Hi, What are the requirements for a British Passport holder to visit for a short time?...Im being told online i dont need a visa, but do i need a short term permit?
Hi Ben, with a valid British passport you don't need a visa to visit St Helena. Just make sure your passport expiry date is at least 6 months after your planned date of arrival on the island. On arrival at St Helena Airport you will be required to pay a £20 entry fee for which you will be issued a short-term visitor permit of 183 days. You will only be exempt from this entry fee if you have either of the following documents: a. A certificate of St. Helenian status b. A certificate showing you are the dependant of a St. Helenian status holder c. Hi Samuel, St Helena is actually a British island, 1000 nautical miles from Angola. The island was actually uninhabited when discovered in 1502 by the Portuguese, and although various nations would stop by it was not until 1659 that anyone settled - the British. Hi Paul, we've not had dedicated movie theatres for a good many years now, the arrival of VCRs back in the 80s & 90s changed all that, and later the introduction of broadcast TV. The Mule Yard pub will sometimes have a movie night for special occasions, and other organisations will also do something similar every now and again as a charity or novelty event. Hi Paul, we know what you mean. The times we've visited Cape Town we are always struck by how similar we all look as people and other aspects of everyday life. The island has long had close ties with South Africa, a large portion of our goods come from there and it has been the main transfer point for travel in/out from the island. The government ANRD section has a Veterinary department and in their words: "We have cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, donkeys as well as dogs, cats, fish, rabbits and guinea pigs and of course the giant tortoises at Plantation to look after." Hi RTV, thanks for the interest in St Helena. In answer to your questions: 1. No, not really, but if there are Irish people on island they may sometimes organise small, private celebration events. 2. Sure South Atlantic provide a TV service, rebroadcasting channels from MNET in South Africa. You can see the packages here: www.sure.co.sh/television/tv-channels/ 3. So we have the channels already as listed above. Also, since internet improved in October 2023, many people are now able to stream certain channels online. Hope that helps. Not anymore. Although he died on St Helena in 1821 and was buried here, his body was exhumed and removed to Les Invalides in Paris, France, in 1840. However, his tomb on St Helena and Longwood House where he was held captive are now both French property and well maintained as museum attractions. His empty Tomb on St Helena is, today, a very popular tourist attraction, as is Longwood House, his last residence. 😊

Cost of living for most people is generally high, on St Helena. With most goods, including food, being imported, this adds to the all round costs. It's tough, but people manage.
Yes, Napoleon's body is now in Les Invalides, Paris. This video shows a ceremony on St Helena, at The Tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte, on 15 October 2015, exactly 200 years since the Frenchman arrived on the island. It was to mark a significant moment in the island's history along with French dignitaries, the Island's Governor and members of the public. There is also an annual ceremony held on 5 May at The Tomb to commemorate Napoleon's death.

Hey Nuno, it was indeed the Portuguese who discovered St Helena, in 1502. Over the years ships from various countries would stop by for rest and water, however, no one actually settled the island until the British did so, in 1659. 😂😂 Hopefully we won't be needing arrestor cables anytime soon! TBH, now the airport has been operating for seven years and we get to see the flight in/out every week, it's actually not all that dramatic at all, compared to some of the airports we've seen on RU-vid from other places. There have been a couple of RAF C-17 landings since this was filmed, so the 757 no longer holds the title of largest aircraft to land at St Helena. Just got talking to a young girl from there who’s moved to Scotland 🏴 I didn’t even know it existed, it was so nice to learn about St Helena and meeting someone from there. What an interesting place. I do hope that the people are compensated well for having been colonised like that.
In 2020 I got to know this island and ever since then it became a dream for me to visit one day. I go around like insane and tell people that one day I am going to go there and write a novel about solitude. For now it seems like it is beyond my reach I am happy though becuase longing for there is keeping me going forward as someone who struggles for finding a meaning of their life. It is okay Saint Helena wait for me becuase hopefully I am going to show up there one day

A few times a week, in the late afternoons, we usually hike to a place called Cox's Battery, sit on the cliff top and just take in the amazing ocean view in front of us, in complete solitude. Hi Nurul, yes, we have internet services on St Helena provided by Sure South Atlantic. 👍 Until recently internet came via an expensive satellite link with limited bandwidth, so speeds were extremely slow and data packages were limited. In October 2023, the Island’s digital link switched from a satellite to the Equiano fibre-optic, undersea cable, which has significantly enhanced the internet service for consumers, including affordable, unlimited data plans for the first time. Hi Keith, thanks for checking out our channel and your comment. As far as we understand, Napoleon was not very impressed with St Helena and did not enjoy living (being held) in Longwood. However, when he first arrived on the island, Longwood House was not yet ready, so he spent the first two months living at The Briars. The cool climate and quiet location there suited the emperor. He particularly enjoyed the company of his hosts, the Balcombes, and strolling the surrounding gardens. His time at the Briars is said to be his happiest on St Helena. whatthesaintsdidnext.com/the-napoleon-st-helena-history-remembered-200-years-on/ “The only good thing about St Helena is the coffee,” Napoleon supposedly proclaimed. He was an avid coffee lover and a great fan of the island’s green-tipped Bourbon Arabica beans.
