I LOVED this game, it was a staple in my HS experience I use to either half ass or skip my class work in computer lab to play it, sneaking off to the sites that hosted it while the teacher was occupied or not watching, switch back to the lesson when they would such nostalgia!

Incredibly slick editing and pacing. Fits the game itself down to a tee and makes the video all that more engaging. Much love <3

A gem of platform I found recently is Revita - wonderful aesthetics, banging soundtrack and some creative design choices around level setup, scaling, etc. Just commenting to put on your radar since it seems to jive well with this sorta thing.

When I was younger me and my brother, mother, and father would all play N+ and later N++ co-op levels together so this series is so dear to me. The great thing about co-op levels in these were every level is designed for 2 players to beat but with 4 players, it would stick 2 players in each section that was designed for 1 player. This basically meant me and my brother would always try to pair up with one parent each to spread the skill and our parents would struggle but still feel like they were succeeding because we were passing levels. I really miss it and playing it with my family, maybe I’ll try to organize it again when I go home for Christmas this year.

Yo, this is some good stuff. N was a freaking staple for so many of us. Most importantly, we could have proper contests at school on our crappy IT PCs.

It's wild how many people I've found on youtube and think "I like this vibe, I'll check out more of their stuff" and then whilst going through their created content I find some form of Dark Souls love thrown in. The "N" video brought me here, this video and the souls clip sold me. Excited to see what you create in the future my dude. ight imma hout now

Dark Souls seems like one of those rites of passage for any content creator, shits so good. I got a video in the oven for it, I would say stay tuned but this current one is taking long enough lol. Thanks for stopping in! And I see what you did there at the end lmao

I didn't even know this ever got a console or handheld release, although I must have seen it somewhere because I always remembered it being caled "N game" or "N+", but the Flash game was the only one I ever played, and boy did I ever. Anyway, thank you for sharing this well written, tightly edited, and very heartfelt love letter to one of the best games of the Flash era. The early to mid 2000s were a beautiful time to exist on the internet, before the promised utopia of Web 2.0 left nothing but a firey dystopian hellscape of affiliate marketing blogs, e-commerce dropshippers, and whatever tf brat summer is.

i used to play the original n in-browser, often with my brother. there wasn't a co-op when we first started iirc; we'd just switch off with every death. it did a lot to inform our gaming tastes honestly. thanks for giving this game (and its subsequent iterations) the attention it deserves. i played n+ a bit on the xbox 360, but we just didn't like it as much as the original n. n++ looks fantastic though, and i'll have to play it.

For me, 10 years ago, N was easily the most fun option on the internet after finishing your school work early in the computer lab. Played the heck out of N+ too on my DS, thanks for making this.

Man this video was such a fun ride and a trip to nostalgia. While I never had a console so I can't count N+, I really enjoyed N v 1.4 during the Flash years from elementary to high school (and its Nreality modded version that allowed custom backgrounds and even more gameplay features!!) and when N++ came out it was fascinating to see how much effort they put into having color schemes, background music, new enemies and levels and redefine what they started all those years ago. Just glad there's enough viewers and commenters on this vid showing a good amount of people having had fun with N too on their younger years. Just want to add that personally, N v. 1.4 will remain peak to me -- if only at least due to Nreality existing on how even more moddable levels and your ninja is in a way that N++ doesn't do, plus how user created level maps are easier to make and copy, as they are basically long strings of text you can save to a text file without needing online integration whatsoever (and Numa did exist online where you can share maps if you wanted to). Not to mention all the art people have done with the levels, some of which were shown here to be fair.

I had N+ on 360 and DS as a kid and absolutely loved them, but never even realized the differences, or just chalked them up to the same minor ones you'd see in handheld versions of most games. Anyway, I just immediately bought N++ on Steam after finishing this video and I can't wait to revisit this game.

Compared to other platformers, N feels really slow when you open it after a long while, but that works in its favor. The thoughtfulness put into the nuances of the physics engine and level layouts practically defines the game; one is given exactly enough time to process what happens while still making the execution aspect difficult enough to feel interesting. It rarely felt like beating a level amounted to muscling down the appropriate inputs required, but rather adjusting a physical engine meant to feel out and react to the world as it existed. Few games have the runtime to even use that sort of knowledge or make it feel necessary to learn, and for that reason N++ had to be impossibly long (also to dissuade "didn't play for a long time, new file" syndrome ;p). The difficulty comes along so smoothly, you might not even notice how much wisdom you accumulate by the time something much harder steps in. That's why I played it almost daily for the four years of high school I had and finished the whole damn thing; by the time I walked away, I understood so much more about abstract physical interactions and I'd gotten decently good at keyboarding, to boot. It also left me feeling like making a good platformer at this point would need to begin from somewhere entirely different, because so many core interactions and differing gameplay styles have been crushed to perfection... I used to think that it might not've been good to approach making one at all, but Raigan himself may have changed my mind! I've been playing GD lately, trying to see if there's something new to make... ;)

Ah, N. When this just appeared in the flash games circle, it really stood out. There were a few great titles, but N was head and shoulders more refined than any other platformer out there. Fancy Pants Adventures was the closest competition it had, but it was way shorter. 4200 levels though, holy crap. They're well on their way to outpacing Doom in sheer quantity of content.
