How does the torso and arms of the space marine heroes compare to tactical and devastators? From what i noticed the biggest difference are the legs so i wondered if the only thing they need is new legs like the deathwatch ones or 3D printed.
For me, despite the costs, this is perfect regardless. It's only a few hundred odd points of a couple of armies, and I collect 4 of the factions, Guard, Orks, Nids and SMs. The rest are genuinely nice palette cleansers and would be a break from Legions Imperialis, and my FLGS has a buy in offer for unwanted armies.
As soon as I saw what was being released with 8th ed, I could see the writing all over the wall. 40k has it's elements of absurdity, but what I saw and continue to see to this day are elements of comically childish ideas and a company that has sold it's soul to corporate greed.

People need to stop living in the nostalgia of whatever edition they started. GW needs to evolve and they've done so at a fairly slow rate. They're not coming to your house to take away your precious firstborn. You and your friends don't like 10th? Cool, go play 8th. I don't think competitive players will complain because, at the end of the day, they're all about winning tournaments. They'll adapt to the changes and meta. Upgrade sprues are the future. Once all Primaris models are released I think we'll find upgrade sprues being more prominent.
wasted alot of money on a MA archaeology degree that i dont use in my career but the short swords are probably meant to represent the literal roman gladius (the weapon not the detachment) which is a smaller sword IRL, longer swords were generally for cavalry in the Roman period. Most people are probably more culturally familiar with longer High and late medieval swords which are more what you are attracted to. Typically GW give them to templars and dark angels due to their aesthetic
To me the newer Heavy Metal paint jobs seem intentionally "simpler" or perhaps better way of phrasing it would be more achievable by your average painter.
For me, a lot of the problem boils down to this. 1: legends units can't be used in official tournaments which is a problem because 2: everyone at your FLGS will be playing matched play because some of them like to play in tournaments which is a problem because 3: legends units dont receive balance updates so in regular matched okay games you will often wind up playing with what is funtionally a value/points deficit if you use many legends units. Being a player who uses legends units means you have to spend extra time searching an already niche space trying to find people willing to play casual/narrative warhammer, which seems like an oddly hard thing to do compared to when I started playing in 3rd.
I think Heavy Metal paint simpler these days to be more imitative by amateur painters. Their painting tutorials on RU-vid fit this idea, I think. They're caught between making the models look amazing and having consumers say, "I could do that."
my main concern with sanguinary guard is how conspicuous they are. the "sword pointed up" guy is going to have a bunch of obvious twins if you build multiple kits. one thing i'd like to see are more elaborate transfers. much of the old death company detailing could be replicated with decals or painting.
The sanguinary guard models aren't just bad because of the heads and wings. The proportions and posing are also horrendous. They're not graceful flying warriors; they're rotund dudes in power armour falling over rocks. Do you genuinely believe that this is the best they could do with all the money, time and resources they have available to them?
I’m guessing he’s just trying to be positive about a kit that, while I think is terrible and disappointing, is a kit that we are unfortunately going to be stuck with for years to come. Edit: Spelling errors

They aren't any more rotund than any other mk10. They are literally mk10 with slightly more sculpted detail. Need to see in person as I say in the video re:poses

In terms of posing they're identical to the jump assault intercessors, which also are very static and awkward. I think you've commented before previously about how they are yet to nail the non flying stand jump units. I think these are probably one of the more egregious examples of that.
Primaris is when i quit. Started playing in 2006 and primaris getting lore explanation was so cringe my disbelief could no longer be suspended. They should have just been true scale marines. Companies making dumb excuses to sell more product is nothing new, but the community gaslighting showed me this was not a community for me. I will never understand humanities to desire to belong to a community at the expense of logic or empathy for others outside the group.
Primaris/8th edition got me into 40k the models looked amazing while the firstborn squat marines looked like shit. Sure they have their “Charm” but that charm is just another word for looking like shit. Horus Heresy and Space Marine Hereoes Firstborns though, now those look great give us more of them.
I recall, when those BA kits dropped, some of my really model focused friends would buy those kits and kitbash them into their own chapters because the scaling was just so much better. It's weird watching all this play out and having a history of the scaling and how it all...got lost in the sauce you could say. Excellent analysis.
Im gonna go off into speculation territory; eventually IMO we will see upscaled firstborn models to coincide with the Scouring/10k year leadup to modern 40K...it just makes sense from a nostalgia bait & money-making standpoint with GW. A lot of the lore/storytelling is left in the open so that creative decisions can be made to fill in the things. Cynicism aside - it makes too much sense
The moment I finished the new Lion novel, I started a Dark Angels “Last Wall Protocol” army, consisting of all the Successor Chapters & 6 Wings from the Heresy… LOTS of Risen Marines

I didn’t mind the 9th edition primaris starter minis but I don’t like a lot of the tacticool minis. They just rub me the wrong way. I also don’t like the marines going to grav tanks. It’s stupid. They should’ve just done bigger minis
I also don’t mind the sternguard. Just not a fan of the blood angel release or a lot of the primaris range especially the vehicles and the weird ankles
I mean I'll probs just sell the armies I don't want tbh but some of them I do really want may cancel it not sure see how it goes really but some of the armies I'll defo not keep tho as not my style to bother with at all and someone else can put more use to it then me. Whenever that is it arrives of course
you sound new to the hobby and with youth comes inexperience and naivety. But respect your older gamers whom devoted more time and energy to the game than you have. Stop buying Gw . They have forgotten the essence of the original warhammer!
Introducing Primaris was a huge mistake. With size creep, the SM range was getting larger without erasing "10,000 years" of SM lore. The Primaris story does not make sense and was completely not needed. The size increase did not even "fix" scale problems with the game. Primaris are simply a watered down version of a much better idea. Thank the warhammer godz for 30K. The new "bell bottom boys" are all bubbly and simple looking. They really do look like "Guiliman's Ogrin". Floating tanks? Mario Karts? Just horrible. The new monopose San Guard suck, they are a great example of all things "Primaris".
