Good on ya mate, Yacht club is a good launching spot. As you don't have to worry about paying parking fees, if your not a local. Some good squid and Salmon in that region. Don't forget to check out part one of this video
Hello, glade it was helpful to you. Check out our website too if you want to learn more, we have loads of blog articles on kayaking, how to target specific species, and of course how to fish local Port Phillip bay locations. Thanks for watching
🤙 yeah the sound of the salmon when they bust up like that is amazing. The salmon run has been going all week at Altona, but I haven't been able to get out, hopefully they are still around next week.
Yeah it's a new rod for me, as I lost my 1DFR when I flipped over awhile back. The rod is a Abu Garcia Veritas 6.6 1-3kg, whilst it is a nice rod, I think I like the 1DFR better. But I don't think they make them anymore, well not in the white colour anyway. But if you not fussy with colours then I would go the 1DFR. I personally like the white because it contrasts well the backdrop of the ocean, which is good for filming.
Yeah, I just went for a walk at lunch time and I could see them down around Flemings Pool not far from the boat ramp. Too windy for my little yak today. Thanks for watching :)
Wonderful guy Actually , he tell us where to put (location), your kayak on the water, then he gives up any location worth of fishing in the area. Many others they playing with words like : east bay or north channel or westish port! or subscribe and we ll tell you more!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the kind words buddy, appreciated! it normally takes ages to work out how to fish a new spot. With this series I was just trying to share my knowledge in order to save others time. There is plenty of fish in the sea as long as we all fish sustainably. :)
@@damianwestcott8885 North, North West, or North East, usually is best, but you can still get out on a light southerly. Check out video series I did on kayaking Altona, part one and two will tell you everything you need to know about fishing the location - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bs8e0qK0LQE.html
Hi mate, no there is now parking restrictions which were put in place about 12 months ago. The parking is free for residents of Hobson's Bay as long as you have sticker on your car. I have no idea on the costs of the parking, as I am a resident and don't have to pay. Cheers Rob@@collowood
Very true! what do you prefer mate, something a bit harder like squid, as it stays on the hook better? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, much appreciated. Rob
Fresh untenderized squid strips is my choice of bait because i always have it in the freezer. i like idea of mixing baits up but pipis are expensive and pumping yabbies is back breaking work, i reckon lug worms would be the best bait , but they are not easy to come by@@hookinmouthtackle8508
Yeah agree on the above. I know a few good yabbie spots but like you say hard on the old back. I keep mine in a tank and have been able to keep them alive for up to three months. Never used lug worms, what type of habitat do they dwell in?
They live in grey thick silt type sand, they are popular in the UK, which is where i got the idea to look for them and i found some, but, they are hard to dig out with the conventional yabbie pump...ive kept them alive for about 5 days before, Bream love em @@hookinmouthtackle8508
It’s that dirty the water there atm I went there yesterday made me sick so polluted now I wouldn’t even eat out if it … there was dead fish washing up at Altona beach see about 6 dead ones never used to be that bad
Hey, normally the EPA shut the beach down when it is polluted to point of danger for people. There was a lot of people down here over the last few days and in the water. It has been smelling strongly over the last two weeks up near Apex park. Given it has been pretty choppy for a number of days the water is dark at the movement, the last two days have had calm conditions, it was like glass out there this morning and for most of the day, plenty of Kayaker out too.
Hi mate, sorry buddy unfortunately I am not a boat owner, so only have access to the spots that I can get to by kayak. Thanks for watching. Tight Lines
Spot on as usual, anchoring up in the sand gutter and burlying up has usually produced whiting, I don't think I have ever caught a flathead there though.
Cheers mate, yeah rock flathead in the gutters between the weed beds. There are some nice ones there, bounce a decent size sinker off the sand, it gets their attention - Thanks for watching and commenting mate.
Love most of your video's, not this one. Tying on the front hook like that will delay the effectiveness of any strike as the lines pulls up the hook and stops at the sinker part of the jighead, destroying any plastic if you don't hook up. Why not just tie it on as normal and then tie a line from the eye of the jighead to the second hook? Far more effective and less risk. Just a thought.
Hi Mate, thanks for that, never tried it your way, I have seen the jig heads that have the extra loop hole at the bottom which would be perfect. The method I used in the video, I use all the time and it truely increased my catch rate. But now I am keen to give your method a shot and see if that increases my catch rate even further. Thanks for taking the time to comment much appreciated. Cheers, Rob
@@hookinmouthtackle8508 No worries, didn't want you to take it the wrong way. Just my observations. Be interested to see how it goes. I did something similar years ago with knotless hooks. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BXOtIuefT7s.html
Nar I never took it to heart mate, there is many ways to skin a cat as they say. I am familiar with your videos Pete, you were a Kayak RU-vid OG, you and Rhino were the inspiration to all us youtubers back in the day. I used to watch your videos all the time, always found them entertaining. Cheers @@topgunpete1
Not that I know of, I believe that ramp was put there for wheelchair access. But it make great access for kayaks and anything with wheels. I think the surf life saving club also use it. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Rob
Do you mind giving me a call so that we can go out fishing at night together? I have been thinking about kayak night fishing, however, I do not feel comfortable going out fishing in the Port Philit Bay alone.
Sweet mate, because I have lots of young kids I usually go last minute, I’m lucky enough to live walking distance to the beach so I have my kayak setup in my garage ready to go. If it’s 5knts or lower and the tide is flowing I’m usually out in Front of the surf life saving club so welcome to come and join me shoot me a comment on RU-vid when you are going out brother
Many thanks for your response. Where is the Surf Life Saving Club? I do kayak fishing at Altona, Campbells Cove or Clifton Springs early in the morning. Hoe about you?
The surf club is directly to the left of the new/old pier. I haven't fished a lot in the early morning this snapper season, mostly night time. If you fish Clifton Springs make sure you check out our video on how to fish it from a Kayak - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZuC0FWCF4ks.htmlsi=wc8-JsZvjIcq9Azm @@MrTopbread
Thanks buddy, yes these videos do take a lot of time to edit etc. So, I do hope that they are beneficial to views. Appreciate you taking the time to comment mate, thanks Rob
Glad I could help, appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Keep on watching my good friend, plenty more to come from this channel - Cheers Rob
Shame that in most of the country, catching snapper is almost banned. I suppose that their stocks need to be protected, but the restrictions are really heavy.
Yeah mate it is a shame, because they are such a great sport fish to catch. Protecting the fishery is really important, so it's always important to only take what you need. Let's hope that it does not come to that point ever in Victoria. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
Thanks, will do! Appreciate you watching my videos and taking the time out of your day to comment. Kayaking tomorrow morning so hopefully I will have a new video out on Monday.
Hi mate, yes the long version of this video is on the editing table - Stay tuned -Thanks for watching and appreciate you taking the time to comment. - Cheers Rob
Yes mate it was a little cold, but gotta get out of my comfort zone in order to get a big one. Thanks for watching and commenting buddy much appreciated!
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching - Snapper and Jews bite well at night and the wind conditions are usually lighter in the late evening. Double my chances of getting a good fish. :)
