The Benson Center for the Study of Western Civilization at the University of Colorado Boulder explores the culture, languages and ideas of the Western tradition, ranging from antiquity to modern society. Its concern, first and foremost, is with the values that emerge from that tradition, and their ongoing role in the institutions of the United States.
Integral to this mission is the Center’s commitment to fostering research, debate and dialogue on the fundamental issues of our time--moral, political and economic. The Center hosts the Conservative Thought and Policy program and provides a forum for free and open discourse across the university community. Our aim is to promote a lively and balanced conversation that respects both conservative and liberal ideals, thus fostering the full diversity of political, economic and philosophical perspectives on the CU Boulder campus.
Good to see a polarised panel argue things out (in the end ... regarding readings and possible misreadings of Nietzche). It really got down into the weeds and I learned a lot. I thought Shilo's overview particularly brilliant and was impressed by Michael Grenke's riposte to Beiner's provocative takes. The body language of the panel all together was interesting - the awkwardness of people sitting together who hold sharply divided views. I'm glad you didn't shy away from showing that. But where on earth did Michael G get his point about Nietzsche thinking everyone should carry guns from?
A fascinating series of contradictory presentations thank you so much for making them public. My own small comment: if liberal democratic societies are indeed suffering from slackness and addiction to comfort we need not worry, seems to me climate change and many other factors are soon going to make life all over the world much much more difficult, whether we like it or not the bow will be tautened...
Seems like he does what he criticizes here, making a mountain out of a molehill. At 14:10 he calls it a new moral culture but gives no evidence that it's new. The handful of incidents he gives just don't amount too much. The evidence is just lacking here

You’re in your 20s. You’re not 50. I would say you’re not done growing yet (no one ever really is), and it really says more about your dad. But, that said, it’s probably a good time to assert some independence and get some life experience. Don’t feel like you need permission. You’re an adult. Just go do it. Your dad will eventually adjust. That said, I don’t know your town. If it was a slum in Chicago, I’d understand the concern. But don’t make the mistake of selectively allowing your Dad to be sheltering in other situations because of the convenience of it. Get a job, move out, get your own place. Live a little. Have bad shit happen and get over it. Life is sweeter that way.

I think SNS is a great platform for expression of free speech, and its existence if for you to express yourself virtually in a semi-realistic dimension without disturbing others as much as you do outside, say on school campus disturbing others from concentrating on learning or on the roads creating a long line of traffic and possibly stopping ambulances or fire tracks that are too far for protestors to see.

I love Dr. Victor Davis Hanson, but he's wrong about the Third Reich never having a 4-engine bomber. The Germans did develop a heavy bomber, the Heinkel He 177 Greif. It was a 4-engine bomber, where the engines were packed into two nacelles instead of four. This was done to maximize efficiency of parts and lower building costs. Over 1,000 were built. The bomber suffered problems from overheating.
