Spring fly fishing action at it's best. Managed to get out for a couple of great days this week. Mainly using natural patterns but was also catching on egg patterns which I was surprised at in the clear condition. October is just around the corner which means more water opens and I can get some more variety your way. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe!

Hi mate, enjoying the evolution of the channel in a short time, and your different take on flies. Can you do a vid with a run down of your outfit and rig? Very interested in the fact you use a 10 ft rod (presumably designed for lake fishing?) and 8 wt versus the 6 wt which seems to be the way some guys are going on the T. It'd be good to hear about that. And I think you outline your preference for the dropper versus the more common in-line set up, in one of the vids, but buggered if i can find it again!! The split shot rig seems to have been discarded by most after a bit of a flurry of use a few years ago...

Hi yea that’s a good idea! Have been out of town for a couple of weeks so a bit of a content drought. And yes I generally use a 10 ft rod, it is a 7 weight. In a few of my vids I’ve been using a 9 ft 8 weight though. I find a 10 ft rod allows for better casting and mending, one of my favourite pools the hydro (which I don’t video) requires longer casts and a bit of wading, the extra foot is valuable in those situations. Will hopefully cover more in an upcoming video for you!

Hey awesome as usual man. What weight and size rod do you use for such heavy flies? And what weight line? I always have difficulty getting heavy flies out. Cheers

Thanks! It's a 7 wt 10ft Primal Raw with an 8 weight Rio Gold line. One thing that really helped my casting was doing a lot of reading about casting mechanics, the best resource for it I have found is Paul Ardens work. Google SexyLoops and you will find a gold mine of easy watching/reading casting work.

Nice video again mate! Wish I’d known you can just cross at the bottom of that pool! Save the other much longer way around! Had a cracking hr there last weekend hooking 8 fish in less than an hour!

Nice bro! Such a good pool. What way did you go? It's a real dodgy crossing to be honest, wading stick (or tree branch as I go for) and belt a must, the river was at 22-23 cumecs and I definitely wouldn't do it in any more. I took my time finding the perfect route across and did it in a V shape. I've been since and ended up going for a swim on the way back because I tried to shortcut my original route and go more direct route 😂

On The Fly NZ oh man that would have been scary! I’m a short ass too so even easier to fall over! I took the bridge and then the 25-30min walk up. Did you fish the pool just up around the corner? It was full of fish over the weekend, supposedly some guy caught 15 in a morning Czech nymphing. We fished solely those 3 pools for the day and ended up with about 15 fish between us.

@@jasoncrang1455 Yea I went back with a friend the next day when I had more time and went up and pulled a few out of there. I caught three within 30 minutes that were all just under 6lb, one of them even took me down to that cliff pool. Was amazed at the condition of those. Caught a few more and my friend also caught a few and then the pool just suddenly stopped producing after a bit of a thrashing. Do you know if the Czech Nymphing guy was Kris Stravs? He's a Czech Nymphing weapon, up there with the best in NZ I believe if not the best.

On The Fly NZ yeah all the fish we caught were in such amazing condition. Not to sure of the guys name - we were just told by some others in the area about it. Never seen so many people on the river as there was down TLB of Boulder Reach, counted 12 people at one point, literally a queue on the bank waiting their turn. Crazy

Hi Phil, yep there was a huge hatch and the rainbows were very busy eating every caddis and sedge fly. We did find the bottom of the pool you were fishing the most productive. Nice video! Harera...
