMW... they said it was not the starter it was the cable to the battery something got wet/ corrosion and the whole thing had to be replaced at the tune of 5,398.00 had it for a week when i got it back the engine light came on again and the bulb light and radiator fluid light came on took it in and replaced light they told me the device light is going on because break fluid had to be replaced said I would wait on that. Drove back home stopped at gas station and would not start after filling up with gas. had to have it towed again??? Please help!
Sorry for delay, had been a really busy week. I haven't worked on a 3 series but I'll try to help. Do the Accessories power up if you press the start stop button? When you 1st put the fob in the car or you are sitting in the car only thing that should be coming up as the little key symbol 2nd press should make several lights on the dash come on, does that happen or not?
Hi guys 👋 I disconnected the IBS and then the battery after waiting 1hr the car started.was wondering if it will continue to work as a normal drain to the battery? Or will it kill the live of the battery?
Well that is the main goal of the IBS is to extend battery life. that part I can't tell you about for sure but my thought process is with the IBS out of the picture is reverts back to just a regular charge through an alternator which is always work fine in the past.
How are you disconnecting the IBS? Something's not right if you don't have lights. The only thing that's be disconnected is that little two-wire blue connector nothing else
Can this be my problem for my 2011? Having similar issues when i use push start i get a single click and then nothing else i was thinking this or my relay?
I want to yell you thank u for saving me some time and money. I had this very same issue. I unplugged the IBS and my car started right up. Thank u, Thank u, Thank u for making this video.
Do the accessories power up when you press the start button a second time without your foot on the brake? If so it sure sounds like a starter to me. The starter on mine also went out definitely a big job
@@Nobobs62 The accessories do turn up as soon as you turn the ignition on. I tried knocking the starter a little and tried cranking again and it started making a click sound probably by the starter solenoid so this tells me that clearly the starter is bad and probably the brushes are worn out, so it needs to be replaced.
Hi my bmw e60 2.3i 2005 will not start even when jump started it just clicks but no start. When I have it connected to jump start the light all come on but idive doesn’t come on. Do I disConnect the ibs 1st then try jump start it after? Thanks
Hi again I managed to get it started before I can remember how but I didn’t change the ibs.. having issues again where the car not starting , no lights on dash , interior lights work , central locking don’t work Swimming pool of Water behind driver seat It was sat around for a month, I got it jump started but couldn’t turn it the car off a even with the key out!! I disconnected negative still wouldn’t turn off - i did end up taking out ignition switch fuse out fuse (7) to cut the engine off The car wouldn’t start again tested all the fuse viable fuses they were fine so got a new battery it’s was super low 3.6 Fitted the new battery but the bastard still won’t start- Any help where I should start first any help would be amazing God bless
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think so. My thought would be it's one of the front wheel speed sensors. My 97 528i went into limp mode when the passenger side front sensor went out
