We are a cycling family - we use bicycles for commuting, recreation, as well as for touring when we have a chance.
We like all sorts of bikes - in our home, you can find several upright bicycles ("normal" bikes), two recumbent trikes (Steintrikes WildOne), and one cargo bike (Babboe City-E). We strongly believe that bicycle traffic should be the future of all modern cities, but also a sustainable way to travel. Cycling as a family, we hope to get stronger bonds with our children and motivate them to be mindful about the world around us, and to appreciate our natural environment as well as the different people we can meet along the way.
I became a trike rider because riding a traditional bicycle became too painful, nerve and joint pain that would last for days after riding as little as 4, 5 miles. Since I started riding a trike, I have never looked back, my only regret is it took me so long to get one. It took me about 2 months to develop my trike legs, a little longer to strengthen my neck muscles. My Catrike Dumont has put the fun back into riding.
New can be intimidating in price but try one out for a decent 10 mile ride and see how it feels. Someone, somewhere, has one for rental without an electric assist . I bought mine used and in need of minor repairs . It is a Terratrike Path 3 speed internal hub or at least it was. I changed the gearing to a 20 speed setup , replaced the brass bushings ( yup 2007 model!) and put a rack on it. 500.00 Canadian to buy it and 150-200 bucks to upgrade it. Facebook marketplace has a lot of E trikes in the range of 5-9000.00 used! Just what is your health worth?
Looks good. Simple design and nicely done! I think I'd either spread the two Thule bars further apart or add a third one at the rear, to spread out the weight more and add stability against crosswinds. I have only one trike, but have wondered if I could fix up something like this for my Scion FR-S sports car.
Hello! I use a similar solution on my Skoda Fabia. But we need 6 tracks as our trikes are from different manufacturers. We don't use aluminium but stainless steel 😅
I noticed that only on the red trike you have 3 sprockets in the front. The green one has only one mid size sprocket. Is there any reason? (I'm impressed that you made it up this mountain with such a quite fast gear ratio.) :)
I don't get what's going on here please someone educate me - bike technology must have moved on a lot since I had kids lol. 7 years ago I rebuilt my back wheel (which I only really pull a kid bike trailer with now lol - but one day we'll tour the world!) to encompass a Shimano 8 speed internal gear hub - when I was a kid there were 3 gear Sturmey Archer but only for the rich folk! I thought it a wonderful idea, because although derailleurs were fantastic, the chain was always bent at some angle and that will always cause problems for bearings, chains and sprockets - the force isn't equal. The hub I bought was affordable, and apparently only 'run-in' at 5k miles. I see here some sort of internal hub but also a derailleur - how does that work??
2:43: LOOK where you are going, yah muppet. you will be the first to complain if a car crashes in to you because the driver is using a phone or reading a book. FOOLS
I have an electric assisted recumbent trike. I love it. My only complaint is a much wider turn radius. Some trails come out at a 90* angle to a sidewalk and it can be difficult to make that corner. Other than that, being lower you need to be visible. Have a flag and lights.
You can add blinker lights on the sides of the bike, if you buy ones with 2 or 3 aa batteries you can actually wire them in parallel with the back light...I forgot the ac voltage coming from dynamo... Oh well, you still can charge blinkers with a USB dynamo adapter...
WIND !!! 🌬💨 (safety)(less drag/resistance) Is one of many reasons why I would choose taking out my recumbent trike over one of my bikes. The aerodynamics / design of a trike means worring about stablility in windy conditions is at a minimum. Side winds won't be blowing me about and i won't be fighting super hard against head winds getting nowhere, which is the downside to riding bikes where most energy will be lost battling the wind and the unseen danger at any second able to push you a foot or more out in the road, even lift you and the bike off the ground in certain conditions. Whenever a strong wind on a bike I'm usually thinking 1 of 3 things "geez i can hardly move forwards, any slower I'd be faster walking"😮 or "if that side gust was 10 secs ago, that car would have hit me as passed so close"😬 and finally "f*** me I'm flying, this is ace" 😅 Strong wind on trike I'm thinking "why am i not slowing down that much or blowing around 🤔, 😏 this is way easier than it should be...carry on...la de da de da" 😂 However It feels at times being lower down on the trike means i get more dust in my lungs and eyes, especially noticeable on dry windy days when following others on trials 😑😷 I also feel less benefit from tail/back winds, but tbh I don't feel I need them to begin with when using the trike 😂. Both have many pro's and cons, easy solution, own both if your able and choose what u feel would suit best for that day ❤
You need a USB adapter, too. I'm sure you got lights or electronics that need charging... I am making my own USB adapter, the ones on the market are too expensive... But if you got a trike you can afford it...
Thanks for the video! I didn't know you had a yt channel, Robert mentioned it today while I was dropping off a fork for powder coating. We'll be organizing our third brevet on September 16th this year and the route will mostly be on and around EuroVelo 6. ridewithgps.com/routes/40487777
I started watching this videos mainly because Steintrikes, now I learning history and seeing nice country. Thank you make them. You can do lots with trike.
