Home of the Copelands/Raymarine Super Fountain. A purpose built offshore race boat to break world record long distance endurance races. Powered by twin Turbomeca Turmo lll C6 turbine engines that produce a combined 3300 Horsepower and 3700 Ft Lbs. of prop twisting torque.
Amazing boat... I'm curious about the fuel efficiency of turbine boats ompared to ones with high performance V8s or V12s & turbo diesels. Maybe it doesn't matter for a race boat but what about pleasure boats.
Thanks and this is a great question. The turbines can actually be more efficient that the big blocks when comparing overall distance to fuel used at high speeds. (or to compare torque produced to fuel used), However the engines use a lot more fuel than the big blocks to idle. They burn about 3/4 a gallon per minute (1.5 gallon per minute together) at idle. So they burn a lot more fuel just idling around at 5 mph than the big block engines do. Overall they would make terrible pleasure boat engines because of the fuel burn at idle and the extreme amount of noise they generate as well
Somewhere midway through the video, flying through the swells and what looks like you are driving the boat to the edge, I hear whew-hew and laughter…now that is living your best life.
Incredible video it was like watching the space shuttle tear through the skies as it reached for the stars....as to what you may of hit....is it possible it was a large fish....and if I may make a suggestion going forward have an addition helicopter fly ahead looking for possible submerged problems
It’s mind blowing I’m just now finding out this race boat exists. There’s so many out there that participate in other events. Wish we can get more boats for offshore racing. So tired of seeing the same ones every season
Andy, I'm really hoping for your kidneys sake you have a suspension seat? LoL. Great job anyway & thank you for going to great lengths to share this experience with us mere mortals.
I blame this on the APBA. A few weeks ago the new APBA rules came out and they ruled to no longer allow the helmets with the solid mic booms to be used in canopy race boats. All of our smaller helmets had the solid mic booms and were not allowed to be used for this race. Cody had not choice but to use a helmet that wasn't the perfect fit. Just another instance where safety rules cause a more unsafe condition than the rule was designed to correct.
Did you hit the lottery too? My friend has one of those but, he hit for 10 million. Maybe you have heard of him, Richard Chaney Jr. Southern Md Rebel Racing. Mary Mac is the name of his boat. I felt bad for him when he was in the same race in Solomon's Md. with my other buddy's in Miss Geico
