I thought about this long and the conclusion I came to is that the movie intentionally disregards that life is LONG. When you say it is a romantic story you should have brought the definition of romance to the front for the viewer. You use the word romantic like an adjective all the time about the movie but that romanticizing obscures more than it illuminates. I will give you an example: Keating says law, medicine, architecture in the end - professions - are what you make money with but only love, romance, and dreams are what make life worth living. In this, he might be correct but he is throwing away the baby with the bathwater. What about the dream of becoming an architect? What about those passionate industrious people that (like a cousin of mine) say when they are 5 years old ''I want to be a doctor'' and then make it their lifes passion? My point is that The movie is overly romanticized and oversimplified. It is done to achieve a point (and narrow the scope of the audience's attention) but it is done quite intentionally. Time is contracted, ''Carpe Diem'' is said very correctly but without perspective. Life is long and the kids are young they will have time enough to grow, make mistakes, learn from them and continue. The more important lesson I believe (besides paying attention to your life and savoring it) would have been to teach them to look at common things like books, professions, seasons and people and teach them to see the passion in them, to make them passionate about whatever they endeavor to do. This is a great movie when it is the first one you have seen in the genre. Once you have watched enough films, you realize this is nothing more than a remake of the same film that was made countless times previously.

It’s had to accept that Neil committed suicide. This movie really didn't end well for me. After Todd found his voice to speak up, the movie should have continued. It's sad how parents forced their kids to do what they think is best for their children but never ask them what they actually want to do. This is my second time watching this movie today. I cried a lot tho. I wish every parent or guardian and teachers as well watch this movie. O captain, my captain

I saw this 30yrs ago and am watching it now and it's lost none of its power to move, to get u involved in their daily struggles of youth, girls and parental acceptance but more so wanting his parents to actually be aware of him as an individual and see that he's not going to follow the same old route set down by dad and all who've gone before on the route to lawyer dom or doctor dom!!! Thanx to Mr. Keating for opening his unseeing eyes and make him maybe seize the day!!
I watched the movie. I'm very late to the club but I'm glad that i finally watched it. was expecting ending to be more happier but it wasn't. i always feel so raged when someone just doesn't do anything because if fear from parents and teachers and anyone who cannot harm you. in my whole life my parents always told me to do what i want but the sad thing is i myself don't what i want. carpe diem.
I have watched this movie every year on the anniversary of robins passing it is my favourite dramatic roll of his he is incredible in it it is an amazing movie and makes me cry we miss you Robin
I’m so grateful that we have an amazing history teacher. She’s just the best at motivating us to take part in her lessons while also challenging us. The fact that she relates to us students is what is truly special about her. You just cannot dislike her. She’s one of those people in my life that I’ll never forget because she taught us to think for ourselves and speak up when we have an idea. Whenever you got it right, she’ll compliment you and say “that’s awesome”. That way you start getting excited about what’s to come. I believe that she is one of the few teachers that actually care about each one of us. Thank you❣️

I have had a few teachers like Keating, back in the Seventies and Eighties. They weren’t as bright as Keating, but, like Keating, they put so much more effort in their teaching, that the other teachers seemed a bunch of lazy bums.

HAHAHA, i understand what you said. I felt that way too. I love this movie!! But i do think that movies and series are used for subversion and demoralization, that's why nowadays you see these colectivists movements on every film/tvshow.
