I almost forgot to crack a beer, sorry, hahaha... The guys of "The UK Connection" on Sea Of Tranquility talk about beer, I just drink it. I was a lucky guy on that auction! I´m negotiating a deal on an OG "Leprosy" right now for a fantastic price, fingers crossed...
I was just lucky I guess, hahaha... When the UK guys were here we just saw a copy of "Spiritual..." for 150 Euro. Let me just tell you I got both of the records together for under 100....
Great video, Jürgen, and an experiment with some VERY interesting results! I was a teenager when most of these albums came out and the likes of Demanufacture, Om and Supercharger were some of my earliest favourite metal albums. I have also not listened to any of them in a long time, other than Supercharger, which has a couple of songs that still hold up for me, but most of it sounds like garbage to me, these days! Very surprising to hear that you still - or, in fact, ever did - enjoy it! I never really got into that Slipknot album, but it has some good songs on it, and I love the first 2. Again, not listened to those in years. You've inspired me to dig some of this stuff out myself and take another listen. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing! 😂 Cheers! 🤘
It was a cool experience to go back in time! Believe me, I was quite surprised about the result myself. I obviously did not grow up with that kind of Metal but I enjoyed some of it when I was in my 20s. Good memories were made, especially on the Dynamo Festivals in the 90, hehehe... Don´t worry, it will never be my go-to choice when I pull out a record, hahaha... oh well, maybe that Slipknot album falls in the "classics" category for me now, sorry!!!
Haha, I never DISLIKED Vol. 3, it just didn't grab me like the first 2. As I say, I'm gonna revisit these, and see what I think in 2024. Younger know, I may put it down as a classic now, too! 😂
I didn't mind some of the Soulfly stuff but they're definitely on the spin again to see if they end up in Josh's vclt pile 😂 Something makes me think you've slowed down buying this year which is far from a bad thing because all these I need to revisit at some point although I don't own Super Charger but I'm guessing I've probably heard a song here and there. Slipknot was one of the first bands I found in the wild on my way back towards metal. Make sure you eat better before you do anything rash 😅🍻
Between 1995 and 2005 I enjoyed only a handful of albums in that style. I just wanted to see if I still like them. Like many others I never denied my musical history, I grew up being a Metalhead and a Thrasher, added some Death Metal... then the 90s came... oh well, hahaha... All clear now, I´m back to normal, Exciter playing in the background. We have a saying here in Germany: Six beers equal a Schnitzel but then you had nothing to drink with it!
Great rant! One of the worst things is when they add a bunch of bonus tracks starting on the B-side, but it's not enough - congrats it's a double LP with a etching you look at once, and the price goes up. Cheers!
Yeah, exactly, leave the album alone as it was supposed to be!!! One thing becomes very obvious to me now is: Old pressings are usually very thin and sometimes contain more than 50 minutes of music (Maiden i.E.). "Experts" say it sounds horrible if yout on more that 21 minutes on one side. Why do the old pressings then sound better than remastered versions on two LPs on 45 rpm?????????? The old Death records on Under One Flag sound better than the remasterd Relapse pressings, same as the example I used in the video: Razor....
My wife brought me some beer back from her trip to eastern Canada, got her to check for some Voivod beer for you, no luck! I’m just super happy she didn’t bring me back a Slipnot cd 😂 Cheers brother
That Slayer is shit. Seasons was the last great one - I dont mind God hates but that's it. Fear Factory - good album that, however Soul of a new machine is my favourite, love how the second half is grind core. Biohazard is good, but State of the world address is better. Machine Head - only the debut for me - they really have a shit discography lol. I am not a nu metal fan at all - I stuck with death thrash and black metal all the way ha !
Back in the 80s Slayer wrote great ALBUMS, later they just wrote good SONGS, big difference, huh? Yes, indeed, Soul of a new Machine is better, I saw them on that tour supporting Cannibal Corpse. All of that was just an experiment for me, trust me, I´ll stick to my guns, hahaha....
Hi Jurgen!!! for a moment i thought you have seeing the light brother, lol....... amen i was wrong!!!! Not a big fan of Korn (have one in my collection - "Issues") Soulfly, Slipknot, Fear or Factory to have some cds in my collection, maybe one or two songs. Anyhow, it's cool to see they made the cut. cheers and be well
I HAVE seen the light, beer was invented by monks, hahaha.... It was an experiment and it was good, I´ll be back to "normal" soon, I promise, hahaha...
@@albertampel4175 The proper name is Fullers London Porter. I have been to Germany very many times, so I know for sure that you have all the Beers available .
Nope, didn’t expect those choices from you, but hey, if you like it then that’s all that matters I personally had a hard time with all the Nu Metal bands and the genre period, I tried but it just didn’t click with me. First two Machine Head CD’s were good, but I dropped off after them, I was discovering Power Metal, lots of great metal coming out of Europe in the 90’s Cheers Ed 🍻
It was just an experiment but somehow an eye-opening experience. I can still live with those few albums in that genre. I liked them back in the day but I never gave up on my traditional Metal upbringing like so many others did. I was a Thrash kid in the mid 80s, by 1987 I heard Death and just added Death Metal, I never left behind old stuff that I enjoyed earlier.
Guinness is the most overrated drink on the planet in my opinion. Slayer I lost interest after seasons. Soulfly we’re and are a joke. Love you brother 😉🤘🏻
I think you'll find that Guinness is from Ireland and not the UK, but I like Guinness a lot so you are forgiven. No beer for 7 days, I think it's time for you to AUSFART Franconia! I like God Hates Us All as well, under rated. All that german metal shit is worthless really, I'll take it off your hands, that's what real mates do... 😜
My bad, sorry! To my excuse: Foreign people class Beck´s or Warsteiner as beer but it´s not!!! I know enough about Metal now so I will switch my channel to a beer channel, maybe I can get some BCLT??? Oh, I just sent out the rest of my collection to everyone who deserves it. I made a mistake though, I sent you all my Death Metal records, hahahahaha... Thank you for watching!
Love this video Jurgen. All those albums are awesome. I don't know the one from Machine Head. And that Fear Factory still holds up to this day! Thanks dude! Cheers 🍻
It was cool going back 20 years and more. I can still enjoy these albums along with all the underground s**t I´m listening to. Good experience! My lady enjoyed it as well, she grew up with those albums.
Ugh! Can't stand Guinness. Vol 3 was the last Slipknot album i bought and kept. HaHa!! just realised that the supercharger album was the last machine head album i bought and kept as well. Sepultura are great but the rest. none of their records are in my collection. The Beer Police will come knocking. 🙂🙂
Jürgen´s lawyer answering here: He´s in jail right now and about to be deported soon. He´s sorry for all the inconveniences he caused and politely asks everybody to not sue him.
I don’t mind that Slayer album, some good songs for me on it my favourite is Stain of Mind. Everytime I hear it in the car it makes me bounce in my seat 😝 while I’m screaming with it. FF, Machine Head, Korn and Slipknot are not great bands for me but I do like some songs from them
There´s only a handful of albums from that period I still like. It was an experiment and it was a cool experience... Actually my car is powered by me bouncing in the seat to "Reign in Blood", hahahaha... we don´t have a speed limit here in Germany, you know??? Hahahaha....
Jetzt machst Du mich neugierig... rote Mützen???
Interesting Jurgen! Wasnt expecting you to be into this stuff! Not heard that Soulfly album, i do prefer the later ones myslef. I've never liked Diablous by Slayer, God hates us all is much better. Never got into Fear Factory or Biohazard, but i wohld like to try some Biohazard. Supercharger isn't too bad a Machine Head album, I think it wasn't helped by the date of release. Nowhere near my favourite though. I absolutely love Vol 3 by Slipknot, much better than the first 2!! But my favourite is the next one, All hope is gone. Nice one 🤘🏻🤘🏻
When those albums came out I was between 20 and 30, I was checking out all kinds of music and enjoyed it. Unlike many others I never left behind the older stuff I liked before. It´s all about personal taste and this was a cool experience to go back 20 years and more to see if I still can enjoy those albums.
@albertampel4175 Ahh ok, that's fair enough. That's my age right now, so it makes sense you have a closer connection with some of these. But obviously the older stuff is what stuck with you. Oh yeah definitely, some people hate this stuff, others love it. All depends if you were there at the time too. I'm glad you liked going back listening to these albums to see if they still held up. It's cool a lot of them did for you 😁🤘🏻
Hahaha, Jürgen no beers and nine wives. 😂😂 What a terrible experiment.......... When Slipknot is the best listen, you have clearly listened to a lot of crap. Cheers. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
ALL CLEAR! No reason to panic! A few more beers brought back my sanity... Exciter playing in the background now, hahahaha... Seriously, I enjoyed only a handful of albums in that style between 1995 and 2005. I went back to see if I still like those. Was somewhat a cool experience... Again: I´m back to normal, hahaha....
I actually like most of these albums. Slayer after Divine Intervention is the worst, maybe worse that Metallica and and Anthrax haha. The drum on that Slipknot is killer! I was really ripped one night in 2004 at my brothers house and we listened to that one tune that has the sweet drum march in it, I do not know the name of the song for I have never owned that album. Great experiment with a surprising result.
Yeah, Slayer made good ALBUMS until "Divine..." after that they only made good SONGS. I know you´ve done a video on the more groovy stuff you listen(ed) to a while ago. You´ll enjoy that Slipknot album in it´s entirety I assume. I guess you can get it for next to nothing on CD now. Indeed some surprising results...
@@albertampel4175 I have the first slipknot album and yes, that video waa fun to do. I have been kicking around the idea of showing more of that stuff soon. I also think I will post I bass solo of a song from that Slipknot album 😂
Somehow this amazing band did not appear on my music radar until a few years ago. These albums are definitely their best. Totally agree with you on A shedding Of Skin. Then again. i like them all. Great video Jürgen.
Thank you! Yes, the old Protector were fantastic. I grew up with them, I bought the "Misanthropy" EP when it came out. They are still good but I´m very nostalgic with Protector. Let me tell you, they are a graet liveband as well.
People call it vinyls because they weren't born in the time when they were called albums or lp's - for instance, most teens i've heard they say ''those big cd's'' and when referring to turntables, ''vinyl reader'' , ''disc-reader'' or ''big cd player'' are alternative versions for the old term. Digital education has operated miracles in D-evolution !! And another thing - not all collectors are Metalheads, so they don't give a toss on the impact speculation brings to you. Thanks.
I´m amazed that young people still know what discs/CDs are, hahaha... Seriously, D-evolution is the exact right term! It´s frightening looking at young(er) people... They are all connected but connected in the wrong way. No connection to the ground they walk on and their surroundings, not even connected to themselves. Yes, I use RU-vid, yes I have a cellphone but those are tools, I know how to survive without that crap! Thank god it´s Generation Z, maybe we´ll see a new start soon?!?
Excellent Jürgen. Great band, do have it all apart from the demo tape. They did a great comeback as well, not all of the returning bands manage that. Hope for more nerdy videos in the future. Cheers. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hi Jurgen!!! So cool to hear your thoughts about Morbid Saint and see your collection too..... awesome stuff. I'm also super late to the party, don't remember ever hearing about them or seeing that album cover and also was a nice surprise/news reading about theie newest album and seeing good comments too. Btw "Spectrum of Death" looks awesome on that t-shirt. cheers and be well
Great spotlight on Morbid Saint Jurgen! This is a band I've been meaning to check out, I've wanted to get into more of the extreme Thrash bands like Dark Angel, Demolition Hammer, Sadus and Morbid Saint. Dark Angel and Demolition Hammer I have ticked off the list but not the other 2. That first album I really need to take a look at, and I wouldn't mind trying the new one 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I love so much Spectrum of Death I never checked anything else by them. I bought the Century Media gatefold in 2016 but I sold it and got the High Roller reissue. I didn't know they sped up the demo tape. That's insane.
Great video, Jürgen. As for the Black Sabbath remix version of "Forbidden", Tony Iommi said beforehand that they had never agreed with Ernie C's production from the start, but the record company had forced them. The band thought the production just "didn't sound right" and he made no secret of the fact that Ernie C was the wrong guy for the job. In this view, the production of "Forbidden" has never sounded the way it should have sounded since its release.
Oh yes, I know the story. I guess what I wanted to say is that the old version is the version I used to know and like, hahaha... It is their worst sounding album BY FAR! I saw them live on that tour in front of 400 / 500 people with Tiamat opening and Sabbath were great.
Nice collection you have there. I think Spectrum of Death is a decent album. I was guilty of seeing it as a clone of early Kreator a while back and just ignored it. Comeback albums are a hard sell to me quite honestly.
I just came back to the band because you bought the reissue while staying here, hahaha... and startd to dig deep. The one in the middle is not really a comeback, it´s just a follow up from 1992. I think it´s even better than the debut. But I do get what you mean about the 2024 release.
I aggree on everything you said. It always made me laugh about new(er) collectors especially showing the same record in 15 colour versions, because it is "cool". For me it is just show off, which comes from the instagrams and facebook, people think they are are special this way and will be praised for the fact that they have some many variants. Fuck them. It is nothing about collecting, but about showing off. At the moment I have only one album, which is in two different versions, and that is Dismember debut. I rather have the originals, or a reissue if the original is just stupid expensive, but I prefer to have different albums, not just the same thing in X variants just to put a fancy pic on instagram and expect people telling me how cool I am.
Did I say anything about 2/3s? I´ll have to watch it again.... Next time I do calculations in a video I let it check by Alan (Let´s talk Metal), he´s a professor, hahaha...
