I have tried to answer a couple of questions regarding Color-shifting Watercolors in this video. I bought these pigments for the first time and tried them out here. The pigments turned out to be super vibrant and very opaque on the white/black paper too. Feel free to post your questions below.
I have been making metallic watercolors for a while. However, I received couple of requests on a video for the making of these paints. Below is the link to a video where, It would help you with the ingredients, tools you can use, simple pointers to watch out for and have fun making your favorite watercolors.

This was a very interesting presentation, but you left out so much. Granted you gave me new ideas. I wish you had spent a little more time on your thinking about combining the shimmer with the hupershift. The hyper-shifters are so amazingly expensive! I'm experimenting with adding phase shift powder to my less expensive camelion shifters in hopes of increasing vibrancy.

Fun video and gorgeous colors 😍, where do you recommend buying such pigments to experiment? And as far as binder goes, do you also use Gum Arabic and glycerine? For a beginner it is hard tp figure out what ratio (recipe) to use. Btw I liked a few of your paint making videos, thank you! 🎨

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it. It does take a while to catch hold of suppliers of pigments. However, i figured that Amazon and eBay do have mica pigments being sold. If you're starting out, i can recommend one of my other paint making videos where I make a bronze color with the right ratios that worked for me. I hope you find that useful :)

Thank you so much! I'm new to making watercolors. I'm curious, have you tried adding non-iridescent whites to other pigments to make them more opaque or visible on black paper? Or maybe pearlescent whites? I purchased some great and shiney pigments but I'm disappointed that they don't seem to show up on black paper as brightly as the paints I've previously purchased premade.

It would have been great to see you swatch the colors at the end. Especially because you said you were doing 2 experiments, one was a smaller micron and the other was the added, iridescence color shift powder. So you should have showed us if it turned out. You could have done a comparison with your old batch with the larger micron and this new one side by side, so we could see the difference too. Same with the added powder, show us normal chameleon paint, against this new one. We would like to learn what it does too. Now I feel like I didnt learn anything, and I'm left with more questions than I started with. And all I got to do was watch you stir pretty paint .. 😔 Thanks for sharing..

@@crafterine Thank you for replying, it's 4 months later but I guess its better than never. I did go and swatch video you attached, and in all honesty they just look like chameleon water paints. I think if you would have shown the purple, blue one dry and different angles, we would have been able to see what the added color shift you added, did to it. Personally I don't think its a proper, here's the outcome video. 😪 Thanks for showing it to me anyways.

Hi crafterine, 3 months ago I made watercolor paints, sticking to your videos. I would like to ask if you know what could be the reason why they are still soft and sticky. I live in Denmark but no matter how humid it is, isn't that a long time to dry? Thanks!

hey , my paints gets hard once they dry in pans and takes more time to get activate I'm confuse what to add and what to not ? should i add more gum arabic powder?
@crafterine
@crafterine 2 года назад
Hardness of the paint might be higher if you have more gum arabic than required. To give the paints less activation time, I would add honey/glycerine to it. If you're working with mineral pigments, you can always try oxgall too

Is honey better than Glycerine with metallic and colour shift pigments. I notice they seemed less grainy than the matte colours?
@crafterine
@crafterine 11 месяцев назад
In this video, I’m using a pigment which is really really tiny. Like 5-10 micrometers. So it turns into super fine paints without grains. I feel honey makes the paint smoother so I do use it, but I also use glycerin in my binder too 😃
