Good video! I guided in Alaska in the late 80s and this is when I first started tying glowballs..I really liked it when you said there is a difference between a good glowball and a 'shit' glowball! Made me laugh because you are so right! All of us that were guiding were trying to tye the perfect glowball and it was amazing the effort we were putting into this..We finally got it right, I feel. I think the perfect glow ball is one that is somewhat dense like yours, top and bottom. We didnt use the glue underneath, we flipped the fly and tyed another small piece of glowball yarn in and cut. Also today I think I would try the gps threads in 30 or 50 denier..Liked your hack with the thread on the bobbin, I'll have to try that! Thanks!

That when a soft bait would come in handy when like that it's a shame it's only fly rod only when you should be able to take both on the water silly if you ask me but that's NZ regulations for ya lols blame the net 😂good on ya mate cheers for the video

Hey, I'm looking to do a hike / fishing trip in the north island. Ideally hike up a river and camp in a hut or doco site, fishing along the way. Do you have any recommendations. Potentially even helicopter in, walk out. Cheers

the most snaggy frigging river I have ever fished, but also one of the most enjoyable. Lovely Kiwi spot, I haven't lived in NZ for 20+ years but this video makes me miss it - love the Hatepe :-)

Monster hooks on tiny eggs? I wonder about: why does everyone on RU-vid use these monster big hooks for these small, tiny eggs? They disturb the smootness of the eggs surface and tend to snag on the bottom. I prefer to mount two windings of Lead wire on a bent hook size 16, so the egg will almost completely hide the tiny hook. The lead will position the hook to guarantee a upright Position in water , which counts for less snagging- its mostly forgotten, that the physics , weight and streaming behavior of Flies in the water is crucial for successful tackle.

Whatever works I say. This is a proven pattern that works well in NZ.

Hi Phil, nice bit of back country river, good choice in your presentation. We have been fishing the T in a few pools below the Blue and found that the naturals in #14 are taking quite well but the wind is very gusty. Tight lines, see you on the river. Harera
