Hello, Im making my own color shifting watercolor... do you know why if I touch the dried watercolor on paper it fades if Im passing my finger on de paper? All the pigment fade away. Please help I added more binder and also I put less binder but it didn't work :(
Beautiful! Probably best if you change the title to “making” instead of “How to” because there are no instructions, no tools used, no anything….until you see in the comments.
The mica pigments don’t need as much mulling as mineral pigments. However a rub test on white paper helps determine the mulling is enough. After swatching the paint on paper and letting it dry completely , rub over it with a paper towel, if it is clean, the paint is ready
I just bought five of your paints; pink potion, trust me, sweet dream, solar eclipse and fireflies. I wanted to get more but had to hold back haha. Been enjoying your videos, your paints look so beautiful and crafted with love 💖
I watched your videos yesterday.. went out for looking for some gum Arabic.. and made my own paints.. and was awesome. They look incredible.. thanks a lot ❤
@crafterine thank you a lot ❤️ is really kind of you share with us.. here in Brazil, I don't find this shimmering watercolors for buy.. So make them, was very fun and made me happy 😘😘😘
That’s a good question 😊. The best way I do it is by doing a rub test with a tissue paper like on 4:39. After swatching the paint : 1. let it dry completely 2. Take a clean tissue and rub it over the swatch 3. If the pigment or the glitter is found on the tissue, you need more binder. 4. If the tissue is clean, you have enough binder already, like in 5:14 I hope this helps. It’s tricky to have a fixed measure because some pigments need less binder and some need more. So I would suggest you to start adding the binder little by little until you find the right amount 😊
Beautiful...do we only use color shift pigment for these that u have demonstrated..also it would be great if u can put your ingredients on the video so we can jot it down..this demo was amazing 👏..thank u love it .
Thank you very much. I really appreciate your time. I’ll include it in the upcoming videos. You can also checkout the full tutorial of paint making on another video 😃
Yes absolutely! You get readymade liquid gum Arabic too. You don’t need to add water, if the contents have honey, you can skip it too. (It’ll be mentioned in the back label)
I have been "collecting" San Rio stationaries when I was a kid in The Philippines!!! San Rio is an Asian Stationary!!!When I arrived in Belgium, papers are "pretty simple", until now!!! And, when I started Journaling, I'm happy to find Chinese and Japanese Journaling products at Aliexpress or Temu, and JOURNALSAY!!! China, being the "oldest" paper making country, had advanced this! My expectations are high on China, that it beats American and European paper industries, and some products!!!I'm proud for being half Chinese/ half filipino/ half Indian!!!
I can totally relate , I hoard a lot of art stuff too. About the book press, I have linked in the description a video of making it at home, hopefully within a certain budget. I hope it helps. If not, you can always use heavy bricks, books or tiles to press the books. Nothing should stop creatives from creating <3
Hi, Catherine. Thanks for this video - it was really interesting! I scrolled through the comments and found some who said their English wasn't good enough. I checked the subtitle button and it only did Vietnamese, and when I asked for it in English, it was hilarious! Anyway! Here's a solution for anyone with this problem, and I've posted it under those I found: This will help! Click on the box immediately under the video. Scroll right down to the bottom, and click on "Transcript" It will come up next to the video. From there, you can copy and paste into eg Google or DeepL translate to read it in your language. I put their comment into the translator to find out which language was needed for my reply. Your patience with answering some of the comments (eg those who demand, rather than use, "Please can you..?" or who ask for information you gave in the video) is amazing! 🤗
Don't apologise. Thank you so much for this video. I tried buying from overseas and found it to be missing something. Just wasn't what I was looking for. I will give this a go as well since my art is missing out on these lovely colours and mixtures. I love how in depth you are with your findings. I'm not chemistry minded but when someone takes the time like you have to explain how to mix things, I feel that much more confident in trying. I'd rather do it this way than pay for an expensive waste of money and my time. You're a great hero to us artists. Thank you ever so much.
Thank you so much for your kind words. It means the world to me and also gives a lot of purpose to the time I spent in my research and making of this video. There have been times when I wanted to give up but comments like yours encourage me to keep going. That’s exactly why I should thank you 😍❤️
Oh my I love mica pigments! Al types of metallic pigments but I have difficulty finding places to buy them in any quantities that you have. Where do you buy your metallic mica pigments I would really appreciate any help you can help. I love this video it was very inspiring and yes I watch it right to the end. Have a wonderful day. @@b.c.9358Your kind words mean so much to me! I’m happy to share my inspiration here. It means a lot more because I’m also struggling to keep myself motivated while being a stay at home mom, so if I could inspire you, that’s all I need to keep going ❤
@@crafterineI bought some mica! It's about 100 micron size, but it's still very pretty. It glitters more than it shines or shimmers, so I might buy more... 😅
@@crafterineI've started sending my friends postcards with the glittery ink. It's very pretty. Thank you for the inspiration! And I'm actually using my art supplies!!!
What difference does it make if you put one layer in and let it dry, before, filling out the rest of the way up? I don’t understand why you have to do in layers.
As the paints dry in the pans they shrink, however, most times, the top part dries and the paint on the bottom continues to be wet. Alas, in between a huge air pocket gets created. Sometimes while filling pans, air bubbles also get trapped and get bigger as paint dries. Therefore, to fill the pan with paint and without vacant spaces trapped on the inside , we fill them in thin layers and let them dry at each step. Even the biggest paint companies (Daniel Smith, Schminke etc) that sell paints in pans, fill pans in layers so that we get pans packed with paints in them 😍
@@crafterineyeah but why not just push it in with my little finger after it gets dry enough to touch to force the air out? I get it on commercial scale, but why waste space, time and good paint on the sticks, when a good old pressure works well enough? Takes few seconds, no space, so your cat won’t step in it,and your paints are ready to take with you again in up to two days, not in weeks. At this point of bother it’s better and cheaper to just pay extra for the filled pans.
Yes! You can do that too. It took a couple days for me since the humidity was high near my place and also, Schminke paints are honey-based and get sticky to touch. I believe it works out perfect in hardly 2-3 days for other tube paints 😄…. By the way, I am a paint maker and I fill my handmade paints the same way, so it’s now a force of habit for me to fill them this way , and wait a couple days however any way works 🥰
The age old question - should I buy half pans or tube watercolors? If you buy pans you get 2 ml of paint while getting tubes you get 5 ml paint. But is it though ? This video demonstrates how much you really get from tube paints from a well known artist-grade brand Schminke. Being a paintmaker myself, I show you exactly how to fill paints in the pans in the most efficient way (without air bubbles in them). Let’s face it, after your pans are over, you’ll end up buying tube paints to refill them anyway ❤
