I was tired of the "Is Mega Man dead?" discourse. I haven't seen a body yet. Go play some Mega Man. music: The Protomen - Built to Last • The Protomen - Built T... sources: drive.google.com/file/d/18Bmi...
@@Nathan-rb3qp I want ZX3 more than anything, but I accepted long ago that it was never going to happen ☹️, not by Capcom at least. But there's no point in getting hung up on that, there are so many fan projects both released or in the works right now, with Megaman X you have Corrupted, which will be the best Megaman X game ever once it finally releases, and Innocent Impulse, which has a really promising demo out. Knot Beret just released too, a fun Megaman X4 fangame where you play as one of the average repliforce footsoldiers instead.
@@Frosted_Moontips You don't understand... We were a week away from a playable demo dropping on the eShop. We had gameplay footage. About 45% of the game's concept art was submitted by fans. At the time, MML3 was already considered an imbossibility brought to life. We were mere weeks away from having it, at long last, after a long hard battle. Then it gets cancelled due to Inafune's drama and "poor fan support." It's not easy to move on from a loss like that.
@mythosinfinite6736 I don't bother responding to snark from 12 year olds. Otherwise, they would have been well aware it was the worst of ideas to end MML2 the way they did.
This is my favorite game series ever, and this video shows why. The fans really are passionate, and we create, we get inspired, and we love to talk about our favorite moments. It's the reason I am a programmer in the first place.
If only your passion for Megaman could inspire those Street Fighter and Resident Evil obsessed executives at Capcom to make more Megaman games... (sigh).
I've been through a roller-coaster of emotions when it comes to Mega Man, being there when the series was "dead," seeing its revival, and being here for the wait of hopefully another new title. I needed something like this to remind me that Mega Man will still be here through all of us, even if a new game doesn't show itself for a long, long time. Thank you for making this, really. ❤
Marvel vs Capcom rerelease, fan games, preservation projects, fan translations, collection releases, we're eating better than we'd like to admit. Not a lot of "New" content in official game terms, but the series IS still getting entries in various ways. We're not starving, but we're not getting the 5 Star Dining we're asking for. But we're still getting the affordable buffet.
It's weird how after MM11, that was it. No update on future games and the producer left. It's hard to stay optimistic about this series, when we don't even know about it's future or what Capcom has planned. And, I'll be honest it doesn't seem like that they have anything happening (probably not for another 5-6 years at least). Considering that the producer left, and the fact that Mega Man games are niche and they don't sell all that well.
They did come out with X Dive, and have been making their older games (Zero/ZX, Battle Network) availible again. They just released a big survey drop that shows theyve been talking to fans again. I agree they are pretty niche but anything could happen, CAPCOM has been doing real good recently. Just look at SF6
@@skippy7552 Yeah, SF6 did really good, although to be fair, SF has always been more popular than Mega Man and has always outsold it. X dive was kinda short lived and wasn't that by Capcom Taiwan? I think Capcom already knows that we want more games, but they gotta look at sales and figure out how Mega Man can bring in more newcomers while not alienating their older audience which isn't easy. I feel like the only way that can do that is if they revamp the formula, like for an example, if they were to make an MM12 but it be in 3D and have it very easy to newcomers, it could work.
MM11 to me is like a PSP game we never got that finally ended up on Switch. lol But it's cool. I liked the PSP games. If they wanna go 2.5D moving forward, why not? I never stopped loving the 8 bit games though. 9 and 10 were freaking AWESOME!
@@MacUser2-il2cx 2.5D is cool and I like it, but I think if they're really trying to get new people into this franchise and get those really big sales that Capcom wants, putting it into 3D would be the way to go. As long as it's not a mess like X7.
@@marcusmayo Imagine an open world ZX-style game but in 3D, set in a post-apocalyptic world after Thomas tries resetting it. All with a Z-Targrting system that turns the dash into more of a strafing mechanic.
I think that once Capcom finishes up the Legacy collections they'll have to start making a new mega man game. Here's hoping for the Starforce collection soon.
I love this video so much! I cant tell you how many times ive heard "megaman is dead" and i cant tell you how many times ive said hes not dead the fans do too much for him to be dead rather capcom releases a game or not. This video is the ultimate proof! Thank you!
There's no Mega Man Legends collection yet either. That would include Tron Bonne and the short episode that takes place before it. Legends would also have to have both the N64 and PS-One versions as well as Legends 2. It also needs to include all the Japanese versions of the games. Still that's less than the other collections. Toss in the beta for Legends 3! >:D
Here’s more positivity to add, remember all those other previously canceled games that were brought back from the dead? Such as Metroid Dread, StarFox 2, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, Streets of Rage 4, and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves? (correct me if I’m wrong on these, feel free to add more to this list). You never know, Capcom could do the same for Megaman Legends 3 if they wanted, ideally it would be in their best interest to bundle it with a hypothetical Legends Legacy Collection to add more value to it, there was even that leaked Rockman Taisen we still haven’t heard about yet, unless that was just X-Dive all along, that’s my guess.
I love this video. I've always been in the mindset that we aren't really in another "Dark Ages" and even if we don't get anything new for a while, there's so many games to keep replaying, and new fangames come out often enough to where we always have something new to talk about. Thanks for making it!
You know what's crazy about the fangame side of megaman? That mm8bdm fangame? it got a submod that lets you play as ALL robot masters and over the years, people kept chugging along and added more and more to the point the roster is 133 different characters and its somehow one of the most fun multiplayer first person shooters ever. Its no secret megaman fangames go to the stratosphere, but the stuff done in MM8BDM as a whole is amazing, a decade's worth of good content i tell you.
Yeah that mod is very nice just sad the game itself got worse over the years The most recent chapter got a little better by changing the formula for the better (which is funny as it comes right after the chapter that did the opposite) But then it just takes a nose dive with the final battle being very cheap, easy, and the story being downright sonic fanfic levels of stupid But again the large majority of the game is good if I have to say it starts getting bad on v5 then hits rock bottom on v6
Gotta shill Make A Good Mega Man Level 3 which is the best MM tribute I've seen. It's not just the fan levels, but the levels, arenas and minigames that the staff built in an open world. This game might take me a year to finish!
this might be the best tribute to all of megaman! now i'm just excited to play again, thank you mr. skippy. thanks for pointing out all the fangames and then the inspired games as well! and the proto-men song! so amazing, capcom should be paying you for this! (jeez i sound like i'm a ten year old again)
The Protomen - Built to Last, its the hidden boss song of that band, it isnt anywhere online officially anymore. Good luck, zoning is tricky on ultimate!
Beautiful video, fills my E-Tank with hopium. The art direction for the Sm4sh reveal to the double tempo shift? A thing of beauty. Such an apt song and a beautiful, inspiring message.
Please let this video blow up! I've seen so much talk about how mega man is dead, yet I see fangames and other community projects flourishing People need to see that, while what we may not have games getting pumped out the way they were in the 90s, we still have something beautiful: the will to keep this franchise alive *_Fight, Mega Man!_* *_For everlasting peace!_*
The unanimous hype when that Smash 4 trailer came up will never be topped. We can go decades without a single new game, and that still won't wipe away the impact the blue bomber had on gaming.
I'm a MM2 speedrunner (with LOTS of rust, lmfao), and this franchise has been right at the very top of the list of stuff that got my blood pumpin' as a kid. 30+ years later, and it's still got loads to offer. And the fan games you showcased are absolute FIRE. Rock & Roll and Unlimited are brutally difficult, but feel great to play, and have OSTs that rival anything Capcom has put out. These fans have put so much love and sauce into those games... But imagine if you had THIS song with the video: *"Mega Man" by Psychostick (cover of "Magic Man" by Heart)* ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-naogC9vl2cU.htmlsi=NXkJzj8Ix-NTa9IC
Glad you liked it! Thank you for helping keep the fan base alive long enough to pass the torch to my dumb ass in the 2010s. I remember really wanting a mega man unlimited shirt when I was playing it in highschool. Cheers, hope mega man lasts the entirety of 20XX
Thank you more making this, I'm sick of everyone fearmomgering that MM is dead again. Yea we haven't gotten a new game in a while but MM is in a transitional phase- Capcom is releasing collections to see how we like certain games. MMLC showed there was definite interest in the series, so we got MM11. Likewise, MMXLC got us Rockman X Online, which was a game that had years of support. Megaman almost died in the 2010's because the 2000s had a billion games and Inafune left, so Capcom wants to take it slow to see what works.
This video put a big smile on my face, thanks!! To any battle network fans out here, go play Shanghai EXE, it's a complete fan made battle network game that's on par (or even above) the official titles. If you also happen to be a Touhou fan you'll enjoy the fact that the characters are all adapted from those games.
@@GenghisConnThr333 the original devs were accepting donations and eventually got hit by a dmca, but they had almost finished the game and some other devs took their last build, finished it and translated it to English. The only thing that's left now is finishing the post game, which there is only a small bit of, but the main game is completely finished and translated.
@MechanicalRabbits IIRC, the actionable reason for c&d was that they were using actual megaman assets in their game, such as images of X and Zero on chips
Shoutout to the description you wrote dude, I know nowhere enough people see those. "I haven't seen a body yet. Go play some Mega Man." That goes so hard.
I just got back into Mega Man X a couple weeks ago and my anew love for the franchise is stronger than ever. It was one of my go to games back in the SNES days. I never got around to the Legends or Zero games then but I have a strong desire to play and complete them now. Any news on a Legends Collection?!
We’re eating good only because we have fans that can program with a damn. It would seem that Capcom cares less about the franchise…. Especially after the survey they did and just ignored it completely.
God dam, I’ve only become interested in the Mega Man series recently, and it’s incredible seeing how passionate all of you fans are. Hopefully one day, you’ll see a Legends 3 🤞🤞
People need to remember that if they expect Capcom to rush out Megaman games, we'll just get games like X6, barely playtested, and an overall unfun mess.
New game or not, it's always insane to think about how massive this series was at it's zenith with sheer variety of genres and aesthetics - and how such a massive amount of games could be so consistently good. This video fucking rules. Thanks for making it.
4:04 Wasn't expecting to see my meme fanart make it into this video (the "my day be so fine" one) If only you picked one of my Mega Man fanart pieces I'm a bit more proud of 😭 But real talk, even though I think Mega Man has once again entered another hibernation period, I've been tiding myself over easily by reading all the manga he's had that I bet very few people have read. That, plus drawing stuff for him. It's the fan spirit that keeps the Blue Bomber alive.
Hope everything was sourced properly, I really liked that picture it made me laugh! The Sonic crossover comics were not bad at all, you should check em out if you haven't yet
@@skippy7552 Glad you got a laugh out of it! I've read the entire Archie run of Mega Man, including the crossovers. Worlds Collide was pretty great, and Worlds Unite... exists. I've been focusing on Ikehara's and Izuki's Rockman manga, which are interesting reads on their own right. While I think I still prefer Ariga's Megamix/Gigamix mangas, Izuki's take on Mega Man is really refreshing to read!
I learned patience being a sonic fan from 2018 - 2021. So now I'll be patient as a megaman fan. Btw I just love this part 2:35. It gives me the impression of a hero returning from to take back the podium!! The light effects shining off him gave me that strong impression
Considering how 6 ended, I'm not sure how they'd go about adding another entry to this branch, but I'd jump at the chance to play a Battle Network 7 in a heartbeat
I have been getting into Mega Man lately, man i fell so in love with Mega Man 3... But truthfully, there is so much in the Mega Man series already, that you don't need more, and they still hold up.
I discovered this in 2017, watched a bit of the OVA in 2020, and I absolutely loved the Megaman megamix and gigamix manga. This is an amazing tribute btw!
