Very informative. I have gone through about 10 other videos that had nothing but either good or bad things to say about the whole range, which told me absolutely nothing. This actually helps me make some choices. Thanks a lot mate! 👍👍👍

Thank you vm for the video, i pulled the trigger on the xpress paints you picked and couldnt be happier with the quality and how they apply. Awesome recommendations!

Great to hear, I'm glad this was helpful for you. What have you been using them on?

@@jwminiatures I have used them in classic contrast way on some 40K bed rolls and water bottle and ammo pouches and I have also put them on metallic ammo boxes which I first coated with leadbelcher first and they look fantastic!. Other little thing are my black Templar purity seals and candles using cardinal purple which really pops and helps differentiate them vs other marines.

Was looking at getting these as I have the basic set of Game Colours from Vallejo. I'm really liking that some of those blues would make for great Ice World nids and they clearly wet blend well which is somthing I want to learn. Maybe if you wanted to paint some nids, an Ice world colour scheme vid?

There are definitely a lot of nice colours in the set, I am keen to experiment with them. How have you been finding the Game Colours set?

I'm having very good results with the Xpress range. They are very versatile ideal for applying filters. I love Dwarf Skin tough. I would love seeing you using them in one of your tutorials. How would you paint your saturated fleet leviathan Tyranids using mainly Xpress? Great video thanks!
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures 10 месяцев назад
That's good to hear, I'm definitely going to try using them for filters. I'll have to give dwarf skin a proper test on a model, I really wasn't sold on it when it I tried it. I could maybe do them with some nids in the future.

@@jwminiaturesI have been working on an officio assasinorum diorama and started experimenting on blue contrast under gray or black and it's been really fun. On the Eversor I'm planning to do a chromatic contrast under gray but I may wait to try it with these.

yeah the only issue I have had with the paints so far is you really have to shake the crap out of them to get the pigment mixed, also can confirm they airbrush good too.
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures 11 месяцев назад
Yeah, I even put some on the vortex mixer and they still needed a good shake after. I am quite interested to try them through the airbrush as a filter

When using the Xpress Colours I *strongly recommend not to use them in a wet pallet*, or if you do, just use minimum water, because they thin out very quickly, and that's not what you want with them. Also put an agitator inside the bottle to help with separation. Also the undercoat works best, if you have a black to gray to white slapchop style undercoat, that tends toward the brighter spectrum, otherwise the result will be very desaturated. A grey undercoat does not really work well for these kind of paints. The new intense colors that came with the second release are much more saturated, thus the results are more vibrant.

I am looking forward to trying the new expansion set when I get my hands on them. I've heard good things about some of the colours. I have added agitators to all of them now and it does seem to help with the lighter colours or at least the ones that have some white in them.

I thought the idea of these type of paints was to use them over a white primer ? Angel Giraldez says so , so it must be true
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures 9 месяцев назад
On their website its says to apply them on a white or grey primed or painted surface. It really just depends how bright you want the final result.
@erwinmontes1203

@@jwminiatures I agree that you can use them with grey primer too, but most of first layers in the weakest pigmented colors were affected by the gray primer (looking kind of green-ish), I was thinking about 3d printing caps to put half white and half gray primer to look for a specific tone faster. Very good video, btw. Will you review the new xpress color gamma too?
@kraziel

Are you seriously using these on a wet palette? 🤦
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures 11 месяцев назад
Yep, this is very normal for these paints. Angel Giraldez does the same when he uses them
@kraziel
@kraziel 11 месяцев назад
@@jwminiatures No it's not 🤣 Sorry, but I have to disagree, I find it's pretty stupid to use a wet palette with these, and I don't care who that guy is, but he's also doing it wrong 🥲 You're just thinning these paints way too much on a wet palette dude, I think it's defeating the whole purpose of these paints doing it, but anyway. These Vallejo xpress colors are way too thin as it it is, I've used them, but videos like this are misleading people even more into what some of these colors can really do straight ouf of the pot, instead of how weak they look here. I know there's the trick of the camera and all of that, in real life it looks different, but oh well.
@jwminiatures
@jwminiatures 11 месяцев назад
Just for context he was heavily involved in the creation and design of the paints, so it is safe to say he probably understands the uses and practical application better than most. The dilution provided by the wet palette in this amount of time is negligible and is an accurate representation of the colour, consistency and application of each paint
@morphf-YouTube
@morphf-YouTube 9 месяцев назад
The time they are on the palette is so limited that the water absorption is very minimal. (And when you to them on a dry palette and you don’t wipe your brush verry dry, you have the same or maybe even more water to paint ratio in the brush … so don’t worry mate. )
