I'm Abby, a retro 80s junkie and proud member of Generation X. My passion is rescuing vintage treasures, especially nostalgic things from my childhood in the 80s. I enjoy thrifting and scouring estate sales to obtain these relics, cleaning them up, and helping them find new homes where they will be loved and appreciated again. But first, I can't wait to share my finds with you so we can all enjoy that warm fuzzy feeling of nostalgia. My hubby and I have another RU-vid channel about the awesome 1980s ~ if you're coming over from Our 80s Life, thanks for checking out this channel as well. It's my solo venture, where I can share my thrifted finds and other fun stuff. Welcome!
Some of the brands featured in this video are European, and their appliances are typically much smaller than what we are used to here in the states. The Smeg store we showed was located in Europe.
Smeg is somehow retro, but not enough for my style, but the only thing I don’t like about their fridges is that they are way to small for families and they lack the amazing space saving tricks vintage fridges had.
Wow, THANK YOU so much!! Here's a link to the video about how we made our "80s Wall of Awesomeness" on our other channel, if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fki0R9-Q-40.htmlsi=mqYeo5sgRrYcrOJq
The bunny was from a line called purr tenders. They were stuffed animals that wore costumes like a bunny wearing cat ears. The lip phone was in DJs room on full house.
I love when you said that you truly feel that you are rescuing them. Why? I have a dear friend,In London, she finds them in the mud of the River Thames. She goes through great lengths to clean them up. She calls them her Thames River Orphans. She adopts them out, even. I have a monkey, and some rubber ducks(not Plushie). I found a little Tigger the tiger last year,a wash in the washing machine did the trick. He’s my lucky mascot now.
Styx,Kilroy was here, this was one of the last of the concept albums,a last gasp of that tradition of late 1960s and 1970s rock album traditions. Many argue that Kilroy Was Here killed the genre. The album preceding it was Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’. Ironically,Kate Bush,a living Legend in the UK,continued the tradition, with her double Suite,’Hounds of Love’. A supreme album. I say ironically, because her career started as a result of her friend from Pink Floyd,Dave Gilmore sent a cassette tape to his record agent, and the rest is history
Gumby! He enjoyed a bit of a re-appreciation back in the 80s. Remember the candy,’Gumby Fruit pectin chews’? They were kinda like Chuckles candy,I don’t know why they went with the term fruit pectin,Wierd…
I had a Velcro wallet,I used it until 1992,when I got mugged in Boston! THAT wallet did indeed have money in it! More importantly,it contained a high school photo of my first sweetheart 🥲 Stolen,at knifepoint,by little thugs😫
The cats were not rare but they are super cute yes I remember them. I have those reindeer still from the 80’s! You need the dad one for full set! I’ll definitely check out your store! I look for My Child Dolls & Herself The Elf stuff
Just thought you might wanna know the kitty cat pound that you think is pound puppies as long as it has a cat on there they’re called pound pies. They are from mid 80s. They were separate from pound puppies only by the fact that they were cats just thought you might wanna know andso hopefully that helped you and I really enjoy your videos. They’re really fun.
You found a whole lot of stuff I had when I was a kid!!! Including those Hallmark Reindeer. I sold a few of them on my Ebay Store last year during the holidays and there were the one I had never used, and they still had the original tags too.
Nice, me too! I just listed some of the reindeer in anticipation of the holiday season... I was pleasantly surprised at how popular they were last year!
Lucky!! I've never seen the board game. For some reason, Shirt Tales are less common for me to find at estate sales compared to other cartoons... not sure why. I've always loved them!
Hey Paula! We're good, thanks! I've had to start making more solo videos on this channel because Keith has been traveling a TON for work (and helping out his parents who are both currently having health struggles.) Hopefully things will slow down soon so we can make more videos together. Best wishes to you and Haywood :)
I remember my family had a Curtis Mathes tv when I was little, or maybe it was my dad's stereo system circa 1993. When you mentioned that, it made remember. I never knew it was a store, though.
I think it was like an electronics rent-to-own thing, but I'm a little fuzzy on that. My memory of going there to choose my first VHS is strong though, ha!
I have one of Christopher Pike's books, the one called Witch. I'm pretty sure I have a second one, but it wasn't on the Good Reads author list. The cover has a teen girl in front of the TV and she's on the phone looking out the window. I think the TV behind her has a ghost coming out of it. It's put away in the closet with my Fear Street books.
I actually haven't read that one, so I looked it up and check this out - here's what Good Reads says: "From the New York Times bestselling author of The Midnight Club-now an original Netflix series!" Gonna have to see if that's still available to watch (although it sounds like the reviews were pretty bad, lol!)
Cool finds and great video! I have only found 1 caboodle so far and it’s a Barbie one from the 90’s I believe. It was supposed to have a heart shaped handle. Otherwise it’s in great condition! If you are ever in the East TX area, we should go thrifting together 😊
Fun! Thanks Jenn! It's been a few years since we've been back to East Texas, but my hubby is originally from Nacogdoches and we both graduated from SFA! We definitely miss the Piney Woods!
That's an oodle of caboodles!! Fun fact- at work we were looking at a customers new brand art and I said it looked like the art you'd find on an old school trapper keeper. A bunch of triangles and colors and stuff. So I Google it to show a picture to a coworker and one of the top results on Google is your video about the new ones that were released with you holding one on the thumbnail! I thought that was cool!
Great video Abby!! Love Caboodles 😍 I still have my pink and purple "tackle box" lol, hope to collect another one in the very near future 😏 If I may ask, what are going to do with all the Caboodles you've collected?
Thanks Doreen! And to answer your question... I have no idea, LOL!! So far I've just been displaying them on that shelf; although, I do actually use some of them to store items like hair accessories, makeup, and vintage jewelry or small items for sale in my Etsy shop.
@AbbysRetroRescue If I had the space, I'd display too lol. You're making great use of your boxes! My 80s Caboodles is back home at my parents' house. It'll be displayed in my childhood bedroom once we're done giving it a retro do over. But recently, I was gifted with one of Petite Caboodles for my 50th (by my daughters). It's super cute and fits my minimal amount of makeup lol.
Great caboodle haul & I LOVE your shirt. ❤ I have the small caboodle case that has a mini shopping mall in it. I love it! Have you seen one before? I found mine at the goodwill years ago. Also, I had that blue mascara too! 💙 I bought mine at Tom Thumb in Richardson 1985 (ish)
I have the fuschia and the turquoise/pink ones shown in the video. Each one is used for an art project so I can carry the supplies without having to search for everything each time I work on it.
Thanks for the tips and tricks. I'm about to buy a vintage barney toy to surprise my gf with on her birthday but was worried about the stains I saw on it. Can't give it to her like that. Again, thanks!
Who washes out paint rollers. Keep them in sealed plastic bags between coats and toss them after the job is complete. The dollar store ones work fine if you de--lint first as the other person mentioned.
Thanks, Abby, we are clearing out my mom's basement apartment since she needs professional care now with her advanced Alzheiner's. Lots of stuffed animals.
