Our Dream Derelict Home In The Sun had been abandoned for nearly 30 years.
It had no running water, electric, heating or septic tank. There were broken windows, holes in the roof, woodworm and black mold growing up the walls. For decades, the only occupants had been rodents, bats, bees and hoards of other creepy crawlies. We Loved It! Join us on our journey, as we Escape to The Good Life in France. DIY house renovation isn't for everyone, yet two unskilled Brits have taken up the challenge of renovating abandoned house. Follow us along our journey as we get our 1860's rural property in the Creuse back to life. This is not a renovation fixer upper, this is a full house renovation from top to bottom, with even the mortar being stripped form the remaining walls. #AbandonedHouseRenovation #RenovationHome #CottageRenovation #FarmhouseRenovation #FarmRenovation #FullHouseRenovation #OldHouseRenovation #OldHomeRenovation #OldBuildingRenovation #DIYRenovation
Still binge watching my way through your videos. Some observations: 1. You both are judicious in your decisions about how to restore and renovate the house, 2. As I'm sure you both know better than anyone else, you make a great team. 3. It appears to me over the course of the videos I've watches so far, you are both in better shape physically and better shape mentally.
Figured I'd drop you a note to say I'm binge watching all your videos from the beginning. I hope your channel gets more subscribers because you both deserve recognition for the monumental task you are accomplishing.
Please tell us what your previous work was in England, you was very skilled electrician/engineer? And your wife? Because you both are skilled in everything it seems
Mark designed everything from top secret electronic projects, NASA, Engine Management for Cars, including Formula 1, Renault, Fiat etc. Then he had stop stop due to illness. Mandy was in the army and civil service.
Triple glazed windpws exist too. . Window companies offer them sometimes at no extra cost from double glazing. Triple glazed windows cut down on noise, wind and help with insulation
Nice to see the difference in double glazed. That task seemed to go quite easily. Will you guys insulate the ceiling and stud wall before winter? What's on the other side of the bathroom stud wall - a bedroom?
We have a couple more jobs to do before we get to insulate the ceiling and stud wall, hopefully this side of Christmas though. Yes it's another bedroom but I have big plans for that room!
By far, double glaze windows are superior, for sure. Once you insulate the wall and ceiling, you will notice a vast improvement again. With the single glaze, you may as well run to the outhouse in all weather extremes. ❤
Great job and good info. Do you need a vent/fan in the bathroom?. I'm only asking because we'd always used just a de-humidifier [DHM] with the single glazing in winter and noticed a negative difference [mould spots] with the double glazing. It was too much trouble for us to go through the outer walls for a fan so a friend with the skill made a vent in the top of the new wood framed DG window [it was a surprisingly easy job]. We manage easily in the summer by opening the window and still use the DHM in the winter when we have a bath. We know a proper vent will do away with the DHM, we just haven't got around to it yet. Maybe [if required] you could rig a ceiling fan up when you do the new ceiling.
The window needed replacing either way right? So you've got a beautiful window with a terrific view and maybe no ice on top of the bath water 🤣. I like to think of you two warm and cozy and smiling with all the improvements you've completed.♥
Welcome to the Creuse! Yes, Extremely easy to fit. A doddle. We've done numerous ones now. Leroy Merlin for new ones or check the brocantes as the often have immaculate second hand ones in a ton of sizes. ReMaBat, Maximums, Reclaimation Yard etc... Just remember they are bigger than the size advertised on the web, so add a few centimeters.
Great video again , we also live in France and are building a timber frame straw bale house , so it's great to see what other people are doing on their projects, thanks for sharing your journey
@@ourfrenchrenovation hi thanks for the interest in our building, we've taken lots of photos along the way but we have not really filmed anything, to be perfectly honest we are normally to to busy working on it to film, it's great to see your progress on you house
It definitely has been a much wetter and cooler summer this year. There are a lot of berries on the dogberry trees, which they say makes for a colder winter, apparently. Awesome job on the mortaring. A couple of close calls that were near misses, thankfully. Take care both. I hope you get your double glazed windows in soon, so the place will be warmer.❤
What a fantastic job of lime mortaring you've done! The back of the house is transformed, and for €500!! Wow! The benefit of DIY and learning a new skill with the help of friends can make such huge savings. You should both be so proud of what you're achieving. Thanks for sharing this with us. 👏👏👏
