@@mychannel-rv9gy the temps at night are still pretty warm but I installed a solar panel and was able to keep my battery charged enough to keep a fan going all night. I had a screen for the companion way to keep out the mosquitoes so the airflow was good. Also I slept on a thick mattress topper. All that and the rocking of the boat made for comfortable sleeping.
I watch your videos sometimes and relax. This is a great and carefree way to spend your free time. I'm planning to spend my holiday on a sailing ship in the North Sea soon. I wish you all the best. Greetings from Bavaria.
My 200 hundred mile adventures have changed to riding my bicycle 200 miles in one day on gravel. This coming spring maybe I’ll get back to doing some sailing. 👍. All is well thanks!
Hey I’ve got a question about your centerboard. I’ve also got a CLC Pocketship and this past weekend the centerboard got stuck in the up position and won’t go down. Is that the same problem you had and if so how did you fix it? I’m not sure if the best way to access and fix the problem.
@@jbratt well I got the boat up and turns out my bump with a sandbar I couldn’t see got some rocks and pebbles stuck up in there. I butchered a Christmas lawn ornament to get a long thin rod to get up in there and got the rocks out and the board finally dropped while I got it up on a boat lift. But since I’m the boats second owner it’s the first time I’ve seen the centerboard and I have no idea if it’s supposed to wiggle a bit or not. Lol hopefully I’m good to launch again tomorrow.
@@iluvgrouphugz It's good you got it sorted out. Yes, the centerboard does have a bit of wiggle room. There is a pocket ship forum at pocketship.net where there is a lot of information and active users. Be safe and have fun!
It is awesome! I have seen this video repeatedly. Thank you very much for such a professional presentation! The event itself is a real adventure for the real people! Many Russian friends ask if the Russian subtitles could be added? Please do it if possible! Regards!
By the way these are two of my garage creations: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mZxu33BCTpw.html; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7NR1aj2EKYw.html
Your meticulously precise attention to detail and outstanding craftsmanship are evident wherever one's eye settles on your beautiful craft! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous compact craft, you've done a fine job and have a great deal to be proud of.
Thank you Felix. I wish I could say more for the video 😀. It was the first one I made. There are a few more videos I made each one got better. Check out the channel. Thanks for your kind words.
I expect that the Pocketship template sailboat were regarded among the highest seaworthiness of all pocket yacht category compare than to the Weekender's template Pocket Yacht as though I have my own discretions how to configure the Pocket Yacht Class into extended to the qualified seaworthiness 1. I've wanted to do this in a Matt Layden Paradox with chine runners but I would also want a 3/4 keel about 3 feet deep. My grandmother had a fishing camp past the Baffin Bay, since the early 60's On the man made islands next to the intracoastal waterway. My brother & I would take our Hobie cat out in the summers, & explore all the bays & inlets. There are so many fishing camps. We would always take a Neilgide, antelope so we would have plenty of meat the whole summer. My brother had a whole made little barge with a Johnson 25. We would put our Honda 3 wheeler 110 on it, & ride it in Los Amos Creek & that's where we would always try & get a Nalgide. This had to be in 1980 or 81. My grandmother's camp was one of the oldest because she had giant palm trees around her camp. She had an old Army diesel generator. Back in the early 80's you could throw a cast net & catch good size shrimp. I sure miss the good ole days of growing up in South Texas, or the Coastal Bend as Joe Gazin always called it.
Is you solar panels generate energy for the boat? That is a 50 w panel right? I am considering get a 50 w panel at the same location, but not sure how it performs.
I can’t remember the wattage but it keeps my battery topped of for a 5 day trip. All the lights I have a LED. I run my GPS and depth finder all day. I also run a couple of fans inside the cabin all night. I also charge my phone. I don’t put much strain on the system. It is capable of much more.
I have just binged watched a couple of your videos, really nicely done, thanks for taking me on the journey through the inter-coastal waterways of Texas, we dont really have anything like that here in Australia. I have just bought a 20' trimaran to do this type of adventure sailing, in rivers and lakes, the Texas 200, Everglades challenge and race to Alaska are really inspirational.
Looking out my backyard at a lovely sailboat which I rescued from certain oblivion mast and as new sails and mast on Keppel island definitely urged me to get off my back side and go to sea she's a look of a North sea Nordic boat clinker sided grp hull with bowsprit. So finish my beer and start work on her. Marty
No probs mate now found a bowsprit needs replacement rest is ok got A good mate was secretory of the Keppel sailing club soon as NSW people can get into Qld then it's all on bud send pics soon as I have sorted bloody technology at 72 not out bit average re computer shit thanks Marty
I use the Honda 2.3. It was the smallest available. The boat designer says the 2.0 was big enough but I couldn’t find one. If I had it to do over I would find one with a longer shaft because when I have needed it the water has been pretty rough and the propeller would come out of the water. With a long shaft you have to be careful the rudder doesn’t contact the prop. This is a really old video I have done a lot of sailing since this was made. Check out the exams 200 videos. The quality of the videos get much better. Thanks for watching.
The boat has been sitting out in the weather and is in much need of maintenance . This summer I moved it inside to work on in the shop. The work will start this winter when the temperatures cool down. One way or another I hope the boat will sail the 200 next year. It could be me or someone that buys it from me 😀
@@jbratt saunds depressing… there are clubs for small boat owners. Maybe someone will buy it from you there. In EU there is a big interest for trailer sailers. Specifically now during Covid times. I would definitely buy it from you if you would be in EU.
It's been a few years since I built it. There are options so the best thing to is check the Chesapeake Light Craft web site for current prices. They are great to work with.
I'll stick with the R2AK...I like scenery and 4 seasons each year. But to each their own...I grew up in TX and just never want to return. The sailing up here is hit or miss, but always has beautiful mountian veiws but frequently it either isnt blowing or is too stronf
