It doesnt look like it but surely the pedestrian crossing om the bottom right has signals? No way should people be crossing 3 lanes like that without traffic being stopped. Doesnt need to be 3 lanes anyway if it was an actual roundabout. Theres probably 10,000 junctions like this with roundabouts and they work fine but the design was changed here
Companies that waste our time and money like this should be penalized where they cannot be awarded future projects for a while. This turned 1 project into like 3 and milked us for all we have.
I love roundabouts because I hate speeders. I hate those hotheads in a hurry hombres who tear thru traffic @ 80mph endangering us all. I have even seen some of these fool cross into the oncoming lanes to pass. Others I have seen pass on the shoulder. I figure they must be late for last call. Roundabouts are designed to catch these fools. If you charge into a roundabout at high speed you wont be able to make the turn & you will go up & over the center putting you airborne and into a crash. Thats why all roundabouts center is raised like they are. I love 'em. !
👎1:15 the Red car is at a Spot where drivers can get confused. The arrow under him shows straight and left. But there are 2 left lanes. What, if he pick the most left lane, he will just know he's wrong after he will pass the "only left arrow there. 👎
@@meisterxehanort1941 didnt we talk about improvements here? i just show whats wrong and you say its not important. maybe. but its still not good designed. youll have to agree on that bec its just true
What's ridiculous is the 3 entry lanes into the roundabout and the one lane around part of the centre. This isn't a roundabout its totally overcomplicated round-squished-avocado. The peak traffic is inside the circle. The road was built and demolished 3 times. Several bits of property were destroyed too. They could have kinked the road towards the left there, so most of the roundabout was built before messing with the current intersection. Then they could have joined the current roads over the weekend.
Oh buddy I love how you responded to this, at first you might think increasing green time is better, but actually creates more traffic imbalance, as more green for one side makes a extended wait time for the other side. Here a roundabout kills both the wait and the dangers of red light crossers and tbone accidents, and essentially forces drivers to slow down. So what they did was absolutely a good idea.
I love how every time we make a roundabout in the USA it has to be the mosy insane shit ever. They try and itiot-proof it with all of these markings and they split up the lanes and try and guide people the right way. In my opinion it all backfires and they should just make a normal roundabout like the rest of the world does. So silly.
This is a well designed turbo roundabout, I’m actually impressed. Just look at how it would flow, very smooth and signs should be easy to read (the ones that look like traffic lights.)
Because America does build traffic circles like they do in Eastern Europe where traffic jams and crashes keep occuring. America builds roundabouts like the Netherlands and France, that are built for appropriate traffic volumes and safe approaches.
@@1fiack there are only 1-2 lanes in the roundabout. Just like any standard roundabout. The extra lanes are on the approaches. They are like slip lanes but are still subject to the yield condition upon entry.
That's a traffic circle not a roundabout. A roundabout is very specific traffic circle of a single lane with operating speed of 10 mph - 15 mph with yield merge traffic metering. Multi lane traffic circles are dangerous and are not included in roundabout statistics. A roundabout is detrimental to traffic flow of the primary road verses a traffic light.
Erm well actually according to the FHWA there are both classifications for roundabouts to be multilane and single lane both with their own design and speed, moreover roundabouts, even multilane ones, have been shown to drastically reduce injury causing collisions and reduce overall collisions when compared to traditional intersections. In Carmel Indiana the average commute times actually dropped on average by a few minutes, and while there are roads with too high a traffic volume for a roundabout the majority of signalized intersections would benefit greatly with being replaced with a roundabout.
I mean, it’s a step in the right direction and definitely MUCH safer then a intersection, it may be built for trucking and that’s why it’s so large (just a theory) but either way it’s better then doing nothing.
*The slip lanes are unnecessary* , they encourage fast traversal, which undermines safety. This roundabout is monstrous in a bad way. The blame for Wright Construction may be for the amount of destruction involved, but likely not for the excessive design
There are no slip lanes. The shape makes it look like there are slip lanes but right turning cars actually have to yield to oncoming traffic from the roundabout.
America had traffic circles before Europe did. They were removed before the modern roundabout was developed. America started building them in the early 90s after France completed their roundabout conversion that started in the late 80s.
This is not a roundabout these are r compöicated intersections in one, A roundabout is one way jas no traffic lights and the cars in the roundabout have priority exit before all others can enter
That's a multi-lane traffic circle which are considered dangerous. A modern roundabout is a single lane traffic circle with 10 mph - 15 mph operating speed using yield merge traffic metering. Those are the only traffic circles that will be included in roundabout statistics. The main road would have likely been served better by a good traffic light designed intersection. Ponderous amounts of left turning traffic from two roads of comparable volume are candidates for roundabouts. Roundabouts should process traffic faster than a alway stop controlled intersection. People pushing for roundabouts are secretly pushing for traffic. calming devices to discourage through traffic.
@@DwightKShrute0 a roundabout - a road junction that traffic moves in one direction around a central reservation to another road known as an “exit” Therefore, that road isn’t a roundabout since traffic isn’t moving in one direction, it’s a T-junction
