I finally took a stab at my Ultramarines using your videos and man, they’re far and away my favorite models I’ve done so far! Thank you! I ended up ordering the Blood Angels box set so I could try this tutorial on them. Enjoying the painting so much more from your tutorials so thank you again.

Wow. Just amazing. Was going to do the same to my gitz army but with a little blue on top. However I would also like to add a glowing effect from aome mushrooms. How would you do that effect? Just make it brighter and then glaze with eg green? Or would you stipple to keep the cloth texture?
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures 2 дня назад
Thank you. I would likely use a combination of glazing and stippling, use glazes to build the colour and foundation but the stipples to pick out any necessary details.

Most definitely will be using this approach for my deathwing. Question, what ratio of contrast to medium did you use for the wash?
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures 6 дней назад
I look forward to seeing how you get on. I eyeballed my mix but something around 70:30 or 60:40 contrast to medium should be a good starting place.

Hey jwminiatures, can i ask u one thing? I love the skin recipe but i want to make the fur brown. What paints should i use in your opinion?
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures 11 дней назад
If I was doing a brown fur I would start with Rhinox Hide, Mournfang brown and then maybe into XV-88 or a 50:50 depending on how bright you want to go. I think this is a good starting point, you could play around with some washes over this or even add some cream colours in to lighten it up and give some variety across the models

@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures Месяц назад
Cool, I look forward to seeing your results. I used silver as secondary metallic, if you have a cooler metallic colour is will balance nicely with the bronze. I think any warm metallics might get lost in the rest of the scheme

The area where the fur and the skin meets looks good. Especially with no blending. How do you make such seemingly smooth transition? I think it is very difficult to determine where there is skin and where there is fur. Especially around muscles. Shouls they have fur? How much should a rat be used for reference for the skin/rat ratio
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures Месяц назад
By adding texture to the fur it creates noise in those transition areas. This helps to create the transition and smooth out those areas. I think it's really down to your interpretation of the model and the sculpt. You can use real life references to help guide you but generally I'll always do the snout, hands and feet as skin and the rest as fur. Obviously there are some exceptions, rat ogres and mutants tend to have more skin

Great video! Are you thinning the metallic paints at all?
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures Месяц назад
Glad you enjoyed it. I am not thinning them. My dry brushes are slightly damp which I find give me semi transparent layers, the metal color range are all very thin but cover great. I will say it really depends on your paint, it could behave differently to mine.
