About me: I'm a Software Engineering student who has an interest in video games (especially indie games with fascinating stories and nuanced characters). I go by the pronouns he/they.
One thing that I didn't see mentioned in the video and document (maybe I missed it): special skills in battle work off of TP (Tension Points). This is most likely also a reference to the "Fiction" metanarrative of the game. You gain it by literally just barely scraping by danger and by defending (i.e. doing nothing, which also sets more tension). From a reader's perspective, the protagonist just barely avoiding a nasty attack is tense.
I don't think escapism as a theme will play a huge part, especially in the weird route (due to Noelle's opinions on the dark worlds and Kris' behavior.) Escapism was the theme of chapter 2's antagonist and part of its story already and I think it will take a back burner. My whole idea however relies on the assumption of the Holiday family being the main focus of the game. Assuming we only have 7 chapters: Chapter 4 is most likely the church as you said. We already had Rudy directly state he was going to the chruch tomorrow and the other religious characters will probably join (Alvin, Noelle, maybe Toriel again???) I have no clue what chapter 5 could be its honestly the one I have the least idea of. Out of all the potential locations I think Flower King or a area we haven't seen yet has the most possibility. I do not think the hospital will be a dark world location at all. I think chapter 6 will be the "True Lab" esq section of the game, perhaps giving us Gaster's actual entries besides Entry 17, showcasing his discovery of dark worlds and how he got split across time and space (a small hope of mine: he created a dark world within a dark world within yet another dark world. Dark, darker, yet darker.) Gaster will be the link between the 'Holiday family' plot with the 'Freedom from Fate/Control' plot. Otherwise it could be based on Dragon Blazers/Classic RPG games. Dragon Blazers has been treated as whats basically a in-universe representation of Deltarune, and if any chapter were to get extremely meta, it would be chapter 6. I think Noelle will be the one to cause the final dark world/the roaring. "Angel's Heaven" as a thing to banish is such a specific phrase to use with all of Noelle's angel & general religious connections. Multiple characters call her an Angel, the Spamton-Sweepstakes refers to her specifically as "The Angel with Tattered Wings," some of the deltarune designs shown in game have 'wings' placed closer to the top of the sphere and look more like the antlers in certain Noelle sprites. The rest of the Fun gang is linked to Devil symbolism instead. Theres too many links for it to be ignored. As for why she does it, perhaps out of grief/rage, looking for a way to save her father (if he hasn't died yet) using the magic she gets from dark worlds or sister using the knowledge gained from chapter 6's dark world. If Dess is found, she will help the Trio of heroes confront Noelle. If there are more than 7 chapters (chapters 0 and 8-10 all have pre-made graphic intros for some reason, it may mean nothing, however) we will have a lot more time to resolve some of the other massive hints and background details in the game. Hometown is extremely weird and theres so many potential plot-threads going on that ive started to kinda ignore a lot of them to boil it down to the essentials of the story, which is why I focus on the Holiday family a lot, as every important event and character seems to link to that family in some way. But this is also a flaw I am fully aware of. Other thoughts I hope become real: Kris is the one who interrupts the Vessel creation process. Kris is the Knight. The Knights goal isn't to cause the end of the world. I think these 3 all together would be incredibly interesting as a story possibility and would subvert the idea of Kris despising us that the fandom currently has. Kris Knight is the cleanest explanation on who the knight is. Ch2's ending recontextualizes its own beginning and Ch1's ending, Kris didn't just eat the pie, they shambled across town to open a dark fountain, plugged in their own tv and than ate the pie (either to force their mom to make another with Susie or just to get some food.) Noelle's mom is being set up the same way Asgore was in Undertale, so maybe it'll be her and not Noelle? Who knows. I have no clue on where the weird route is going, so I won't comment on it.

1:17:00 You know I can absolutely see Rudy being the JRPG trope of the "Veteran Powerhouse" that joins your party and absolutely steam rolls everything only to have a sudden tragic and unavoidable event that kills/incapacitates him to remove him from the party just as you were starting to grow reliant on him.
I think the roaring in the end of deltarune is going to open a dark world that covers all of home town and that dark world will be undertale, making deltarune a prequel
One thing I'm wondering now is if the game might have a progression similar to Shadow the Hedgehog, where multiple sub-endings exist, but you get the one true ending by going through all of them (might explain the 3 save slots, one might need to get a different ending in each for the true ending)
So uhh…here is my INCREDIBLY CONTROVERSIAL AND LONG THEORY (ICALT) Chapter 3 and 4 is pretty self explanatory. Toriel, Undyne and Napstablook come in Chapter 3 and Rudy, Catty, Noelle, Jockington and the other guy at the church. (I forgo-) Then there’s chapter 5, the bunker. Kris, after reflecting on their past friendship with the Holiday Family, decides to finally face their fears. This dark world is a manifests the fears of any Lightner who dares step in. After this insane trip down memory lane, and some cool characters development with Susie, we meet the Knight. Or should I say, “Knights”. Yes you read that right. There are TWO Knights: Papyrus and Dess. Dess was stranded here after getting lost while traveling home after a Whiffle-Ball game, and discovered the bunker Gaster made. She quickly discovered how these worlds could be manipulated and altered, so she starts causing havoc, thinking that the people she’s hurting don’t exist when the fountain is closed. Papyrus was trying to fix the plumbing in their room, and Darkness spilled into the room. He meets Dess and does the EXACT same thing they do. Dess is also responsible for Jevil’s insanity, telling them that their life is a board game. Anyway, the duo fight these two, and end up convincing them that what they are doing is wrong. While all of this is happening, Kris has an hypothesis. Kris has been endlessly trying to escape us, and now they get enough Dark World Knowledge to do so. Ralsei tells Kris and Susie that they’ll have close the fountain soon, but Dess STILL can’t find their way home. So Susie takes her back home after YEARS, but Kris follows suit. Susie asks Kris what the hell they’re doing, and Kris grabs his soul, throws it on the ground and creates a dark fountain WITHIN HIS SOUL. With three fountains opened, the roaring begins. Chapter 6 is where we get our vessel back, who turned out to be a Darkner this whole time. Despite all the chaos, Kris engages in a battle with us. After we settle that. They retreat to HomeTown to figure out what to do. Everyone is panicking and screaming, the people who came with us the past chapters try to settle everyone down, and Temmie suddenly becomes an edge lord. It’s raining darkness, and all sorts of enemies, old and new, come in to fight us. After this chaotic phase, The Darkners turn into stone, but Ralsei is completely fine. Then, we finally meet the Titans. It turns out, Ralsei WAS a Titan, and we engage in an epic battle with them. Ralsei does nothing but heal us, and the Titans slowly get annoyed. We get the choice of taking down their 999 999 HP, or we try to talk them out of the roaring. Either way, we free Ralsei and banish the Titans. Chapter 7 is where there’s a big reveal in both Snow-grave and Normal routes. The Squad wonder why the sky is still dark and raining, and Ralsei explains it’s because they haven’t done the prophecy yet. But after taking a tour through destroyed Home Town and Asriel (who just came back from Collage before the roaring came and has NO IDEA what happened to Kris), they realize that WE, THE PLAYER, were the Angel. After some heartfelt good byes, we finally ascend into the clouds… From this point onwards, the entire game is just a cutscene showing what happened after the Roaring. Dess goes to collage, the Bunker gets removed by Ms Holiday, and Gaster finally reveals himself. When he meets Kris, he seems fascinated, but never tells us why. Then, at long last, we learn that people in HomeTown need a permit for opening a fountain, and it has to be closed within a week. Then, finally, we see Kris getting up from bed in the middle of the night, and walking out of his room. We hear them walking out of their house. And then, the camera floats above HomeTown, seeing Kris breaking into the school, and creating a fountain in the closet. And after that, the credits roll… Thanks for reading my ILACT! okay i'm sorry if others have already said this, but it's just bothering me too much. not every character arc is a "redemption arc"! a redemption arc involves a villainous character being "redeemed" by becoming heroic.
If we go off the pattern of Spamton and Jevil being items or concepts that are forgotten or hated, Tenna may be the secret boss just because those went so heavily out of style.
If you ever beat birdley with violence you cannot ever save his arm. I learned that the hard way when I kept trying to beat the queen by mercy, but even at 100% birdley losses his arm.
@@madeline1714 I don't what? Yes, it is. It has nothing to do with the fact that theories aren't for and against essays and they don't have to feature or focus on presenting counters. Confirmation bias isn't born when you don't present counter evidences anyway ;P
I have always said that Tobyfox already has the entire story planned out, all he is doing this years is coding the game. That means that his story cannot be influenced by recent events, since he invented this story before undertale. I think that is one of the most important requirements when making a Deltarune Theory.
Kinda yeah, but not. Some elements may still be influenced/changed The entire story is surely already written down (at least the most important plot points)
i think the ending wil define our status with kris well either learn to coexsist and share the control or well be put out of kris body and never see anyone again(we could also get our own body maybe if well collect all shards and get the vessel back)
I think Rudy will probably pass away in chapter 4, because the number 4 is associated with death in Japanese culture (and Toby is a big fan of Japanese culture)
Honestly? I have the headcanon that the roaring will trap people in their ideal lives. Fake happiness, basically. I've always love that idea of being put in a perfect reality and realizing it isn't what you truly want.
10:26 I don't think it's freedom from _our_ control, because if anything we are forcing Kris to make very bad choices that they themselves would never make. It's going to be freedom from whatever prophecy is supposed to take place. Seam makes it known that there are some things bound to happen regardless of what we do, it just might be that the weird route is our way of breaking the plot of the game through weird and uncharacteristic choices to force a different outcome.
if you’re making an hour long video on your ultimate theories with deltarune, you don’t need to be shy about being speculative! I was expecting this to be a lot more in depth, but once it got to your predictions, you seemed unsure to share them?
I find it odd you don’t think noelle is strong enough to be the heavens Angel. They make it pretty blatant that she’s a lot stronger than we’re lead to think in chapter 2. Also there’s no way with a game with this much thought and foreshadowing that important characters call her an Angel as a sort of metaphor; that feels more like the surface level feeling we’re supposed to get, when in actuality they are talking about the LITERAL Angel
The Weird Route being an allegory for breaking the bounds of a video game and defying fate is just so clever, now that I think about it. Practically not hinted at anywhere in the game, you have to do a lot of nonsensical things that derail the plot.
With the recent Deltarune news, I believe that Chapter 4 will be the chapter that celebrates Undertale's 10th anniversary with characters like Flowey appearing in the chapter, we could also get lots of area references to Undertale in chapter 4's dark world which is where I believe to be Asgore's flower shop. A perfect setting for the dark world that celebrates the Undertale franchises 10th birthday. It makes perfect sense for Toby to release Chapter 3 and 4 in September of 2025
For chapter four, it could be caddy as like a rival because which craft in spells can be taken away from crispy and individual religion. As like bad i'm not saying it's bad
Your choices may not matter in the end, and you may not be able to choose who you are in this world but. What YOU do with YOUR life ultimately does matter. It may not matter to the indifferent cruelty of this world. But you shouldn't just let your view be clouded by it. I believe that your choices, at the very least, to YOU... Do, indeed matter. The destination is nothing, without the journey. Death has no purpose without life.
I feel like Chapter 6 will be FAR more horror focused. Hell, something I can see happening at the end is, instead of fighting the thing in the bunker, you have to escape while it's chasing after you.
